From the Desk of
The Superintendent
Welcome Back!
It is my pleasure to welcome the
students, faculty and staff that will be
returning for another school year at
Robstown ISD. I hope that your summer
was restful, as we will be starting the
year in full force to begin
accomplishing many great things
during the upcoming year.
Our District slogan “Moving Forward”
has a special meaning for all school
personnel. We will hold true to the
commitment to guarantee that our
students have the knowledge and skills
they need to ensure future success. This
benefits our community, as well as the
students themselves.

Texas Law grants the Board of
Trustees the power to govern and
oversee the management of the
District’s schools. The Board is
the policy-making body within the
District and has overall
responsibility for the curriculum,
school taxes and annual budget.
Trustees are elected at-large and
serve four year terms. Trustees
serve without compensation, must
be registered voters, and must
reside in the District.
Sylvia I. Romero is the new principal of San Pedro Elementary. Her
heart runs deep in the community, as he was born, raised, and
educated at RISD. Mrs. Romero has invested her professional career
with the District, she’s served as Director of Spec. Programs, Principal at
Driscoll Elementary and Director of Federal Programs. Her passion for
serving students has run full circle, as she started as a teacher 33 years
ago.
Lorena Ceballos is delighted to serve as Principal of Robstown High
School, and brings over 19 years of experience in education, teaching
math at the elementary and junior high levels. As a native of Los Fresnos,
TX, she relocated to the Corpus Christi area in 2010. In 2012 she was
Asst. Principal for Instruction at the High School in Robstown. She then
became the Secondary & Elementary Curriculum Director. Mrs. Ceballos
is looking forward to helping students become College and Career ready.

Please be sure to review the school bell schedules, arranged by campus. On Wednesdays, class days for students will be shorter, due to teacher PLC’s, or professional learning community time. This allows teachers to collaborate together and plan for departmental development.
Emergency Preparedness Guidelines
In case of an emergency or
dangerous weather condition, it
is vital to know where to look
for the most updated
information regarding revised
school start times, school
closures or weather alerts. The
District will make every effort to
keep parents, students and
staff informed in the event that
this may occur. The first
method of communication will
be through SchoolReach, a
telephone broadcast system
that enables school personnel
to notify all households and
parents by phone whenever
there is an emergency or
unplanned event. This is also
used to communicate general
announcements and reminders.
Additionally, parents should
look on Robstown ISD’s
website District homepage for
the latest information, at
www.robstownisd.org.

Robstown ISD and All Campuses Meet
Accountability Standards
Bus Routes
Robstown ISD takes great pride in announcing that all eight campuses have met the accountability standards set
forth by the Texas Education Agency. Every campus received the “Met Standard’ mark, indicating the highest
achievement level and acknowledgement of meeting targets on all indexes for performance data. The four
Performance indexes include a set of measures that provide a comprehensive evaluation of districts and
campuses that include: Student Achievement, Student Progress, Closing Performance Gaps, and Postsecondary
Readiness.
The District, as a whole, also met standard, which was due in large part to the students doing well on the STAAR test at every campus.
The scores revealed substantial growth from 2014, which illustrates academic improvement. This is without a doubt, a high
achievement that all students, parents, teachers, and all district personnel should be extremely proud of. To say ‘hard work pays off’ is
cliché, but we truly feel that our students are real examples of this. Congratulations on a job well done! We are looking forward to yet
another year of success across all campuses. The results are as follows:
The following campuses received Distinction in specialized areas:
Lotspeich Elementary School: Reading ELA, Closing Performance Gaps, and Postsecondary Readiness
Seale Junior High: Mathematics

Robstown High School Construction Update
If you have recently visited the High School campus, one
might have taken note of the demolition and construction that
has taken place over the last year. The District is pleased to
report that construction is moving along at a steady pace at the
High School. Due to inclement weather in April and May, there
were some setbacks on the timeline. However, over the summer
Texas Descon, the South Texas commercial construction
company contracted with the District specializing in educational
projects, has been very busy making improvements in large
capacities. Superintendent Dr. Maria Vidaurri expressed her
“excitement to be back on schedule and the District is ready and
eager to provide our students with the best educational
facilities.”
According to Chris Stark, the Superintendent of the project,
the demolition and cleanup of the old library and special
education office will be completed before the first day of
instruction.
Currently, beams are being installed at the site that will house
many state of the art facilities for the students of Robstown High
School that are designed to enhance learning. This includes: a
culinary arts classroom, life skills room, applied music room,
choir room, two flexible learning centers, four computer labs, two
conference rooms, a media center, intervention office, two men
and women’s restrooms, a small group study room, storage and
mechanical rooms, a new library, an agricultural barn, and eight
additional classrooms.
The Director of Maintenance, Leeroy Gonzalez and Campus
Principal, Lorena Ceballos, are scheduled to conduct
walkthroughs of the construction site to determine routes and
locate all ways of exit for the students to follow. Students will be
provided with this detailed information on the first day of school.

New School Year Brings New Uniforms
for the Band
The Robstown High School
Band has been celebrating, as
the students received word
from their Head Band Director,
Michael Doster, that the
Robstown Board of Trustees
approved funding for the
purchase of new uniforms.
As described by Doster, the
current uniforms that the
students have been wearing
were at least ten years old, and
endured a vast amount of wear
and tear.
The prototype presented to the
Trustees was well received, with
‘Robstown’ proudly embossed
on the front of the uniform in red.
The Board approved a final
dollar amount of $87,359 to
purchase 200 uniforms, which
will include two pairs of pants, a
jacket, headgear, cuffs, and a
garment bag. According to
Doster, “The new uniforms mean
a lot to the band. We work really
hard to perform well and make
our community proud. We are
truly grateful that the
Administration and the School
Board support our efforts.”
Be sure to check out the
new uniforms at the first
football game of the year.
“We work really hard to
perform well and make
our community proud.”

2015-2016 Academic Calendar
Back to School Rally
Set for August 21st Join Robstown ISD on Friday, August 21st as we plan for our 3rd annual Back to School Rally.
The District strongly feels that students should be provided with a backpack, along with the
essential school supplies needed to achieve educational success. Our hope is that it will foster
a positive attitude among our children, and shape their perspective to create excitement for a
new school year. Local families can bring their children to the rally from 5:30PM– 6:30PM at
the High School football stadium. The first 500 guests will receive a backpack, there will be one
backpack given per student, and they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while
supplies last. Since 2013, Robstown ISD has donated 1,000 backpacks to children, district-
wide.

2015-2016 Immunization Requirements
The 2015-2016 Texas Minimum State Vaccine Requirements for Students Grades K-12 have been released and can be found
below. As legislatively-mandated by §97.63 of the Texas Administrative Code (TAC), the immunization requirements for Texas
students have been updated. The vaccinations are required for all students for the upcoming school year.
As another year starts, it is important to be present for each day of instruction. Attendance
ensures that students don’t miss anything in the classroom. To prevent absences, below
are some frequently asked questions in regards to staying healthy throughout the year,
some guidelines for preventing the spread of germs, and medication administration.
If my child needs medication
during school hours, how is
this taken care of?
Health services is happy to assist students
who need medications at school, and
request that all medications be brought to
school by a parent, guardian or designated
adult – not a child for reasons of safety.
The parent/guardian must sign “Parent’s
Permission to Administer” form and the
prescribing physician must complete
“Medical Report”. Both forms must be
completed before any medication can be
administered at school. Please note Texas
state law & RISD policy does not permit
public schools to provide over-the-counter
medications to students.
How do illnesses spread
among school children?
Schools inherently foster the
transmission of infection from
person to person because they are
in a school setting in which they are
in close contact and share supplies
and equipment.
What’s the best way to help
my child prevent picking up
an illness at school?
Frequent hand-washing is the most
effective way to stay healthy in school.
It’s important to teach children to wash
their hands before eating, after playing
outside and using the restroom. If
parents can enforce that at home,
we’ll reinforce it at school.
Additionally:
Can I send my child to
school if he/she’s not feeling
well?
Please do not send your child to school
if any of the following symptoms or
signs are present in the previous twenty
four hours:
-Cover mouth &
nose with a tissue
when coughing or
sneezing. Or use
the crook of their
elbow.
-Use hand sanitizer
-Keep your hands
away from your
eyes mouth
-Don’t share water
bottles, food or
other personal
items.
-Eat a healthy diet
get plenty of sleep,
