Message from the Head of School
“Praise Him for His mighty deeds; praise Him according to His excellent greatness!” Psalm 150:2
Wow! Someone needs to pinch me to make sure I’m not dreaming! This first week of school has been filled with smiles, hugs, and sweet songs of praise in hymn study and chapel. All of our staff have at least one year CCS experience and opened the school year confident in their relationships with our precious students. Teachers have had time to reflect and plan over the summer and are excited about seeing God’s faithfulness in growing our students in character, academ-ics, and most of all dependence on our Lord Jesus Christ. In addition, we are absolutely energized by our new families and the unique gifts they bring to CCS. Our new CCS students are surrounded by so many friends! We are especially praising God for bringing us new high school students who are joining the others as Christian role models and leaders of our student body. Many thanks to all who have covered our school in prayer. I shouldn’t be surprised that this is not the “typical first week of school” because this is not the “typical” school. We are off to a spirit-filled start and truly feel God’s blessing on our precious school. To Him be the glory. In Christ, Christine

Enrichment Day September 28
Forms 4 and Up
On Friday, September 28, grades 4 and up will again be visiting Carter
Mountain Orchard for their fall enrichment opportunity. This was a
favorite last year and we are all excited to visit the beautiful
orchard again.
The cost of the field trip will be $10 per student. This fee includes a
small pumpkin, a donut and cider snack, apple school class, a
hayride and, of course, a bag of apples!
Accompanying family members
over age 2 will also need to pay the $10 fee. If you would like to visit
Carter Mountain Orchard as a family and have students in forms
1-3, the younger children are welcome to join you on the trip.
We will need volunteer drivers for this enrichment activity! Please
contact the office as soon as possible if you are able to drive to Charlottesville on September 28, and remember to be working on
your Volunteer Driver Application Packet!
More details on this trip, and
information about a local field trip for Forms 1 through 3 on Septem-ber 28 will be coming home in the
next week. Be on the lookout!
Form IV gets acquainted with Mrs. Chidzero on the first day of school.
Form IV I am excited about how our year has started! We are off to a great year and looking forward to many exciting adventures. Since our Form IV students are still young, I am asking you to pack a small snack for them which they can eat when we have a short morning break. Keep in mind that no peanut or tree nut products are allowed in our classroom, however.
In Math class we are continuing with multiplication and division. We are learning about plants and plant cells during Science. In Bible we are covering the book of 1 Samuel. The children are studying “The Middle Ages” in History and we have already started on writing using “key words” and learning the parts of speech.
Thank you for entrusting your children to us. We love and treasure them!
Intro to Spanish: This week we picked Spanish names and learned to ask each others’ names using a fun activity called ¿cómo te llamas? The students had to find their Spanish name cards by asking other students their name and stating their own in the target language. We started Lesson 1 of our Viajes curriculum: La transportacion. The students learned vocabulary that they would need in order to travel in a Latin country! I look forward to next week with this sweet group of students!
Middle and High School Spanish I: We had a wonderful first week in Spanish class! Students picked Spanish names and jumped right into learning how to greet each other and ask where their classmates are from! Challenge your student to communicate greetings with you! Next week I will be assigning Duolingo homework. Students should sign up over the weekend if they haven't yet. I look forward to next week!
Spanish II: In Spanish 2 we jumped right into speaking about what we did this summer in the target language learning past tense! Students wrote a short narrative about themselves and their classmate's summer with a twist! We also began the storytelling of a king 100% in the target language. I look forward to hearing the students speak in Spanish this year!
Middle and High School (cont.) Form V Bible: Bible students this week got to know each other! We began our prayer partner routine that will be weekly. My prayer is that you find your student checking in with a classmate once during the week on his/her prayer request. We ended the week by beginning our first book "Why Pray?" by John Devries. Students were assigned to finish the reading this week and answer a couple questions to reflect on.
Form V Language Arts, Literature, History: We've had a great start to our new school year! Students have been refreshed on our methodology and practiced various forms of narrations, copywork, and dictation. Our literature class researched the culture and history for the setting of our story, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, and discovered the influence and control King James II had over the Conneticut Colony in 1687. We're looking forward to reading our novel next week and getting familiar with the life of Kit Taylor
Form VI Bible and Literature: Our high schoolers began the new school year with enthusiasm and excitement! We started our study of the Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures, and discovered that various forms of writing styles were used to communicate the "big story" of the Israelites. Our literature class began our study of Ancient Egypt by researching Egyptian gods and learning how these gods shaped Egyptian culture. We're looking forward to reading our novel next week and stepping inside the life a young, Egyptian slave named Mara.

CCS High School Students Prepare to
Explore God!
Join the conversation with others who have questions about God!
Covenant Christian School invites families to join our high school student Explore God discussion group. Participants will openly discuss their questions about God, suffering, the Bible and more in a seven-week Explore God series beginning Thursday, September 20th from 8:10 - 9:00 a.m. There is no cost to attend. This Explore God series, entitled ‘The 7 Big Questions,’ focuses on having honest discussions about some of the common spiritual questions everyone has. These questions are: • Does life have a purpose? • Is there a God? • Why does God allow pain and suffer-ing? • Is Christianity too narrow? • Is Jesus really God? • Is the Bible reliable? • Can I know God personally? If you would like to be a part of this discussion group, please RSVP to [email protected] by Friday, September 14th.
