the cowshed sits between an old farm-house and more modern agricultural sheds. the proposal looked to form a more cohesive union of the three buildings by re-establishing a farm yard which would unite the three structures.

the walls of the cowshed are largely retained with a new lightweight timber structure above. one corner of the old structure is removed to form the new entrance hall with sliding windows opening out onto the new yard and a stair up to the first floor accommodation. the double height space opens into one large room at first floor which contains the kitchen, dining and living areas.

the ground floor plan is split into 4 quarters, one contains the entrance hall, the other three contain bedrooms with the bath-rooms contained within smaller timber framed structures that attach themselves to the main building.

externally the stone base is left ‘as is’ and the new timber structure is left exposed with vertical sections to the gable ends dividing the large openings into a series of a tall slot windows.
