University of Glasgow, Scotland, UKJuly 18th - 23rd 2005

This is a preliminary announcement that TheSixth International Crustacean Congress willtake place at the University of Glasgow,Scotland UK in July 2005.

The conference is organised on behalf of TheCrustacean Society by The Institute ofBiomedical and Life Sciences, University ofGlasgow.

The Meeting will also host the Vth EuropeanCrustacean Conference – ECC5 – and the 2005Summer Meeting of the Crustacean Society.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME

The Meeting will comprise daily PlenaryLectures, followed by a number of parallelsessions on different themes. In addition,poster sessions will be organised, with authorsin attendance. At present these themes areopen, but could include all disciplines and allgroups of crustaceans.

One purpose of this announcement is to inviteproposals for these themes from interestedorganisers.

LANGUAGE

The Congress language will be English.

VENUE

Glasgow is Scotland's largest city and issurrounded by some of the most breathtakingscenery in Western Europe, made famousdown the years in verse and song. Today, thecity has emerged as the cultural, commercialand convention capital of Scotland.With award winning museums, fabulousshopping and restaurants that allow you toeat in a different country every night, it hasbecome the number one tourist destination inScotland.

Here you will find a mixture of the GreatIndoors and the Great Outdoors to suit everytaste. Live theatre, a packed concertprogramme, international sporting events,pop festivals, arts festivals, shopping festivals- from international designer houses tosouvenir shops.

The Congress will be held in the Gilmorehillbuilding of the University of Glasgow, whichis one of the most impressive academic venuesin the UK for conferences. Located in the heartof the bustling West End of the city, theuniversity is only 2 miles from the City Centreand 8 miles from Glasgow Airport. The neo-Gothic 19th century campus is set in beautiful,breathtaking surroundings and is one of thecity's greatest icons. The Bute Hall will beused for plenary lectures, and up to fiveadjacent lecture theatres around thequadrangle will be available for breakoutsessions. Direct access isprovided to 11 European cities, 6 transatlanticdestinations, and there are approximately 44return flights on the London route per day.Travel time from London airports isapproximately 1 hour.Glasgow International Airport is only 11 kmfrom the city centre, and transfers can bemade by Express Coach or Taxi (journey time10 minutes).
