In the meantime… RecentWinners–ClubChampionshipNineofourbestgolfersstartedthisyear’sClubChampionshiponSeptember12th.Weplayitasafourdayaffairovertwoweekendsfromtheblueteeswithoutbenefitofhandicap.It’sasterntestdesignedtofindthebestgolferintheclub.Onlyfiveoftheentrantssawitthroughtotheend,whichisalittledisappointing.MattCrichtoncamefrombehindtosecureafivestrokevictoryoverJimGrandcolasandGregBuhagiar.Matthasonlystartedplayingtournamentswithourclubthisyear,andIassumehe’senjoyingitashisrecordtodateisarathergaudyplayedfour,wonfour,includingthis,thebiggesttournamentwehave.Therunnersup,i.e.everyonenotnamedCrichton,foundthemselvesinaconsolationnetevent,wherewefactorineveryone’shandicapanddeclareawinnerbasedonnetscore.Itdoesn’thavethecachetofbeingclubchampion,butit’snotabadconsolation.Selfconfessedchoker,TomO’Connor,wonthenet.
