Car CPR Course Information Want to ensure your ride has a long life, saves you money, travels safely and stays ahead of repairs? This class does all that plus gives you the knowledge you need to be independent on the road. How to change a tire safely, check your oil and fluids, and other basic topics are covered with hands- on participation. Even if you don’t know a steering wheel from a flywheel you’ll feel comfortable attending this course. Defensive Driving Course Information Drivers who have penalty points against their records can have up to four points removed upon successful completion of this National Safety Council course. Depending on your insurance carrier, a discount may be available. You must register in advance and be on time. Any person who drives a motor vehicle when his or her license is cancelled, suspended or revoked is in violation of S.C. Statute 56-1-460 and is subject to arrest; this includes driving to and from TTC campuses. Verify before enrolling (at www.scdmvonline. com) if you have a penalty points balance on your driving record for the credited points to be applied. Note: This is not a course for ADSAP substance violations. Book included. Motorcycle Safety Course Information Student riders are required to bring the following riding gear items to class: above the ankle shoes, long pants, long-sleeve jacket or shirt, full-fingered gloves, eye protection (which can be normal glasses) and a full face coverage DOT-approved motorcycle helmet. If you do not have your own helmet, we may be able to provide one for your use. Motorcycle Basic Rider (BRC) This course is for both the inexperienced rider, or for a rider needing the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Certification and teaches the basic techniques of safely riding a motorcycle. The course meets SC law for qualifying a student for an insurance discount. Students must pass both a written and riding assessment to receive the MSF card. Training bikes are provided; however, street legal, registered and insured personal bikes are permitted for use in the course. Students with a learner’s permit who successfully complete this course are eligible for a license waiver. Weekend course includes classroom training on Friday evenings and practical application riding on Saturday and Sunday; class riding time may vary due to weather conditions and level of enrollment. Weekday course is a special program that allows private citizens to enjoy BRC classes utilizing the Naval Weapons Station riding range. It’s a great partnership with Joint Base Charleston. Prerequisite: Basic Rider enrollees must be eligible for a driver’s license and able to ride a bicycle. Books included. Motorcycle Experienced Rider (BRC2) This course is for the experienced rider who wants a refresher and updated safety information as well as an opportunity to earn a license waiver. Bring your own street-ready and insured bike and at least a learner’s permit. Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair This course is for the rider who wants to add years to his or her bike and keep it trouble-free while saving a lot of money on repairs. A top-notch mechanic teaches tips and techniques. Truck Driver Training CDL-A Information This program helps you get your career in the right gear by teaching you the regulations, proper record keeping, vital industry information and other pertinent subjects that relate to the safety and legal operation of tractor trailers. You are trained for 50 hours in the class and 110-130 hours hands-on in the working environment that you encounter as a truck driver. This includes vehicle inspection, slow maneuvers such as backing, parallel parking and turns. Also, you are trained behind the wheel on the road on rural, four-lane, interstates and in-city driving for an average of 50 hours in the truck for a class of four students. This course is designed to provide the training to get you on the right road to success in the fastest growing industry in the nation. All training is held locally in the Charleston area. To enroll, you must call Florence-Darlington Technical College at 843.413.2715; sign-up is not available through the TTC registration office or online. Funding opportunities are available via SC Works, VA and more.
