When you hear someone say the word “dentist”, what comes first to your mind? Yes, an oral health provider that treat your teeth and other oral problem. But, did you know that there is another oral health provider
that specializes in taking care of your teeth gums and overall oral condition? It is not just a dentist that solely takes care of your teeth, there are some others that are called to be involved in a much deeper
problem in your teeth and gums and here are some of those specialists;

General Dentist – they are the one that takes care of your overall oral health, he provides your dental care and the one you go to when you
have a problem in your teeth, gums, and mouth. He specializes in giving your gum the care it needs and sees to it that every intensive
oral procedure is done correctly. He does root canals, crowns, fillings, veneers, bridges and gives preventive education. DDS or DMD degree
is needed before they are allowed to practice and must pass the licensure exam that the state is giving to the aspiring dentist. A sure, safe and educated dentist is the one that takes care of your oral health
and the primary dental care provider.

Dental Public Health Clinic – they promote dental health through organized efforts of the community. They educate the public with
group dental care programs and have a goal of controlling and preventing dental disease on a community-wide basis. They also
provide information and services like the development of dental care programs in schools, where to find the nearest dentist, gives
information regarding fluoridation for the community and provides other health support materials and resources for their community.

Endodontist – as the one specializes in the causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases or injuries of the nerve of the tooth or the human dental pulp, he may perform a simple or difficult root canal
treatments and other type of surgical root procedures. The dentist that asked for the help an endodontist requires a more thorough study of his
patient’s dental pulp.

Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist – is the one that specializes in taking and interpreting all types of X-ray images and any data that are used in
diagnosing and managing any type of disorders, diseases and conditions of oral and maxillofacial region.
Oral medicine – is the specialization of dentistry that provides care for the medically complex patient by the integration of oral health care and
medicine, it evaluates the complex medical patients that are prior to the open heart surgery, cancer therapy and chemotherapy and the hospital
inpatients.
