FROM THE DIRECTOR’S CHAIR
Mark Maron
July 2012,
Let’s start by saying Happy 4th of July to all of you.
By the time you get this we are ready for our Parades.. We are STILL SHORT CARS. PLEASE step up and help John Dregenberg and your club with this great MARC event. It is fun and there is a great feeling seeing everyone wav-ing and cheering our cars on, not to mention the promotion for our club and hobby.
Well Lil’ Val and I have just returned home from the OSHKOSH MARC Na-tional event and WOW, WOW, WOW, what an incredible time!! There were over 500 members in attendance and over 350 cars there. It was a great site and being at the EAA in Oshkosh was a treat in itself. Much applause goes out to the Nickle A’s for hosting a great event.
More important is congratulations go out to Joe Schutz and a score of 459 points and a MARC of Excellence award on his 1929 Boyer Fire truck. This was a sight to behold, without a doubt it had to be the most photographed vehicle at the meet. It was an excellent restoration and a sight to see, not to mention the fun while riding in it and spinning the siren.
Next we congratulate John and Marilyn Krenger with a score of 469 Points and MARC of Excellence in their 1930 Deluxe Phaeton. Stunning is a word that does not even come close to the beauty of this classic automobile! It is truly a beautiful car and something to see in person.
Both vehicles were restored at Ken & Helen’s garage by a great team headed by Ken and Ron that worked hard to bring them back to their beauty. This is what this hobby is all about, people coming together to achieve the same goal.
I encourage all of you to see these wonderful cars.
The Ken Brady award is the highest achievement one can receive from MARC. The award is given in memory of Kenneth G. Brady “who gave unsparingly of his time and energy to the Model "A" Restorer's Club.” The Kenneth G. Brady Award is presented each year to the person(s) who has given unsparingly of their time and energy to the Model "A" Restorer's Club national organization.
We congratulate and honor our own MARILYN KRENGER for re-ceiving the 2012 Ken Brady award… This is a wonderful achievement and I am proud to announce this!
PICNIC, PICNIC. PICNIC, it’s that time again for fun in the sun with our Model A Fords. Did you send in your response already? PLEASE do so NOW! Our picnic again will be at Sanctuary Farms, with our Hosts John and Mari-lyn Krenger, this year we have brats, dogs, burgers, corn and more and a spe-cial Soft Serve Ice Cream machine for all to enjoy, bring your cars and your swim suits, and don’t forget the “DIME” game and that GREAT CORN were having! Please see big Val or myself for any questions, and get your forms in immediately. Illinois Region Members are Free of course; there is a small fee for grandchildren over 12 and guests. We have also invited the FOX Valley Region MARC to join us for all the effort they put in to assist us with our swap.
We have a busy summer ahead of us with some great events, please see Jim Patterson for any information and check your calendars.
Lets make it a great touring season and be safe out there! Thanks for your support for a great hobby and a great club!
