OUTLOOKThe
Official Publication of The Dominion HOA
HOA Partners with Peel, Inc.The HOA Board has agreed to supply
Peel, Inc., the publisher of the Dominion Outlook Newsletter with our monthly HOA newsletter. The inclusion of the HOA newsletter in Outlook will help increase readership and provide another source that enables our homeowners to stay abreast of HOA information. Of course, those homeowners that have registered their email address with the HOA will continue to receive the newsletter monthly via email and all homeowners can utilize the Dominion HOA Web site to access the newsletter and much other information regarding the HOA. If anyone needs help, including password set up, for access to the website, please call the HOA office.
WildfiresMost of us are very much aware of the rash of Texas wildfires in the past month. Very
close to home was the wildfire at Camp Bullis which fortunately was eventually controlled before it had a chance to jump Ralph Fair Road and become a huge problem. Many of our homeowners did not know that the Dominion was within 30 minutes of a mandatory evacuation by the San Antonio Fire Dept. This should cause all of us to reflect on our plans if such an evacuation is ever mandated for whatever reason. Families need to be prepared with a plan on where to go, what to bring, storage of essential and valuable articles, possible insurance riders for wildfire protection on our homes, emergency contact number, etc. We certainly hope that this event will never occur, but being prepared is essential. For more information please access these important links: www.ready.gov; www.sanantonio.gov;www.fema.gov
Fire Hydrant Flow ProjectAs we have discussed over the past year, SAWS has taken up the project of resolving certain
areas within the Dominion where the water flow rate in our fire hydrants is less than the Fire Marshall requests for fighting large home fires. This concern impacts approximately 135 Dominion homes. Recently, SAWS has sent a Right of Entry form to approximately 17 homeowners in order to allow SAWS to survey their lots as part of the fix to this problem. Resolution of the problem will involve trenching on some of our streets as well as possible work on the surveyed lots. SAWS’s plans include adding additional water main lines, increasing the pipe size of some others and eliminating all dead end water mains by looping them back into the Dominion infrastructure. This will be a multi year project that is only in the planning/engineering phase at the moment. Once all of the Right of Entry forms are signed, SAWS will complete their survey work and issue a final engineering plan. The HOA office will stay involved with this very important project for our community until it is completed. If you are a homeowner that has received a Right of Entry Form and have not talked to SAWS or the HOA office, then please contact the office as soon as possible.

SafetyWe talk about this in just about every Newsletter, but its importance
can’t be minimized. We need to establish a stronger culture within the Dominion for traffic safety. All of us can help establish that safety culture by example when we are driving the streets of the Dominion. There continues to be way too many cars traveling well in excess of the posted speed limits. In some situations, cars are traveling past the digital speed display with no attempt to slow down which demonstrates a lack of responsibility to fellow homeowners. Lets all try to work on this issue to avoid more strenuous efforts by Dominion Security to enforce this very important safety issue. Please slow down.
Landscape/IrrigationThe Landscape Task Force and Development Committee are in the final
stages on recommending a contractor and equipment manufacturer for Test Sites 1 thru 5 for new irrigation controllers and landscape redesign for Test Site 1(Dominion main entrance). In addition, the Landscape Task Force is in the final stages on recommending a Master Landscape Work Plan for refurbishing the Dominion landscape infrastructure over the next several years. Once the plan is priced out, the HOA Board will then have to assess the capital reserves required for both the landscape and irrigation infrastructure improvements.

POSTMENOPAUSAL BLEEDING COULD BESIGN OF ENDOMETRIAL CANCER
After a woman goes through menopause, it is not normal for her to start bleeding again, said a gynecologic oncologist at Baylor College of Medicine. Most postmenopausal bleeding is caused by the thinning of the cervix; however, in some cases bleeding is a sign of endometrial cancer and should not be ignored, said Dr. Concepcion R. Diaz-Arrastia, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at BCM. When caught in the early stages, endometrial cancer can be cured, Diaz-Arrastia said. However, there are few symptoms and no screening methods and often isn’t found until later stages. That’s why it is so important for women to be conscious of things that may be associated with the disease, like bleeding.
Endometrial cancer is the most common uterine cancer. It occurs in the endometrium or the lining of the uterus. More than 40,000 women are diagnosed with endometrial cancer every year in the United States. Women who are obese and/or have a history of irregular menstrual cycles have an increased chance of developing endometrial cancer, Diaz-Arrastia said. If you notice postmenopausal bleeding, contact your gynecologist and set up an appointment as soon as possible.
SYMPTOMS POINT TO DIABETESMaintaining a healthy weight, eating a low-fat diet and exercising regularly can help prevent the onset of diabetes and the many side
affects of the disease, according to doctors at Baylor College of Medicine. Those with a higher risk of diabetes should also have
their blood glucose levels screened regularly.RISK FACTORS FOR DIABETES INCLUDE:
• Obesity• Sedentary lifestyle• Unhealthy eating habits• Family history and genetics• Increased age• High blood pressure and high cholesterol
A fasting glucose level of 70 to 100 mg/dL is considered normal, 100-125 mg/dL is considered pre-diabetes condition and 126 mg/dL or above indicates type 2 diabetes.
SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES INCLUDE:• Frequent urination• Excessive thirst• Increased hunger• Weight loss• Fatigue• Lack of interest and concentration• Blurred vision• Vomiting and stomach pain

You’ve been looking forward to Thanksgiving dinner all year — turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Mmm-mmm! But after you finish that second helping of turkey with gravy, you start to feel a little sleepy.
As your Uncle George starts to explain why eating turkey makes people so tired, you suddenly feel like curling up in front of the TV and napping until next Thanksgiving. But is gobbling up all that turkey really to blame?THE USUAL SUSPECT: L-TRYPTOPHAN
Not exactly. Here’s why: Turkey meat contains a lot of an amino acid called L-tryptophan (say: el-trip-teh-fan). Amino acids are the “building blocks” for the proteins that make up our muscles and other important parts of our bodies. (L-tryptophan is just one kind of amino acid — there are many different kinds of amino acids in the foods we eat.)
When we eat foods that contain L-tryptophan, this amino acid travels in the blood from the digestive system and later enters the brain. The brain then changes the L-tryptophan into another chemical called serotonin (say: sare-uh-toh-nin). Serotonin calms us down and helps us sleep.
But scientists now know that L-tryptophan can really only make a person tired right away if it is eaten or taken by itself without any amino acids. And the protein in turkey contains plenty of other amino acids!
BLAME IT ON BLOOD FLOWMost scientists think that there’s a different
reason why eating a special meal might make you drowsy. Eating a big Thanksgiving dinner causes increased blood flow to the stomach (needed to help digest the meal) and less blood flow to the brain.AVOIDING DROWSINESS
So just how do you avoid that sleepy feeling on Turkey Day?• Eatsmall, healthymeals(trytolimitjunkfoods)
throughout the day before you sit down for your big meal — don't starve yourself in anticipation of the feast to come.
• Havesmallportionsof foodsthatarepartofyour Thanksgiving meal (including whatever veggies are on the table).
• Drinkwaterandtakebreakswhileyouareeatingto see how full you've become.
• Stopeatingonceyou'refull—therewillalwaysbe leftovers tomorrow.
