    The Doors were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, with vocalist Jim

    Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manarek, g!itarist Robby "rieger  and dr!mmer John #ensmore$

    %he band got its name from the title of Aldo!s &!'ley(s book The Doors of Perception,)5* which

    itself was a reference to a +!ote made by illiam -lake, ./f the doors of 0erce0tion were

    cleansed, everything wo!ld a00ear to man as it is, infinite$. )6* %hey were !ni+!e and among the

    most controversial and infl!ential rock acts of the 196s, mostly beca!se of Morrison(s lyrics

    and charismatic b!t !n0redictable stage 0ersona$ After Morrison(s death in 1921 at age 32, the

    remaining members contin!ed as a trio !ntil disbanding in 1924$ )2*

    igning with lektra Records in 1966, the #oors released eight alb!ms between 1962 and

    1921$ All b!t one hit the %o0 1 on theBillboard  3 and went 0latin!m or better$ %heir  self7titled

    deb!t alb!m 81962 was their first in a series of %o0 1 alb!ms in the :nited tates, followed

    by Strange Days 8also 1962, Waiting for the Sun 8196;, The Soft Parade 81969, Morrison

     After Morrison(s death in 1921, the s!rviving trio released two alb!ms !ther "oices and #ull

    $ircle with Manarek and "rieger sharing lead vocals$ %he three members also collaborated on

    the s0oken word recording of Morrison(s  An Aerican Prayer  in 192; and on the .range

    Bo!nty !ite. for a 1992 bo'ed set$ Manarek, "rieger and #ensmore re!nited in 3 for an

    e0isode of C&1(s .torytellers. and s!bse+!ently recorded Stoned %aculate& The Music of

    The Doors with a variety of vocalists$

     Altho!gh the #oors( active career ended in 1924, their 0o0!larity has 0ersisted$ According to

    the R/AA, they have sold 44 million certified !nits in the :)1* and over 1 million records

    worldwide,)11* making them one of the best7selling bands of all time$)13* %he #oors have been

    listed as one of the greatest artists of all time by many magaines, incl!ding 'olling Stone,

    Morrison had been making o!t with a girl fan backstage in a bathroom shower stall 0rior to the

    start of the concert when a 0olice officer ha00ened !0on them$ :naware that he was the lead

    singer of the band abo!t to 0erform, the officer told Morrison and the girl to leave, to which
