*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. People: Sing to the Lord, bless God’s name; tell of God’s salvation from day to day. Leader: Declare God’s glory among the nations, God’s marvelous works among all the peoples. People: For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; God is to be revered above all Gods. For all the gods of the people are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Leader: Let us worship God, who creates, redeems and sustains us. Amen. - Psalm 96: 1-5

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, you have called us. You have called us to a way of life set apart from the ordinary. You have called us to be “a light to the nations.” You have called us to grateful generosity, to faithful discipleship, to holy living. Yet in our sin, we do not live out our calling. Our reasons many, we cannot and need not name them all; you know our faults. Yet in faith, we ask that you would forgive us once more, and remind us of our holy calling, that we might show forth the light of the one who has called us out of darkness, our Lord Jesus Christ, in whose name we make our prayer, Amen.

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: We know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will bring us with you into his presence. People: Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - 2 Corinthians 4:14-15 *THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 357) In hope that sends a shining ray far down the future’s broad’ning way: in peace that only thou canst give, with thee, O Master, let me live.

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all! People: And also with you.

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor is our preacher and Mardee Rightmyer, Director of Children’s Ministries is our liturgist.

Large print hymnals and Bibles as well as hearing aids are available; ushers will gladly assist. Please complete the information in the Friendship Pad at the end of the pews and pass the pads down and back again during the Concerns portion of worship. Children are welcomed and encouraged in worship every Sunday. Worship bags for children can be found in the Narthex. Those who wish to attend Sunday School may do so after the Peace of Christ. Childcare for 0-23 months is in Room 105, and Room 012 for 2 and 3 year olds. Pre-K/K are in room 001.

First Friends is a program that will pair current MPC members with those who have recently joined our church family. After someone joins the church, you as a First Friend will keep the new members informed about special events and programs the church offers. Also you will introduce our new friends to other members of the congregation. If you or your family would be interested in participating or learning more about the program, please give your name to one of the deacons.

Would you like fresh flowers in worship? Would you like to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, new baby or the life of a friend? If so then please see the

sign up sheet for flowers on the bulletin board outside of the Session Room. Pick the date, sign your name, write your email and phone number or contact Georgia Marshall, [email protected], or Lynn Daniel, [email protected], for details.

As families move, Morningside Presbyterian Preschool has had openings become available for

one 3-year-old student and one PreK student. Tell your friends and neighbors to grab them up quickly. Contact Melinda Sandkam at 404-685-8758 or [email protected] today. We also have a few openings for each week of summer camp still available.

We welcome our new Children’s Choir Director, Shannan O’Dowd. Shannan graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. She is the choral director at Johns Creek High School and has a private voice studio. She recently won the 2017 Shuler Award for Music Direction for the JCHS production of Cinderella. Shannan sings with the Atlanta based professional choral ensemble, Coro Vocati. We are pleased to have her join MPC to work with our Treble Choir and to sing with our chancel choir. She is singing a solo this morning during worship, and will be singing in our upcoming Gala Concerts.

Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7

Faith Development at Morningside ADULT

Next week, Beth Baer will lead the lectionary reading and the discussion that follows. CHILDREN

Children will talk about patience and how it relates to their favorite saying, “Are we there yet?”

While I normally preach the lectionary as a means of providing a stable calendar for all the church staff to make plans, this fall I want to depart from that practice at least some of the time. Once our Second Sundays@8:45 resume, I will make it a habit to preach on that Sunday on the texts that the children are learning in Sunday School. But I’m also interested in hearing from you in relation to what’s on your mind. What faith questions perplex you? What do you intend to ask God when you get the chance? What do you wish the church could help you understand? Is there a Bible Story that bugs you? Put your questions on a slip of paper and put it the in “The Questions We Ask” box in the Welcome Center. I’ll form the most popular questions into a sermon series for the fall. I do have a few caveats, though: I won’t be partisan, so don’t waste paper asking. ;-) I won’t address design flaws in the human body either. But aside from that, the world’s your oyster. I want to hear from you, and I promise to take my best crack at an answer. At a minimum, we’ll ask some good questions in the process. Of course, for anything confidential, you can always e-mail me at [email protected].

Morningside wants to connect to the community more than ever! Are you handy when it comes down to Twitter and Instagram? If so, our communications team would like to expand MPC’s reach on social media and could certainly use your help! Volunteer to be a part of the communications team by contacting Daisy Ottmann [email protected].

Help the Kinumbe-Bauma family with their transition here in the States with something as simple as offering a ride. The Sign-Up Genius has been updated to include dates in July. Since the worship service changed to 10 a.m., the pick-up time will be 9:30 a.m. Please consider giving the Kinumbe-Bauma family a ride and helping them get to know one more member of their church community. http: www.signupgenius.com/go/409044ca5aa28a3ff2-rides.

Donut Days resume next Sunday with Mardee beginning at 9:15 a.m. Children’s Ministries will provide light refreshments in the playground and picnic area so that Mardee can meet the families of the church. Families are encouraged to join us for at least one of these. It’s a great time for children to get a snack and run off some steam before worship at 10 a.m.

MPC is having a one day work project on Saturday, July 15 to renovate space for the new Mommy and Me facility at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. Our work will help secure a spot for our new member Georgine Kinumbe-Bauma. Mommy and Me is a popular women’s refugee literacy program which also provides child care and enrichment while the students are learning. We will be painting as well as replacing ceiling tiles in the entryway. Easy work for adults and teens but could use some experience with ceiling tile work! Contact Holly Campbell at [email protected] for further details and to sign up.
