where your wives can stay at homeand where your children can attendschool.

EXT. MUNKACS - EARLY MORNING

A large group of JEWISH MEN AND WOMEN, all brandishing ayellow STAR OF DAVID on their clothing, crowd around an

elevated wooden podium.

At its helm, ADOLF EICHMANN, dressed in full Nazi garb,addresses the restless group.

Standing around him, an assortment of high and low ranking SSSOLDIERS.

EICHMANNYou will have wonderful lives.

In the crowd, ZEEV SAPIR (20), listens intently, oblivious tothe horrors he will bear witness to in the coming days.

WOOT WOOT...

EXT. MUNKACS BRICK FACTORY - DAYS LATER

A LARGE TRAIN parked on train tracks, clouds of steam pouringfrom its exhaust.

Thousands of Jewish people crowd around it, confusion andchaos pulsing through them as guards try to herd them likecattle into the small cattle cars.

The reverberating clatter of machine gun fire proceed a fewscreams of terror.

Two guards beat an elderly man with batons, as he tries todefend himself. They scream profanities at him.

Sapir stands in a line with his family, MOTHER, FATHER, fouryounger BROTHERS and SISTER, waiting to be stripped nakedlike those in front of him.

His hand shakes a little.

A host of guards rummage through mens, womens, andchildrens clothing for valuables, tossing the clothes backto them when finished.

NAZI OVERSEERNext!

Sapir and his family make their way forward.

NAZI GUARD #1Strip.

The family begins to take their clothes off, ashamed.

Sapir places his clothes on a table, and hands a stack ofPERSONAL DOCUMENTS to a guard.

The guard burns them in a trash can fire.

WHOOSH...

INT. CATTLE CAR - MINUTES LATER

Light fills the darkened car as the door flies open, a guardgesturing for a group of men, women and children, includingSapir and his family, to climb in.

They do, slowly filling up the car until there is no roomleft. The long line never seems to end, as more people cram

into the small space, leaving them no choice but to stand.

103 people pressed against one another.

Another guard puts TWO BUCKETS, one filled with water, theother empty, in the car with them.

The door slams shut, bringing with it, darkness.

EXT. CATTLE CAR - DAYS LATER

Flashes of light illuminate terrified eyes from inside thetiny window of the cattle car.

INT. CATTLE CAR - CONTINUOUS

Sapir stares out into the night as the flashes of lightilluminate his bloodshot eyes and terrified expression.

The lights disappear. Darkness.

NAZI GUARD #2 (V.O.)

Out! Everybody out, now!

INT. CATTLE CAR - NIGHT

A BLINDING LIGHT fills the void of darkness as the cattledoor opens.

The sound of savage dogs barking.

EXT. AUSCHWITZ - CONTINUOUS

The men, women, and children file slowly from the train,shadows of their former selves. The looks of terror stay thesame.

Sapir steps out, gaunt and unkept, eyes sunk deep into therecesses of his skull. He looks around.

In this distance, he sees a GIANT CHIMNEY, smoking in thenight.

The group is herded towards an SS OFFICER, who is pointing atpeople as they walk towards him.

Behind him, two lines of people, the left headed towards thecamp, the right line leading to the smoking chimney.

SS OFFICER(pointing at differentpeople)

He tries to run to his family as they are being pulled awayinto the right line, but a guard knocks him down with thebutt of his rifle.

SAPIRS FATHERSapir! Sapir! Let us have our

boy, please!

Sapirs mother and sister begin to sob.

Its no use. Sapir is dragged away into the left line,watching his family being pulled away into the right line,the giant chimney spouting smoke and ashes into the skybehind them like some great monster.

INT. AUSCHWITZ GAS CHAMBERS - DAYS LATER

A HAND, grabs onto a LIFELESS ARM.

The hand pulls it, struggling to move the body the arm isattached to.

Sapir readjusts, his A3800TATTOO, flexing on his bony arm.

EXT. AUSCHWITZ COURTYARD - MINUTES LATER

Sapir struggles to drag the corpse of a ELDERLY JEWISH WOMANthrough the courtyard.

He stops in front of a DENTIST, who inspects the womans

mouth, then gestures him to move on.

He stops in front a barber, who quickly cuts all of her hairoff.

He drags her to a large pit and pushes the womans body intoa HUGE PILE of corpses, men, women and children, burningslowly.

NAZI GUARD #3 (V.O.)Wake up! Everybody outside, now!

INT. JARWORZNO BARRACKS - DAWN

Sapir jumps from his bunk with many others as Nazi guardsscream for them to hurry into the courtyard.

He is hardly recognizable now, a skeleton weighing no morethan a hundred pounds.

EXT. JARWORZNO BARRACKS - CONTINUOUS

A group of 3,000 prisoners stand around confused.

For a moment it looks like they are about to be executedwhen...

NAZI GUARD #4(pointing towards exit)

Start walking.

After a moment of hesitation, the group begins to walk.

EXT. HUNGARIAN ROAD - DAY

The exhausted group trudges through deep pockets of snow asNazi guards escort them from all sides.

They can see their breath. Their purple lips shiver.

Sapir walks near the front, eyes dead.

From behind, an EXHAUSTED PRISONER falls in the snow. Aguard rushes over and shoots him in the head, the gunshotechoing through the forest.

A flock of birds take flight from a tree nearby.

EXT. BETHUNE - EVENING

The much small group of men and women sit on the side of theroad, their captors hovering over them like vultures.

The SS COMMANDER walks up in front of them.

SS COMMANDERAnybody who cannot walk any furthercan stay here. A truck will comeby later to pick you up. The restof you, keep moving.

EXT. DINING HALL - LATER

It becomes immediately apparent that only a few of theprisoners decided to march, thirty at most.

The dining hall is half destroyed, brick and mortar laycrumbled everywhere and all of the windows are blown out.

SS COMMANDERI know you are all hungry. We canstop and get you some food here.

INT. DINING HALL - CONTINUOUS

A LARGE COOKING POT is placed on a counter.

The group of prisoners make their way towards it.

One prisoner jumps in front of everyone and tries to grabsome food.

A LUGER is placed against the back of his head.

BLAM!

The bowl fills up with brain and skull. The prisoner falls

to the floor with a sickening THUD!

The other prisoners are taken aback, frightened.

SS COMMANDERDo not worry! He was being greedy!

The SS Commander gestures to the bowl again.

Another prisoner makes his way forward.

BLAM!

Sapir jumps back in surprise, knowing what is happening.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

Each sound contorts Sapirs face a little bit more, untilthere is nothing but pure terror.

The other guards block him and the rest of the group in.

A YOUNG PRISONER is brought up to the bowl.

YOUNG PRISONER

The German people will answer tohistory for th--

BLAM!

OVER BLACK.

The sound of the gunshot echoes.

SS SUPERIOR (V.O.)That is enough. Take the rest ofthem to Gleiwitz and wait forfurther orders.

SCREECH!

INT. TRAIN - NIGHT

Flashes of light illuminate the darkness from outside,illuminate Sapirs face. He is down to seventy pounds now.His hands shake uncontrollably.

EXT. GLEIWITZ COURTYARD - NIGHT

Eleven prisoners, including Sapir, are marched through thecourtyard by the Nazis they have come to know so well.

Frost clings to their hair.

The camp is overcrowded and run down.

One of the guards opens up a cellar door attached to abuilding.

NAZI GUARD #4Get in.

The prisoners do.

The door slams shut, cracks of moonlight illuminating theirprison.

Around them, thousands of FROZEN POTATOES.

They look to each other for a moment.

Sapirs eyes well up.

They gorge.

EXT. FOREST - MORNING

White snow blankets the earth.

The sun shines through a few clouds.

Thousands of prisoners are marching through the deep snow, ahuge line of Nazis in their wake.

All of the Nazis are brandishing MACHINE GUNS.

Sapir walks with them.

CLAK CLAK CLAK CLAK!

Machine gun fire pierces the quiet air as bodies begin tofall by the dozens.

NAZI GUARD #6Run Jews! Run to your freedom!

Sapir begins to run, bullets cracking the air next to hishead as he dodges this way and that.

Tiny puffs of snow leap into the air as bullets travelthrough it. Inches away from his body.

Sapirs legs give out and his body falls forward, lifeless.

OVER BLACK.

EICHMANN (V.O.)(whisper)

You have nothing to fear... We wantthe best for you... You will live

wonderful lives.

EXT. FOREST - HOURS LATER

Light pierces the darkness.

Sapirs eyes open slowly, adjusting to the sunlight fromabove.

Standing over him, TWO FIGURES. He cant make out theirfaces. He can make out their weapons.

He places his hand over his face, crying, prepared to meethis fate.

A HAND reaches out to him, grabs his tattooed arm.

OVER BLACK.

INSERT -- THE BIRTH OF RICARDO KLEMENT.

INSERT -- MAY, 1945

The rain comes down in droves.

The camp is massive, surrounded by barbed wire.

Thousands of Nazi soldiers hunker down in dug holes, a fewcrowd under raggedy tents.

INT. ALLIED INTERROGATION TENT - CONTINUOUS

A young LIEUTENANT FREEBORNE sits across from Adolf Eichmann,who is smoking a cigarette.

EICHMANNOtto Eckmann.

LIEUTENANT FREEBORNERank?

EICHMANNSecond lieutenant.

LIEUTENANT FREEBORNEBorn?

EICHMANNOf course.

(inhales cigarette)

March 19, 1905. In Breslau.

EXT. DETENTION CAMP TENT - LATER

Eichmann walks through the rain into the tent.

INT. DETENTION CAMP TENT - CONTINUOUS

A crowd of SS Officers stand around in the tent, talking.

Their eyes fall on Eichmann as he walks in.EICHMANN

Behind them, their guards, dressed in green uniforms withwhite helmets and belts.

The rain continues to come down in droves.

A bearded Eichmann, along with hundreds of other SS Officers,are lined up against the fence.

Eichmann avoids their emaciated faces.

INT. DETENTION CAMP TENT - LATER

Eichmann enters the tent, where a dozen or so officers crowdaround playing cards.

He gestures for Scheide to step outside with him.

EXT. DETENTION CAMP TENT - CONTINUOUS

Eichmann and Scheide stand close together.

EICHMANN

They are closing in on me, myfriend. I need your help now,before they find out who I am.

SCHEIDEWell call a meeting tonight anddecide what to do.

INT. DETENTION CAMP TENT - NIGHT

The small group of officers huddle around each other, tryingto stay warm.

EICHMANNI need your help getting out ofthis camp. If they find out who Iam, theyll execute me.

SS OFFICER #2What do they care who you are?Youre nobody important.

EICHMANNNo, but I think theyre after me

all the same. I may not be AdolfEichmann, but the things I did makeme a target. Please?

SS OFFICER #3What is your plan after you escape?

EICHMANNEgypt.

SS OFFICER #4Stay in Germany. The Allies arelooking at the borders because theyknow were all trying to flee. Ihave a brother up North who canprovide shelter for you.

The officers all nod their heads in agreement.

EXT. ALLIED FORCES DETENTION CAMP - NIGHT

Eichmann, dressed in hunters clothing, crawls along theperimeter of the fence, avoiding the light and guard poststhe best he can.

He comes to a small opening in the fence and begins to crawlthrough it.

After a minute he stands on the other side, free.

He takes off into the night.

EXT. VIENNA JAIL - MORNING

Two men, TUVIAH FRIEDMAN and ARTHUR PIER, walk up to theentrance of the Vienna Jail.

INT. VIENNA JAIL - CONTINUOUS

A prisoner is escorted down the hallway from his cell by aguard.

INT. VIENNA JAIL OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

The prisoner, JOSEPH WEISL, is seated in front of them.

Friedman has a notebook and pen in front of him.

FRIEDMANJoseph Weisl?

A beat, as the two are taken aback by the question.

FRIEDMANNo, no. Were here because ofAdolf Eichmann.

WIESLEichmann? I dont have anyinformation about him.

FRIEDMANBut you were his chauffeur duringthe war, yes?

WIESLYes, I was. But after the war, weparted ways. He changed his nameand rank and since then, I haventheard anything about him.

FRIEDMANWhen was the last time you saw him?

WIESLI dont remember. We were all sotired back then. We were hiding upin the mountains and one morning he

was gone.(a beat)

You know he had a mistress though,right?

Friedman looks up from his notebook, shoots a look at Pier.

FRIEDMANNo, we did not.

WIESLHer name is Frau Maria Mosenbacher.He was very fond of her.

Friedman jots down the information.

Friedman steps off of a train.

Friedman knocks on the door.

A moment later, SIMON WIESENTHAL opens the door.

WIESENTHALTuviah.

INT. SIMON WIESENTHALS HOUSE - MINUTES LATER

The two men sit at a table, looking at a map.

WIESENTHALDoppl is a fairly small town. From

the information my contact hasgiven me, she lives here.

(points to a smallapartment complex on the

map)He says she still brags about herrelationship with a man namedAdolf.

FRIEDMANMaybe shes talking about Hitler.

WIESENTHALIf thats the case, she might be awitch.

They both chuckle.

EXT. MOSENBACHERS APARTMENT COMPLEX - DAY

A BAG OF GROCERIES spill on the ground.

MOSENBACHERDamn.

MARIA MOSENBACHER bends down to pick her groceries up, and ismet by a HAND.

FRIEDMANAllow me, madam.

He collects her groceries, much to her delight. She isinstantly attracted to him.

MOSENBACHERDo you mind helping me carry themupstairs?

FRIEDMANNot at all.

INT. MOSENBACHERS APARTMENT - MINUTES LATER

Friedman puts the bag of groceries on her kitchen counter.

He glances around the room as she puts her coat up.

MOSENBACHERThank you very much for helping

me...

FRIEDMAN

Henry van Cassel. Such a nicename. For a moment, I was scaredyou might be a Jew.

Friedman fakes a smile.

Maria is passed out drunk in her living room. On her table,a very full glass of red wine.

Friedman is sitting next to her, checks to make sure she ispassed out, and then makes his way over to a BOOKSHELF.

He sorts through a variety of books. Nothing of interest.

He makes his way across the room.

Mosenbacher adjusts herself, yawning.

He freezes.

After a moment, she relaxes. She doesnt move again.

He rummages through another bookshelf, finds a PHOTO ALBUM.He opens it, flips through a few pages, stops.

His eyes go wide.

A NEW PICTURE of Adolf Eichmann looks back at him.

He takes the photo out of the sleeve.

EXT. FOREST - DAY

INSERT -- 1950

An AXE slams down onto a sawn piece of log, splitting it intotwo pieces.

Eichmann, now looking much older, grabs another log, placesit on a stump, and slams the axe down again.

INT. EICHMANNS HUT - LATER

Eichmann sits at an old wooden desk, writing.

Next to his writing hand, a stack of papers, on top of it, AFORGED PASSPORT, the name belonging to one OTTO HENINGER.

Eichmann in a new suit, looks in the mirror at himself,finishes tying his tie.

Eichmann picks up a suitcase, dons a fedora, and steps outthe front door.

EXT. WORLD MAP/TRAIN - DAY

Eichmann sits on a train, staring out the window, lost inthought.

Eichmann walks through the forests high on a mountain with ahunter.

Eichmann lies awake in the darkness of a dusty, old attic.

EXT. ITALIAN COUNTRYSIDE - DAY

Eichmann, along with a COMPANION, an old man, walk along anold dirt road through the countryside.

In the distance, a CATHOLIC PRIEST in his robes rides towardsthem on a bicycle.

COMPANIONHere he is.

EICHMANNA priest?

COMPANIONMany are still sympathetic to yourcause.

PRIESTAre you tired?

Yes.

PRIESTThere is a town about five milesfrom here. We will take a cab toGenoa from there.

EICHMANNThank you.

INT. GENOA SAFE HOUSE - NIGHT

TWO GLASSES OF RED WINE illuminate a crackling fireplace.

At a table, EICHMANN and the PRIEST sit, playing CHESS.

Eichmanns KNIGHT takes one of the Priests PAWNS.

EICHMANNIts a funny game. Puttingtogether pieces of a puzzle thatdoesnt stop changing.

PRIESTAnd its solved by one solution.

The Priest moves his QUEEN into position.

EICHMANNOne perfect solution...

Eichmann moves his KNIGHT again, directly into the path ofthe QUEEN.

EICHMANN (CONTD)...to achieve victory.

The priest moves his QUEEN away from the KNIGHT.PRIEST

And if you dont find it, itllfind you. Check.

The QUEEN is lined up directly with Eichmanns KING, which isblocked in by an assortment of other pieces.

Eichmann smiles a little.

INT. EICHMANNS ROOM - GENOA SAFE HOUSE - THE NEXT DAY

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!

Eichmann jumps up from his slumber, frightened.

CATHOLIC MONKYour papers are ready.

Eichmann dresses quickly and opens the door.

He takes the papers from the CATHOLIC MONK.

EICHMANNThank you.

EXT. GENOA CATHOLIC CHURCH - MORNING

Eichmann walks up the steps of the grand church and walksinside.

INT. GENOA CATHOLIC CHURCH - LATER

Eichmann, in front of a line of people, steps forward andreceives Communion from the priest.

PRIESTThe body of Christ.

EICHMANNAmen.

Eichmann eats the bread, and sips the wine. A small red

STAIN sticks to his upper lip.

INT. INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS - DAY

Eichmann standing in a line of refugees.

He makes his way up to the clerks desk and hands his paperto a man.

The man sorts through the papers briefly.

He stamps Eichmanns fake passport, the name revealed --RICARDO KLEMENT -- with the date. JUNE 1, 1950.

He smiles.

EXT. GIOVANNA C - DAY

A GIANT WHITE CRUISE LINER, the GIOVANNA C, moored.

Eichmann, dressed in a nice suit, makes his way through asmall crowd onto the brow, and boards the ship.

INT. GIOVANNA C - MOMENTS LATER

Eichmann puts his suitcase and coat on his bunk.

The ticket reveals his destination -- BUENOS AIRES,ARGENTINA.

EXT. GIOVANNA C - LATER

As the ship begins to pull out of the harbor, Eichmann standson the top deck looking back at the shore, reflecting.

He lights a cigarette and inhales.

After a moment, a giant CLOUD OF SMOKE trickles from his

mouth. He laughs.

OVER BLACK.

INSERT - THE DRIVER IS RED. THE DRIVER IS BLACK.

INT. MOSSAD HEADQUARTERS - DAY

INSERT - TEL AVIV, 1957

A man walks down the hallway with an important stride.A myriad of people run about, busy with tasking.

He is not very tall, balding, but the way he carries himself,you would never notice.

He is ISSER HAREL, Chief of the Mossad.

INT. HARELS OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

Harel sits down at his desk and opens a giant drawer full offolders. He briefly flips through them until he finds theone he is looking for, a dossier labeled EICHMANN, ADOLF.

He opens it up.

The picture Tuviah Friedman stole is at the top of the stackof papers.

He ruffles through a couple of pages, uncertain.

He picks up the phone.

EXT. FRITZ BAUERS HOME - DAY

Harel, with a case in hand, knocks on the front door.

FRITZ BAUER answers.

HARELFritz Bauer?

BAUERYes, Mr. Harel. Please come in.

INT. FRITZ BAUERS HOME - MOMENTS LATER
