Dear Retailer,

As an outstanding start to 2012, The Dubai Shopping Festival, under the slogan ‘Dubai at its Best’ was a great success this year with remarkable footfall, sales extravaganzas and great deal of activities within the mall. It is worth mentioning that DSF this year has marked unique events with the premiere of 'Dubai Fashion' including two world breaking records: The Longest Catwalk in the Region and The Biggest Cosmetic Makeover in the Region.

With the striking numbers of visitors to The Dubai Mall in 2011 that reached 54 million and making the world’s most visited shopping and leisure destination, the bar is set higher this year and our mission is to meet all our customers’ expectations and ensure that they remain loyal and visit us again.

This February, a number of specials are on the calendar inviting our customers amongst new visitors and regulars to join the fun. Health and SafetyViolence in the retail outlet

Employees in the retail industry experience more cases of violence than workers in other industries. If any member of your staff has to work alone, you must have a system in place to ensure their well-being. Such a system must include check-ins at designated time intervals and provisions for emergency rescue if it is ever needed.

Preventive measures

• Consider installing physical controls such as security cameras, overhead mirrors, and panic buttons• Improve the lighting and ensure there is good visibility throughout the store, keep valuable merchandise behind counters,

and keep rear exits locked at all times• Greet customers and make eye contact when they enter the store• Do not resist if there is a threat of violence

Dealing with irate customers

If you work in retail, it is almost inevitable that you will have to deal with an irate customer at some point. Follow these guidelines for dealing with such difficult situations:• Focus on the emotions first, try to remain calm, and try to calm the other person• Try to avoid escalating the situation. Find ways to help the irate customer save face• Listen carefully and try to put yourself in the customer’s shoes, so you can better understand how to solve the problem• If you can’t address their concern, take the customer’s name and number and promise to forward the information to your manager or supervisor• If you cannot calm the person, ask for help

Retailer Tips Trade License & Insurance Policy

We would like to kindly remind all tenants that as per your signed Lease Agreement, it is mandatory to hand in a copy of your shop’s trade license as well as a copy of your full insurance policy to The Dubai Mall management. If you have not yet done so, please send the scanned copies to [email protected] or drop them off at the management office to the attention of the Retail Relationship Department. Be advised that Out of Hours Access permits will not be processed if you have not submitted both valid documents.

Pest Control

In an effort to maintain the highest standards, The Dubai Mall management requests that all tenants submit a copy of their valid pest control contract. Please note, all pest control contracts should cover the following

• Main leased unit• Terraces / Balconies / Patio areas • Storage units

All the above areas should be listed on the pest control contract by the service provider. Please forward the full document to [email protected]

Specialised Equipment

In an effort to assist our tenants in carrying out all operational tasks related to their trade, we are pleased to inform you that high level access equipment is now available for retailers to rent. Submit your request or questions to [email protected]

Smoking Areas

We would like to remind all retailers that smoking is permitted only in designated smoking areas. We ask that you adhere to proper smoking etiquette by leaving the smoking areas clean and tidy, using the bins and ashtrays to dispose of your waste, and refrain from using walls and columns of the mall to put out your cigarettes.
