250 days to go! The Youth of the World are

coming to Sydney, July 2008.

Where will you be when 20,000 pilgrims arrive in

Melbourne?

Will you be in Sydney in the middle of 500,000 young people or will you be a spectator, sitting at home watching the World’s largest voluntary gathering, wishing you had submitted the form?

Numerous invitations have gone out to students in Years 9, 10 and 11 to participate in the 2008 World Youth Day pilgrimage. Thank you to the students who have put in their expression of interest. A challenge has been set for those who haven’t yet put in their forms to do so.

Don’t just think about it, do it! It will happen!

You only have two options; you could be watching it from Melbourne with all the boys at Marcellin or you could be a part of the action along with the rest of the World. It’s not too late hand in your form to the Ministry Office.

All students and families who have handed in their form look out for important dates coming up. A parent and pilgrim (student) Information Evening will be held on Monday 19 November at 6:30 pm in the Champagnat Chapel. Parents will receive information about World Youth Day 2008 and have their questions answered. We look forward to seeing you there.

Jack Hoysted Award 2007

Year 11 students interested in applying for the Award

Jack Hoysted was a teacher at Marcellin during the 1970’s and 1980’s. He may be remembered as a man who had a great care for students - in the Marist tradition, a powerful personality and teacher who taught with passion and verve. He was a great story teller whose stories lifted students out of the limits of the classroom and challenged them to dream and wonder about places and people beyond their own experience. The Jack Hoysted Memorial Award, at the request of his wife and family was established after his death so that students could be experience opportunities that Jack never had.

Fours students are sponsored to attend the Marist Mission in Santa Teresa Alice Springs. This covers air-fare and insurance. Students receiving the Award are asked to make a donation to the Marist Brother Community who host and assist our students with this immersion experience.

Students leave for Santa Teresa upon the completion of their End of Year Exams for the duration of two weeks.

To apply for the Jack Hoysted Memorial Award you must obtain written permission from your parents and include a formal letter of support from them along with your letter of application addressed to Mr Mark Merry, Principal of Marcellin College.

Closing date for applications is Friday 9 November, 2007.
