Picking Up Kids During the School DayWhenever you are picking up your children during the school day, whether for illness, appointments, family activities, etc., please check into the school office before you leave the building to sign out your child for the day. If you need to pick up your children during the school day, and it is not pre-planned with your child’s teacher, only contact

the school office. Please do not contact your child’s teacher, as they may not get the message until it is too late. The secretaries will relay the message to the teacher as soon as it comes to the school office.

Sick ChildrenWe already have a largenumber of children sickthis school year. When your child won’t be here for school because of illness, please contact the school office. The secretaries will alert the teacher of your child’s illness. Please remember that if your child has a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, those symptoms need to be gone for a full 24 hours before they can come back to school. If your child comes to the office during the school day with symptoms of illness, we will call the parents first, then anyone else in our records that have permission to pick up your child. Whoever comes to pick up your child will need to check in at the school office to sign the child out.

Science and Fine Arts FairIf your 5th – 8th grade student signed up to do an art or craft project for the Science and Fine Arts Fair, those projects need to be brought to school on Wednesday, October 24th. The Science and Fine Arts Fair takes place at Luther High School on November 3.

St. John's School Now Has SCRIP!St. John's has enrolled in Luther High School's expanded SCRIP program. This is a great way to   reduce your tuition costs   while going about your normal shopping.

Using SCRIP means purchasing gift cards to stores you normally shop at and using those cards as

cash. Because you purchased through the SCRIP program, the stores give a percentage of the sale to the seller (in this case, Luther High). Our church has been utilizing Luther's SCRIP program to help with the tuition of our Luther High School students for over 7 years. You may have seen them being sold in the Fellowship Hall after church services. You have always been able to set up an account for your child at Luther and save for their future tuition there, but now Friends of Luther, who oversee the SCRIP program, will allow you to use that money for grade school tuition, if you wish. You may still leave the money in your account to accrue for your future Luther High School tuition. There is an account set up for the general use at St. John's grade school. If you would wish to have your contributions go that

direction, just fill that in on the top of the order form instead of a specific name. So, set up an account for your child, and dip your toe into utilizing SCRIP. It takes some getting used to, but you will soon find out how easy it is, and you will be squirreling away tuition credits in the process. Forms to sign up and to purchase are the same form and can be found at lutherhigh.org (underneath the heading of Advancement), or in the church and school offices. Purchases can be made after church services. The school office can also help you out during the weekday. Online purchasing is also available. Rather than explain that here, just call Carla Korthals @ 269-1675 (leave a message!) and she can help you out.
