Finals Week 2Wow!Well we thought it would be close but I don’t think any of us ever imagined it being that close. The East Burwood and Scoresby relegation battle, coming down to one goal, kicked late in the game when the other game had already ended, was something not seen before in the EFL and I’m confident saying probably not anywhere in footy where

relegation occurs. I was at East Burwood at the Division 3 finals and the nervousness, confusion, and finally excitement amongst their volunteers was palpable. The percentage calculations were flying thick and fast. Coaches say to players that every kick during the year counts. And this, quite unbelievably, proves it. After a couple of tough years may be this is the sliding doors moment the Rams need to start rebuilding this proud club. And while no doubt disappointed, I’m sure Scoresby take some heart from their strong performances late in the season and will be able to rebuild quickly in division three. The first round of Division 3 and 4 finals were exciting, with some great weather ensuring good crowds. Ringwood continued their good form with a win over Upper FTG out at Central Reserve. On Saturday, Warrandyte broke the bogey of last year’s straight sets exit with a good win over Forest Hill. While at East Burwood, Templestowe held off a third quarter surge from The Basin to set up a huge clash with Mitcham this week. From what we hear both sides have some key goal scorers under injury clouds so it might need to be a surprise packet up forward that gets the job done. That’s exactly what Declan Hauser did for Surrey Park’s under 19’s on Sunday at Mitcham. With his side trailing the Forest Hill Eagles heading into the last quarter, Hauser was first involved in a bit of a calamity that saw a certain goal missed. Having copped it from the Eagles supporters behind the goals, he then proceeded to kick four last quarter goals to steer his side into the prelim final. Over the last few years, the fourth Division Under 19 finals have provided some of the best games we’ve had and the results between Ferntree Gully, Warrandyte

and Surrey Park this year suggest the last two games of the year should continue this. The Division 1 and 2 finals kick off with some great clashes. Division 1 heavyweights Norwood and Noble Park meet at Bayswater with Noble star Kyle Martin warming up with a lazy 52 possessions and 5 goals in the final round v Lilydale. The Norseman look to be hitting form at the right time so it should be a great game. Then at Ringwood on Sunday, Rowville make their debut Division 1 finals appearance against Vermont in what might be the pick of the games this weekend. Two quick, young, skilful teams on the wide open space of Jubilee Park sets the scene for a great game. The under 19s in Division 1 also looks to be a great finals series with each side boasting some quality players, many of which have experienced senior footy this year. In Division 2, finishing at least three games clear of third place shows Doncaster and Croydon are this year’s undisputed top two. Croydon will be keen to go one better than last year’s grand final loss but must first look to hold Doncaster’s class of Annakis, Scotland, Johnson and Thompson. Doncaster East last week look to have recovered some of their great early season form against this week’s opponent Bayswater. However, with some strong performances against all the other finalists this year, I’m sure Baysie enter this week’s game with come confidence despite last week’s result. In Division 4, Kilsyth have been many peoples “sleeper” for much of the year and have big man Sean Currey in dominant form. With one win apiece from their clashes this year, it looks to be a genuine 50:50 game as they take on Forest Hill. Thanks to all our host clubs and the Monash, Knox, Maroondah, Yarra Ranges and Whitehorse Councils for their assistance in getting our finals underway. The weathers looking good, the grounds are in great condition, and the feel of finals footy in certainly in the air. Over what is our biggest weekend of senior finals with seven venues operating, it should be a couple of days that showcases all that is great about EFL footy. See you at the games.

CAR PARKING AT FINALS VENUESCar parking inside finals venues may be limited. This will be communicated via the website and to competing clubs in the week leading up to the game. With much larger crowds than for home and away games, don’t assume you will be able to get a park inside most venues as this will not be the case. Councils have also advised that a parking officer will be in attendance, so park only in designated areas.

NO DOGSDogs are banned at all EFL games, including finals and alcohol is not permitted to be brought into any finals venue. It would be appreciated if all clubs would stress these points with both players and supporters.

ALCOHOL AT FINALS VENUESPatrons attending finals are not permitted to bring alcohol into the venues. At venues where cars have access to the grounds, a condition of entry is that boots are inspected and this will be rigidly enforced.Apart from ensuring compliance with liquor licensing and council by-laws, it helps to protect clubs revenues from finals. As in past years, there will be a two-can limit on purchases and all alcohol sold will be opened by bar staff on purchase. These are part of the licensing requirements.

ONE PAYMENT PER VENUEWe’ll again be adopting an approach where your admittance will allow entry for the full day at that particular venue. Each venue has its own admission fee, so if you choose to move between venues you’ll, need to pay a second entry.

FINALS UMPIRESThe league will supply three field, two boundary and two goal umpires for each finals match.

•The experts are saying that this year’s draft won’t have great depth so clubs are eyeing off the stockpile of young talent at Greater Western Sydney. We run the microscope over the GWS players coming out of contract this year and next season to see if another Josh Bruce or an Anthony Miles could be on the horizon.

•We talk to talented Richmond youngster Ben Lennon who is staking a claim for a place in the finals side.

Finals time. Players, coaches, umpires all want to bring their A game or even better lift their performance to a new level. Similarly with support staff round clubs, yes, even commentators. What about the statsbench? How can the SBRD* lift its performance for the business end of the season? What about this – since 1970 Vermont have played

in 35 finals series and this year is only the third time that they have not had the double chance. In 1992 and 2003 they lost the sudden-death final! Rowville enter their initial Division 1 finals series with the knowledge that they have beaten the Eagles already this season. After a slow start to their season, with just the one win in their first three games, Norwood have since lost just the once and have worked themselves into second spot. It’s just a few weeks since they comprehensively overcame this week’s opponent. However, Noble Park did not take too kindly to missing finals last year for just the fourth time in their EFL career. Just the second finals match for this match up – Noble won the first semi in 2013.

Doncaster play finals for the fifth time in six years, the other year was a wooden spoon and a return to Division 3. They are eyeing off a move in Divisions but in the opposite direction this year as they seek to re-enter the top-flight for the first time since 1992. Croydon stand in their way of a direct entry to the Grand Final. Both teams have been dominant throughout the year with just four losses between them and one loss between them since round 12. They play each other in a final for the second time; Croydon won their previous final the second semi in 1987.It’s not the first time that round 18 repeats itself the next week in the finals. Doncaster East and Bayswater will do it all again. They match up in a final for the third time at one match each, although Bayswater’s 2005 Grand Final win trumps the second semi victory of the Lions a fortnight previous.

Back in 1981 Mitcham had just won their third consecutive Division 1 flag to take them to five and not far of East Burwood’s leading tally of seven EFL flags. (Vermont had two, yes two, now 19). Not many would have thought that we would be talking about the Tigers challenging for their sixth flag in 2015 but here we are. An excellent home and away season, now the real business begins as they take on Templestowe who have had their own disappointments over the years. (Five runners up in eight years, including three in a row and then another two in a row, the last two by a total of four points. I haven’t mentioned last year when they had one hand on the cup at three-quarter time). All that is historical and today is today and one team will progress to the Grand Final and look to create new history.I reckon it would be back in Ringwood’s last Premiership in 2005 when they last won eight games in a row. They get to try to repeat their round 17 victory over The Basin to move another step closer to an unlikely Premiership. But, The Basin weren’t second on the ladder for the majority of the season for no reason, and the margin then was only two points. This is their first EFL final against each other.

DIVISION 1 CLUB NOTESBLACKBURN: In a great return to the Pit, the seniors recovered from a slow start to record another stirring victory against a top 5 team in Rowville. It was our third win in a row and further demonstrated the renewed intensity, effort and adherence to game plan the guys have shown in corresponding wins. Jake “Tooza” Toohey in a BOG performance kicked 3 goals and was supported by Jake Hammond (3), Heath O’Farrell and Benny Fraser with 2 each. Our back six were fantastic all day as were “Tooza”, Jimmy Mc, “Buck” Daniher and Sammy Mac. A great win and some excitement ahead for 2016. The Ressies couldn’t capitalise on a good start and faded in the second half to go down by 20 pts. The visitors showed us up in a few areas, despite the good work from Adam Banks, Mitch Thorp, Byron Bushby and Jake Harkins. James Harkins and Chan Le kicked 2 goals each. The boys however have had a great home and away season and will play off in a Qualifying Final at Bayswater today against local rival Vermont. Congratulations to the players, Coach Alan Love and Assistants. The U19’s were glad to be back on the park and were challenged early by a determined Rowville team that moved the ball well to score more scoring chances. In the end a 5 goal to 3 second half gave the boys a gutsy 2 goal win. Backmen Joey Dikranian and Harry Davis were solid all day and Matt Herman caused some headaches in the air and finished with 2 goals. Congratulations on a great season, finishing 2nd and playing off this morning in an exciting Qualifying Final match up with Knox at Bayswater. Well done to new Coach Mat Eccles and all players on a great season to date. Go Burners! Upcoming Events: 6th September – “Ride 4 Rubber”, Junior Presentation Day, Duck Drop, 24th September – Senior Presentation Night.

NOBLE PARK: After a year off finals fever has come back to the Bullring and doesn’t it feel great. As our song says ‘...we’re striving and thriving to win the flag.....’ Congratulations to the Seniors & U19s on making the 2015 EFL finals. It is now your time and opportunity to achieve glory, you have everyone at the Bullring supporting you and we wish you all the very best. Getting to the finals takes players, sweat, determination, discipline and skill but it also requires coaching staff, volunteers, sponsors & medical crew to get the players out each week. So to all thank you for your time and support during season 2015. Presentation Night for Seniors reserves & U19s at this stage will be on Thursday 1 September – all the details will be on Social media. In a first, last week we saw Dorey leave the ground at half time as Simone had gone into labour. Congratulations to Brett & Simone of the arrival of Otis Patrick. #fathersonrule GO BULLS

NORWOOD: With a finals “Double Chance” to play for, our boys faced a tricky away fixture in the last home and away game of the season against Knox. After a fairly even first half where we led by 15 points, we gradually increased the margin through the second half to an eventual differential of 45 points at the final siren. Final scores were 15.11.101 - 8.8.56. It was a convincing, if unspectacular performance, with Leigh Williams up forward the major difference in the game. His aerial supremacy and 6.4 as a focal point up front gave us, along with Dave Johnson (3 goals) and Darin Stewart, multiple avenues to goal. Skipper John Holmes was at his diligent best, in and under everything, providing drive from midfield, while Stuey Hill returned to the best players list after an unusually long absence with a sharp performance at centre-halfback Matty Jessop rounded out the best players with a solid game in and around the packs, rewarded with two goals. This was far from our best performance for the year, the players perhaps with one eye on next week’s monster Qualifying Final, but we did more than enough to get the required result in solid fashion. And so to next week’s first week of finals, where, as expected, we will play Noble

Park at Bayswater on Saturday, the winner advancing to the 2nd semi against Balwyn, who have the week’s rest after finishing minor Premiers. The loser will face the winner of Vermont and Rowville, who face off in next week’s elimination final on Sunday at Jubilee Park. Our 2nds, after a strong win on Saturday which featured 7 goals from senior forward Matt McCormack and an eye catching midfield game from Brent English, both returning from injury and sure to push for senior selection, will play on Sunday in an elimination final against Rowville. The Colts have also been consigned to a Sunday elimination final against Noble Park after falling an agonising 1 point short of Knox in the last round in a game where the lead changed half a dozen times in the last quarter. Both these games are at Jubilee Park. A big few weeks of footy ahead after our 3 senior sides qualified for finals, an excellent achievement in its own right. Social: Vote Count, Saturday 12th September 7pm in the MARK-E. All welcome. Finger food provided, drinks at bar prices.

ROWVILLE: Heading into the last round of the home and away season we took on Blackburn at Blackburn! Under 19’s put up a great game and played together very well as a team in their last game for the season. Unfortunately they went down by 12 points! We look forward to seeing these boys back again next year for a bigger and better season! Rowville’s work rate and intensity was exceptional and pressure applied to Blackburn was outstanding. Rowville controlled most of the first quarter however didn’t convert their opportunities! We were 9 points down t quarter time. It the second quarter we managed to get a goal on the bard but the score difference still remained at half time. In the 3rd term we finally hit the score board and booted 5 goals and changed the momentum of the game. We went into the final quarter up by 10. In the final quarter Rowville wasn’t going to let the game slip and piled on a further 6-5 to Blackburn 5-1 to run out 20 point winners. The senior team went into the game with a great, fast paced first quarter! The second quarter the game lost a bit of intensity and Blackburn took advantage of their scoring opportunities and delivered. At half time it was a even ball game! 43 - 43 each. Rowville came out at half time and tried to hang out but Blackburn out ran our boys by 17 points! We look forward to finals footy this Sunday and hope for 2 wins! Good luck to both teams! Go Hawks!

VERMONT: We get to the end of another season and we are very proud that all our teams, including our boys playing as the Forest Hill Eagles, have made the finals. It is a long journey starting back in October and the energy, time and effort required to achieve this is enormous. That said, we are not just coming to finals to participate. Last week against South Croydon all teams comfortably won, although the Reserves boys made a meal of it. Our FH Eagles played their first final and although putting up a fantastic effort, were just not good enough in final term after leading at each quarter break. No disgrace. We were super proud of a great bunch of young men and very appreciative of the work done by Coach David Knight. We are also appreciative of the Forest Hill Football Club who have welcomed our involvement over this past two years. We hope down the track some of the lads who have participated will wear the green & white. This weekend, we have Seniors & Reserves split onto different venues and days which is difficult and accordingly there is no back to our Clubrooms Saturday or Sunday Night. Best spot for a refresher is the Members Bar at the Wantirna Hill Club. If you have a Raffle Tickets from Brian Power, can you get that all that back to him. If not, he will start pestering you. Good luck to all the players representing us this weekend, so many for the first time. - WE ARE THE MIGHTY EAGLES.

DIVISION 2 CLUB NOTESBAYSWATER: Final game last week at our nemesis ground, Zerbes, and with little to play for except pride, the development squad started out as they have recently to trail by 3 goals at the first break. We rallied to take the lead by 5 points at half time but again slipped back to trail by 8 points going in to the last. We somehow found our old form to come home with a wet sail kicking 5.8 to 2.3 and showed the form that had us in the four for most of the season. A great way to finish off the year but unfortunately, too little too late. Smudge got 3 goals and was best with Trav 2. Grubby killed them all day and J.B., Thommo and Lange did well. Keep together boys support the seniors and take what we know we can achieve into next season. Huge thanks to Acid and Dave for their unwavering support and efforts during the season. A lot more riding on the seniors with a finals spot the for the taking. What happened? Both sides had to win if Waverley Blues could topple Doncaster and it seemed Donny East had this in mind more than us. The less said about this game the better with it seemingly over at half time with us behind by 70 points. We did battle it out and actually won the second half but again, too little too late. Jacko with 3 and Wayno 2 were the only multiple scorers. Van Rooyen was outstanding over four quarters with Scooter, Schroedes, Shaggs and Tex battling hard. Now the season really begins. We front up again tomorrow against the same opponent and will really have to tweak a few things to alter the outcome. We know we can do it, all a matter of applying ourselves on the day. Positive and tough we have to be and this we can be. Back Macca and Smithy and do the Baysie Army proud. Onward and upward. Go Baysie.

CROYDON: Well it’s finals time again and all roads lead to Boronia. We are playing in all three games, against Doncaster in the seniors, Wantirna South in the seconds and Mooroolbark in the under 19’s. Good luck to all teams. Congratulations to Andrew Hughes who plays his 200th senior game today. Let’s do it for Hughesy. Last week the seniors after a slow start kicked 14 goals after half time to register an 83 point win over Mooroolbark. Justin Ficorilli kicked 6 goals and Jarrod Clark 4 goals. Best were Fico, Clarky and Pockets. The seconds had an easy 173 point win. Sam Wilson, Matt Lyall and Nathan Wiggins each kicked 4 goals. Best players were Matt Lyall, Nathan Wiggins and Jack Harris. It was effectively a match fitness warm up for the under 19’s as they have had no game for three weeks. They were defeated by 35 points. Schilly kicked 3 goals the best being Schilly, A. Ficorilli and Harry Stevens. We would love all supporters to get to training on Tuesdays and Thursdays nights which will be at Fred Geale Oval for the rest of the season and support the

players during the finals. The Club would like to thank all volunteers for their help during the year and we look forward to a successful finals series. Presentation Night will be held on 18th September at the Dorset Gardens Hotel, $60 a single, $110 a double. GO BLUES!!!!

DONCASTER: One and a half wins last week in the final round against the Waverly Blues. Colts in 5th spot were playing the 4th spot Blues for a place in the finals, though even a victory would be enough as the % was significant (plus 10 goals). The boys had a go in a see sawing game and could have almost snatched victory with the last kick, but were not to be. Good effort for the year and well done to Disco and coaching team – stick around boys and will be great to see you all step up next year. Best – Mosse, Flood, Torcasio, Coates, Thiel & Knight. Reserves already knew we would be playing the Blues the following week in the 1st Semi so it was a bit of a game where both sides could learn a little. Well we learnt nothing as it ended up a draw!! Take 2 today. Best – Mutimer, McNamara (5 goals), Briffa, Latino, Sheales & Polak. Seniors took on a Blues side that had a fair bit to play for and a side we have utmost respect. It was a tight first half but our five goal third term proved the difference as we eventually ran out 6 goals winners. Best – Annakis, Scotland, McKenzie, Liebelt, Kadlecik & Schimma. Today the Seniors take on Croydon in the Second Semi and tomorrow the Reserves lock horns once again with the Waverly Blues in the First Semi. Club Rooms are open tonight (and each Saturday of the Finals) at 5:30 with Awards at 6:15; we encourage all to get back there. Vote Count will be on the Sunday after the last game – whichever weekend that may be and Presentation Night will be on the weekend of 18th/19th September – TBC. Big thanks to all the Supporters Volunteers and Committee for their tireless work during the Home & Away Season – we couldn’t survive without you. And on a final note, I must confess after declaring I would win the Stickta Cup last week – I didn’t tip a place getter let alone a winner over 5 races – STICKTA!!!

DONCASTER EAST: Well the Divvy 2 Final Four has been given a (6.5 on the Richter scale) shake at the eleventh hour! Going into last week’s game with a buffer of only 1.37% on Waverley Blues, our Finals chance was looking pretty slim with having to face third placed Bayswater in the final round. Our main concern was staying ahead % wise of Waverley Blues (just like the relegation battle) and hang on to 4th possie. But the Lions were certainly on the prowl last week and were so hungry for a kill we caught the Kangaroos napping and ripped them apart in the best Donny East start I’ve seen since the 2007 GF! This is our first finals appearance since that magic day and

Page 26: The Eastern Footballer | Week 20

22 www.efl.org.au

DIVISION 2 CLUB NOTESwhile we’re not getting over excited (we’ve felt the pain of a kick from a Kangaroo a number of times over the past few years) – we’re primed for a fierce battle. Last week was the final game for our Rezzies and sadly, although having an 8 point lead at the final change, we just couldn’t hold on. A Big thanks to Team Manager, Debbie Phillips, Timekeepers Adam Vaiano and Kiara Zaccardi - and Raj Rawat who often filled in as Boundary Umpire after running around in the U19s. With Finals footy comes a degree of uncertainty – so I’ll either see you next week or next year! Our ‘Finals Fever Dinner’ (Thursday September 17) tickets have been selling fast. Guest Speakers Mark ‘Bomber’ Thompson) and David ‘OX’ Schwarz. Better call Pete Sowersby (0408 383 118) asap. DEFC Presentation night is Friday Sept 25 at Zerbes – see Michael Gordon for tickets “Our supporters roar every time that we score . . . . We’re the Boys from Donny East” - Colonel

MOOROOLBARK: its finals time and the Mustangs are represented by our Colts who have had a stellar home & away season, going through undefeated. Coach, Neil Wells, has done a great job with the boys and I’m sure he’s instilled in them that the job’s not finished yet. A number of the boys have experienced Senior footy during the season and this can only help in their development. All at the club wish Wellsy and the boys well in their finals campaign and look forward to celebrating with them at the end of it all. Today the Colts take on Croydon in the 2nd semi who they happened to play the last week in round 18. After an even 1st term we were able to draw away to record a 35 point win with Sam Downie kicking 4 goals and Daniel McGee voted best. The Reserves and Seniors both faced a difficult task taking on potential Grand Final contenders in Croydon and both suffered big defeats. Signs are positive for the Mustangs for next season with senior coach, Paris Harvie, being re-signed and the majority of the players also committing to the club. Our Presentation Night will be held at the Maroondah Club on 1st October so make sure you see Janelle, Mel or Marcie to book your tickets. Best of luck to the Colts today. GO MUSTANGS!!!

WANTRINA SOUTH: Congratulations to our best & fairest winners for 2015. Jordan Roberts (U/19), Robert Papp (Reserves), & the seniors had joint winners in Taylor Leggate & Brent Walker. Presentation night is at the Whitehorse Club on Saturday 26th September at 6:30pm, tickets are $90pp payment can be made at the club or via bank transfer. See Kathy Lang to RSVP. Good luck to the Reserves today in yet another finals campaign. Go Devils.

WAVERLEY BLUES: Congratulations to our Under 19s and Reserves for making the finals and good luck today. Well done also to seniors coach Ben Carboni for the season just ended for those boys. Ben has already signed up for next season and the club is definitely headed in the right direction, just missing the finals by percentage this year and just falling short against ladder leaders Doncaster in the last round. Beaten by the better side on the day. Under 19s coach Nutta played his 50th game last week in the seniors and this week he leads his team into a finals match. An effort made more incredible because the club couldn’t even field and under 19s side last year. Nutta won’t be happy just to take part in the finals so we can look forward to our boys doing their best to give them a real shake. Last week they pipped Doncaster by five points with a spirited come from behind win. Hawkins, Mier and Lean were in the best. The reserves had a draw and will meet the same opponent again this week, albeit with a lot more to play for this time around. Huljak, L.J. Cole and Macaulay were best. The twos have always been a strong suit of the club so we’re hopeful Luke Taunt can lead us deep into the finals again this year. Presentation Night this year will be November 6th so see club guides for details. Go Blues!

EASTERN RANGESThe Eastern Ranges have recorded successive wins, with a 49 point victory over the Murray Bushrangers in Round 18 of the TAC Cup. The winning margin belies the fact the game was a tough and entertaining battle with a high level of skills on display. Under great football conditions in Wangaratta, the two sides could barely be split during the first half, with neither team taking a commanding lead.At quarter time the Bushrangers held a 1 point lead, while at the major break they had extended it to only a 3 point buffer. However, the Ranges did not seem to be missing leading goal-kicker, Blake Hardwick, who was lost at the selection table with a minor groin strain. Ten individual goal-kickers stepped up to cover his absence in the end.The Bushrangers made a quick start in the third quarter and by the 20 minute-mark had built a four-goal lead in a game that up to that point had been hotly contested. Against the flow of play, Darcy Crocker provided a spectacular individual effort inside 50, scrambling the ball forward and kicking a goal after bouncing out of a tackle. This seemed to spark the Ranges into action and the side rallied to clear the deficit within a matter of minutes. In the space of 8 minutes, the Ranges kicked 5 goals to take a 10 point lead into the final break. The final quarter was the Ranges reward for hard work throughout the game. They kicked 7 goals to 1 to run out convincing winners. From the 20 minute mark of the third quarter the tally read 12 goals to 1 in favour of the Ranges.Ryan Clarke in his second game back from school football duties again dominated through the middle of the ground. The star midfielder gathered 45

disposals, 11 marks, 10 inside 50s and pushed harder forward to kick 3 goals. Captain Liam Jeffs and forward Jake Gilbert also kicked 3 goals each in a team effort that helped cover the loss of Hardwick. The win shores up the Ranges chances of a top 4 finish with one game remaining in the regular season. The Ranges will face the Sandringham Dragons in Round 19 of the TAC Cup.

DIVISION 3 CLUB NOTESPARK ORCHARDS: It was a great start to the Sharks Finals campaign Saturday with our reserves fronting up to battle Ringwood who have had a lot of momentum going into the finals in both their seniors and reserves teams (2nd place). From the first bounce our guys really showed they had come to play. With 24 contributors in a 4 quarter strong performance, we were really pleased with the output and result for the day - victors by 63 points. Keeping Ringwood goal-less until the final moments of the 4th quarter was a true indication of our relentless pressure and team first football. The Reserves now reset and are focussed on a big game Saturday versus Mitcham who finished top of table. Our under 19’s finished top of the ladder and so had last week to rest up and plan for this weekend as they too play Saturday versus Boronia. This will be a great challenge for our guys and one I know that will need their best performance to beat Boronia. As a club we look forward to this Saturday then with 2 teams playing off for the right of passage straight into the Grand Final. We would like to use this opportunity to thank the support of our Major Sponsor throughout the season - Hoskins Premium Property People, who has been an amazing support to our club. We welcome them back onboard next season also as our major sponsor and encourage anyone looking to sell their property out East, to sell with the best.

RINGWOOD: The Seniors began their finals campaign last week with a good victory over UFTG last Sunday. After an even first quarter the boys took control in the second quarter and held a handy four goal break at half team. We continued our good form in the second half and slowly increased our lead and through good team football ran out convincing winners. The boys will take a lot of confidence from the game into this weeks final and if they continue to display their recent good form they will give themselves a big chance to progress to the preliminary final. The Reserves fronted up in the qualifying final however they were completely out played for the four quarters and were never in the hunt. It was a very disappointing performance considering their good form they displayed throughout the season which saw them earn the double chance. The boys are very keen to atone this weekend and show the club and all supporters their real form and hopefully will get back onto the winners list. Our Division one netball side went down in their semi final by the narrowest of margins which put an end to their season however the girls are to be congratulated for their efforts in what was a successful year for the team. Tickets to our Presentation night being held at the Coach & Horses are now available so please ensure your attendance and get in early to book with full details available on

our website. Today we wish both our Reserves and Seniors good luck as they contest their semi finals and all the club are behind both teams and will be out in force to cheer them onto victory. Everyone is invited back to the social rooms after the game today for refreshments and awards and hopefully we can celebrate another couple of victories.

TEMPLESTOWE: The stage is set for a thriller at East Burwood Reserve this Saturday with the Dockers playing top of the table Mitcham Tigers – the Purple Haze will be out in force to support our boys. Last Sunday our U19’s faced Mitcham in an Elimination Final at Central Reserve. Cougar’s boys again could not match it with the Tigers and went down by 62 points. Well done Kaylem Lambrecht for his 2 goals and Tim Waters for BOG. Thanks to all our support group for their efforts during the year. The Reserves took on Upper FTG Kings at Central Reserve as well Sunday again in an Elimination Final. George Sahinidis was our only multiple goal kicker with 2 and was nominated as BOG - the Kings outscored the Stowe and went on to win by 24 points. Our Seniors put on a show on Saturday at East Burwood in the Qualifying Final against The Basin Bears leading from the first bounce with Daniel Sands a force up forward going in at half time with a 53 point lead. The Bears came out in Q3 snarling and reduced the Stowe lead to 28 points but Coach Irwin told the boys to hold their nerve and follow the game plan – the result was a 59 point victory. Matt Mariani with 5 goals and Jordan Ceppi BOG. You can still get the Dine Out Card – $300 value for only $45 helping to support Doncare. Unfinished Business 2015 – CQR.

UPPER FERNTREE GULLY: The seniors season finished last Sunday with Ringwood being too good on the day. Well done to Chad and the players on a good season and look forward to further improvement next year. The year is still alive for the club though with the U19’s who went down to Boronia last Saturday having the second chance playing Mitcham while the reserves had a good win against Templestowe to keep their season going against Ringwood. Congratulations to Brenton Toole on playing his 50th game last week and also Dayne Fuss and Jack Thomas who played their 50th U19’s games. Don’t forget Presentation Night is at the Dorset Gardens Hotel on September 19th; tickets are available from the club. Thank you to all our sponsors for 2015 and especially our Major Sponsor Ferntree Gully Toyota and Gold level sponsors LPS Waste Services, Knox Ford, Frawley Signs, Action Events and Mystique Printing. Please use them and mention you are from the club so they continue their great support to us. Good Luck Today Upper.....Go the Red and Blue.

JULY – YOUTHChris Beamish – Mooroolbark Under 17’sChris has been a savour for this team going forward in 2015 as our selected coach had to resign due to personal reasons. With a lot of hard work by Chris to find a replacement he took over the role interim but we were unsuccessful in finding a permanent coach for the season.Chris has also implemented Thursday nights after training, the boys stay at the club for dinner and be a part of the senior club. This is a great idea for the boys to get to know the senior players and how things work at senior level. Not only has Chris done all this but he has also continued with his role as Coaching Director, leading our coaches into another season while he is trying to coach probably the hardest age group. Plus being at committee meetings and contributing to the club in general.

AUGUST – YOUTHSteve Anstee – Bayswater Girls Under 16’sSteve Anstee has been involved with the BJFC for the past 3 seasons, and has been instrumental & the main motivator in bringing Girls Football to our Club. We are proud to be one of the first & few clubs in the Eastern suburbs to offer all girls sides of AFL football. Steve is a very well organised & dedicated coach; who gives plenty of time to planning his training sessions, to ensure the girls are learning & developing new skills, whilst still having fun. He is a great communicator & always ensures that all girls & their families are made to feel welcome to the team & club. On game day Steve ensures his team line up is well planned & communicated to all.

JULY – JUNIORBrett Crapper – South Croydon Under 10’sBrett is a constant fixture at the Junior club at South Croydon, and has been instrumental in bridging the gap between the Junior club and Senior Club. He has a great respect for the game, and when needed, has reprimanded

his team/players if they have shown a lack of respect for the opposition and the umpires. He has created a positive team environment where all players and parents feel included and valued. The boys all love to attend training because he makes it fun and they are not left to stand around and be bored. Never a negative word has been said. Brett has always been patient, kind, supportive and understanding of the boys on his team and they all respect him and respond to his style of coaching. I have been involved with Junior football for many years and have never come across a coach as dedicated, encouraging and supportive as Brett Crapper.

AUGUST – JUNIORDaniel Newton – South Croydon Under 8’sFor the past 6 months Dan has coached 18 young boys from the Under 8’s team at South Croydon. Rain, hail or shine, Dan has faced every Sunday morning with a smile on his face and a selfless attitude. Nothing is ever a problem and the kid’s enjoyment of the game is priority for Dan. Each Wednesday night or Sunday morning you can always hear him praising two or three kids. Never a negative word from his mouth, Dan gets behind the kids and makes sure everyone gets a fair go. Even if South Croydon were short on players, Dan approached other coaches to get their bench on the ground. Always making sure the kids get a run. The job is selfless and requires an enthusiastic and determined person to undertake the commitment.

DIVISION 4 CLUB NOTESFERNTREE GULLY: There was a sniff of spring in the air on the first weekend of the finals at Walker Park Mitcham, with our Under 19’s taking on Warrandyte and our Reserves taking on Kilsyth. Our Under 19’s got our weekend off to a great start on Saturday with a 3 goal win, only if they had of kicked straight early – Corey Beswick proved to be the main focal point up forward with 7 majors, whilst Luke Sproules and Dylan Eacott chipped in with 2 goals each and Mark Battaglia with 1 goal. It was a similar storey on Sunday for our Reserves with a 17 point win over the opposition – Joshua O’Brien finished with 2 goals, whilst Matthew Camera, Nicholas Jook, Luke Manion and Jason Cafferkey all finished with 1 goal each. Our under 19’s head off straight into the Grand Final in 2 weeks time whilst our Reserves take on Forest Hill today for a shot at the ultimate prize. Don’t forget our Junior Presentation night at Picketts Reserve tonight, come and enjoy the fireworks and celebrate another successful year for the Junior club. Some important dates to keep free are our Senior Presentation Night on Saturday 12th September 2015 – please see Ange Cavarra for tickets and our AGM on Wednesday 21st October 2015. Don’t forget to Support Our Sponsors who support your Ferntree Gully Eagles Football Club. Our Sponsor can be found on our website www.ferntreegullyfc.com and on Ferntree Gully Eagles FC Teamapp. Go Gully!

FOREST HILL: Our Netballers got us off to the perfect start with a 29 to 24 win over Whitehorse progressing to the Grand Final. With the same prize on offer on the Saturday, the Reserves got off to a quick start. Unfortunately, that was as good as it got as Warrandyte’s pressure forced us into uncharacteristic skill errors. This week the Reserves face Ferntree Gully and they will be fired up after knocking us off a few weeks back. The Seniors hung with Warrandyte for the first half but they never allowed us to get our running game going. In the third quarter they pulled away and despite our odd flurry of goals we were unable to get within striking distance. Ash Naulty’s 6 goals was the only bright spot on a pretty dark day. Both sides have worked too hard for the double chance to let this opportunity slip now. We returned to Walker Park on Sunday for the Under 19s elimination final. Holding a narrow lead at 3/4 time we were confident they would go on with it. Unfortunately Surrey Park piled on 6 goals in the last quarter. A great effort from all the boys involved in the side this year and they can

proud of their achievements. A huge thank you to all our 2015 sponsors and supporters. Without you we would not have got this far. The job is not done yet. Our final social function is the Presentation night on September 19th, start booking tickets now. Go Zebras!

KILSYTH: A bitter sweet day out at Walker park saw one of our two sides progress to the next week of finals. The reserves knew they had work to do after facing Ferntree Gully in round 18 and battled hard all day. Blistering performance from Elliot Ross kept us in the game with countless marks across the backline and rushed behinds. It has been a pleasure playing with this bunch and I am already looking forward to another chance of success in 2016. In the main game our boys started strong in what felt like an uninterrupted first half. In the second half Coldstream came at us multiple times and set up for an arm wrestle of a last quarter. It took a full team effort to get across the line and we are proud of our boys for getting the job done. This week sees us take on Forrest Hill again promising to be a titanic clash. It was great to see so much support from our fans last week and we look forward to you rallying behind the boys again for what will be our road to the grand final.

SURREY PARK: What a great day for the footy club it was last Sunday, it was one of the most passionate spirited wins I’ve seen at Surrey. Forest Hill started well to there credit and got the jump on us we were 5 goals down at one point. We needed Leadership out there and our captain Kane Hendon showed plenty, he just ran all day and got heaps of it and kicked 4. Big Callum Ternes was winning the hit outs and was best on for mine. Oliver Anderson’s work rate was fantastic through the middle, Tom Badcock and Tom Dowling were solid in defence as always. At three quarter time coach Clint Sim asked the boys to ‘fix it’ very firmly. The boys responded the man with the ponytail stepped up, Declan Hauser kicked 4. Nate Briscomb had a wonderful game kicking 2, Rogers chipped in with 1. We realise today is going to be very tough, but the vibe is up we have momentum. If we play we play with that same spirit and passion who knows, enjoy the day boys.
