Adam was loose constructionist; the congress was a strict constructionist, favouring a states’ right over central power. Thus, the congress rejected all his proposals. The Democratic Party The supporters of Jackson formed the Democratic Party and chose to nominate Jackson for the presidency in 1828. The opposition, now known as the National Republican Party supported Adams for a re-election. It was a landslide victory for Jackson because he was in favour of common people hiding high offices; whereas, Adams hided only rich people in high offices.
