If you knit or crochet and would like to come, you’re welcome too. It’s a time of fellowship and to be in ministry with one another as we learn new skills and improve on old ones. Hope to see you there. It is open to the community and all are welcome to come.

Let’s Stay connected this summer!

SANCTUARY STEWARD OPPORTUNITYWould you consider being part of a group of volunteers who come on a rotating schedule to neaten the Sanctuary and have it ready for Worship services each week? This loyal team

replaces Bibles and hymnals in book racks, restocks offering envelopes and attendance registers, collects used bulletins, and sharpens pencils. We currently have enough volunteers that each person’s name comes up only every 8 to 10 weeks. If you are al-ready serving in this way and are willing to continue or if you will be a new volunteer, please call Virginia Hathorn at 327-3962 or email at [email protected] in advance for your help. Remember, if you are unable to volunteer at this time, it is a big help if you return your Bible and hymnal to the rack and take your worship bulletin with you after services or place it in the recycle buckets as you leave the Sanctuary.

Thursday, July 7 - 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.1657 Wells Station Rd.

Bring cash only for your sweet treat and fellowship with children and parents.

United Methodist Men

IF YOU DIDN’T KNOW____________________The Defender League is our Adult Men’s Christian Basketball League. The birth of this league in Janu-ary 2010 was focused on not just developing basket-ball skills, but developing friendships and relation-ships that would last a lifetime. Before each game we all stand in a circle and ask if anyone needs prayer. This is done at EVERY game. The Jesus is Lord, Monday and Fisher of Men, Thursday leagues do it also. A lot of prayer comes from YOUR gym during the week. These young men know that St Luke’s is here for them and that we care. And, most importantly, they know GOD is in this place. The games are on Tuesday and Friday nights. We have players from all over the world, players from the collegiate level, such as U of M, Ole Miss, UAB and East Tenn State to name a few. And at times there even might be an active NBA player show up. But to many, this is a place that all are welcome. For them to play the game of basketball, to put their trouble away for just a little bit. To RE-CREATE themselves or at least try to be the person GOD wants them to be.Come out and support these young men.. It’s FREERemember HIM Always, Coach Day

Save the Date: Saturday, October 8, 2016PRAISE the SPIRIT CONCERT featuring the Award winning gospel group THE FINCHERS!This is a fundraiser for the United Methodist Men of St Luke’s. A BBQ dinner will be available prior to the concert. The cost will be $10. Look in future Epistles for detailed information about this awesome event.

There is a British television program that I enjoy watch-ing that is called “Songs of Praise”. It is a show that travels all around the UK visiting different churches. While at each church the church’s congregation sings hymns together for this broadcast. It is wonderful to see and hear different bodies of believers coming together to express their faith through song! And at the start of each “hymn sing” the show’s host turns to the congregation and says, “All right everyone, let sing our hearts out!”.As I am sure you all have noticed the choir is in its off season and you all have been singing your hearts out in worship. I want to thank you for this. Not only does it sound great, but it keeps the energy up. Or as Method-ists, we might say it keeps the spirit moving! As we continue on through the summer, know that this coming music season’s preparations are already under-way. And boy… it’s going to be a great fantastic season! The choir will meet July 30 for it’s annual retreat here at the church. All are welcome to come and join with us this year as we sing and lead people in worship! So if choir has been something that you have been consider-ing, now is a great time to try us out.Have a great and safe rest of the summer and remem-ber, let’s sing our hearts out!S.C. Toe, Director of Music Ministries

It's never too early to start thinking about Christmas in July, that's Operation Christmas Child at least. As the school sales

come out, please start thinking about those items that would go into your OCC shoebox. Right now at the Dollar Tree you could pick up flip flops, sunglasses, hard candy, coloring books, balls, dolls, hair bands, combs & brushes, toothpaste and tootbrush, bar soap & washcloths. Put together your own box or buy a couple of things for the packing party. Look online at samaritanspurse.org/OCC to read all about this wonderful ministry for children around the world.

What is Sit & Sew ... Sit & Sew is a ministry to do clothing repairs and alterations or even custom sewing for church members and the community. Basic sewing lessons are also given to those who wish to learn to sew. It is sewing, fellowship and fun plus a great way to make new friends and be in ministry with one another. When is Sit & Sew ... Sit & Sew meets the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10am to 4pm in The Lounge. All are wel-come to come for the day or part of the day or even an hour or two. We have a great group of ladies from the Memphis Chapter of the American Sewing Guild who come to work on projects and help one another. What does Sit & Sew cost ... There are no fees for this ministry. I do ask that donations be made to St Luke's UMC for any work done. The amount of the dona-tion is up to the individual.Marty Cobb - 324-4943
