The Estill County Tribune, May 13, 2015, Page 7 Times Remembered Betty A. Young [email protected] The Estill County Mid- dle School Girls Softball Conference Tournament was played on Saturday May 9th at Rockcastle County High School Field. It’s a bird, it’s a plane, its Superman. No, it’s the ECMS Softball Team starting training in early December 2014. Mem- bers of this team began a super intense training program that Coach Bob Young set into action. Focusing on build- ing muscles, confidence, endurance and a desire to achieve a goal of be- ing champions brought this group back day after day, even with moans and groans filling the room for the first week of training. But as each girl realized what they were accom- plishing in only a few weeks they were hungry for more intensified work- outs. 25 pushups, 25 sit- ups, 25 dips, the dreaded “circle”, weighted ball, duck walks, the agil- ity ladder, cones over and over for an hour and half with only a three minute break. Don’t feel sorry for them they got to rest a bunch…... in the push up position. They laid on their tum- mies and backs in what was called the SUPER- MAN; as they mimic flying and swimming. Wednesdays were very special and received the label “BURNOUT,” as everything was done at superman speed. The girls would show up the next day flexing arm muscles, leg muscles and walking with swag- ger with their heads held high. Each day of super- man workout would bring them closer to the start of practice. A day they eagerly awaited and anx- iously anticipated. Practice day finally ar- rived; only to be held in- doors because of all the rainy weather we were experiencing. Actually, “Mother Nature,” showed her strength quite often this season as 14 games were rained out. How- ever, the 18 games that were played had plenty of action. These Patriot Girls are ripped with muscle definition as they threw harder, farther, and with great accuracy. Their bats could be included in the song, “My Old Kentucky Home,” because their bats made music all the day. No coach could be any prouder of a team than Bob was of these girls. With determination they went on to win the con- ference season champi- onship and finished their season as tournament run- ner up after a hard fought game in extra innings with Foley by a score 7-6. The girls finished their season with 15-3 record and two beautiful show- case trophies. These young ladies are truly SU- PERGIRLS. Bob could not have ac- complished all the work of coaching himself. He was surrounded by a fine coaching staff of Mike Long, Keith Adams, Tom Jones, Shaun Hale, and Lori Collins. Having these people made his job so much eas- ier. Thanks to all. CONRADS Tree Service & Lawn Care FREE ESTIMATES 17 YEARS EXPERIENCE LICENSED & INSURED Cutting, Pruning, Removing & More CALL 723-7404 or 975-5601 The Coming of The Lord by BOB CASEY, preacher Cornerstone Church of Christ 1212 West Irvine Plaza The writer of the Acts of the Apostles said in chapter 4, verse 12: For there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” This says very clearly that there is no one else to look unto for our Salvation. This also alludes to the fact that all have sinned and stand in need of forgiveness. Luke wrote in chapter 19, verse 10 stating that Jesus came to seek and to save the lost. So still today our Lord is still in the saving mission. But still, and how sad it is, that the majority of all people still have not recognized, or have accepted his terms of pardon. As our Saviour was born in a manger in Bethlehem it is stated by the Holy Spirit that His name was to be called Jesus and that He would save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). Then in Luke 2:32, the scrip- tures include all the Gentile nations as well. Still most remain committed to their earthly pursuits only. How then are we too arouse people to the need of Je- sus? Well, the only recourse that any preacher has is to preach about the impending judgment that we will all appear at. Hebrews 9:27 declares it. Also men need to be warned of the fire of eternal damnation that will be awaiting all unbelievers. Revelation 20:10-15 also re- veals this tragic event. It is very tragic because all the unfortunate who go there, did not have to. But in the meanwhile, they spend their days always meaning to give time to preapre to die, but most again never do! Many will buy marble headstones in a beautiful cem- etery preparing for the burial of the body, but make no preparations for the eternal place, either in heaven or hell. In Matthew 25:41-46 the writer tells of this awful place that is awaiting all the disobedient, calling them cursed. He also says the punishment is everlasting, and besides this the disobedient will have the devil, and all his angels for their neighbors. He then concludes that they will all go away. This can only mean that the opportunity for any form of redemption will be gone forever. In closing, why would anyone choose this place of terror for themselves? You might say, “I am to obey,” but it you are not presently saved, you have made the choice to disobey up to this point, and if death were to overtake you today, you will live forever with the choice you made. So I encourage you to listen to Jesus, your friend. He will save all who will obey His voice. Read Hebrews 5:8-9., See if I tell the truth. Call or visit with us the next Lord’s Day at the cor- ner of Bond Street and Camp Avenue in West Irvine. We meet at 9:45 a.m. Sincerely, Bob Casey 1-859 (Waco) 364-4165 The uncertainties of life always end with the cer- tainty of death. We know it is there waiting for us. No one knows when their heart will stop. Yet, when the time comes, most in- dividuals have a few last words. Cardinal Borgia said, “I have provided in the course of my life for everything ex- cept death, and now, alas, I am to die unprepared.” Tony Hancock, a British comedian said, “No one will even know I existed. Noth- ing to leave behind me. Nothing to pass on. No- body to mourn me. That’s the bitterest blow of all.” Elizabeth the First: “All my possessions for one moment of time.” PhillipIII,KingofFrance: “What an account I shall have to give God. How I should like to live otherwise than I have lived.” Voltaire, a religious skeptic said, “In twenty years Christianity will be no more. My single hand shall destroy the edifice it took twelve apostles to rear.” Some years later, Voltaire’s house was used by the Geneva Bible Soci- ety to print Bibles. When Jesus died the words of Psalm 31:5 were on his lips, “Into Your hands, Father, I commit my spirit.” As He was end- ing His life’s work, hanging upon His cross and dying for our sins, He declared His faith, hope, trust and confidence in His Father. There was no fear, no re- gret, no questions about life or death. Only the as- surance that His spirit was in His Father’s hands. PS0602- May 13, 2015 1.
