EU For An Ambitious
Global Agenda
Protect Nature
Protect 30% of EU land and sea
➢ Based on Natura 2000 and nationally designated areas
➢ EU wide target, take into account specific situation in MS
➢ Integrate ecological corridors to build coherent network
Strictly protect a third of these areas
➢ Covering areas of very high biodiversity value & important
for mitigation and adaptation to climate change, including all
primary and old growth forest
Restore Nature ✓ Legally binding restoration targets to be proposed in 2021
✓ No deterioration of protected habitats & species + positive trends for 30%
✓ Reversed pollinator decline
✓ Restored 25 000 km free-flowing rivers
✓ Remediated contaminated soil sites
✓ Agroecosystems: organic farming >25%; high-biodiversity landscape features >10%; pesticide
use and risk reduction by 50%, fertiliser use reduction by 20% and pollution reduction by 50%.
✓ 3 billion additional trees planted respecting ecological principles
✓ New Urban Greening Platform: the Green City Accord
✓ Halved number of Red List species threatened by Invasive Alien Species
✓ Reduced damage to seabed, bycatch
Enable Transformative Change
➢ Governance framework including
monitoring
➢ Unlocking financing
➢ Business engagement
➢ Knowledge, education
➢ Promotion of Nature-Based Solutions
