• In the last decades Europe has lived an intense process of integration

• in 1957 - Treaty of Rome - EEC (6 countries) ;• in 2012 - EU 27 States / Euro Area 17 countries• However, the process of integration, which has

undoubtly brought to all Europe important benefits, did not lead to an even distribution of the economic activity both across and within European countries.
