about the CoVeR:

Year 2011 marks a milestone in the history of the Claveria Grassroots Labora-tory Cooperative because it’s the first year when LabCoop finally sends its incorporators to be regular members of our mother Cooperative. The first issue of the exeCutiVe PRofile serves as a repository of the Legacy of its incorporators. Tainted with dark and blue, Labcoop laments for waving its hands to the young minds it molded and the versatile hearts it touched. On the other side, Labcoop sends them with pride and trust that it is just the beginning if its greater legacy.

My warmest greetings to the leaders and members of the Claveria Grassroots Laboratory Cooperative on the occassion of your fourth General Assembly. I feel very glad and gratified of doing your responsibilities and having actively involved in various programs of your cooperative and your Mother Cooperative, the Claveria Grassroots Multi-Purpose Cooperative. Working and sharing together for the betterment of members through your officers and leaders signifies commitment and dedication for progress and development. Indeed, your performance and contributions to the success of your mother cooperative serves as inspiration to move forward for progress. Your mother cooperative strongly believes that your Lab Coop is an organization of young people aspiring to learn, lead, manage and achieve better education, good character and com-petency for better life. It has always its aim to capacitate and empower you to become more responsible and better citizens equipped with the values of honesty, cooperation, love, industry, frugality, respect and service. You really make a difference. It is our great pride to have some of you who have become regular members now of our mother cooperative. Having occupied a different ladder in the cooperative, it is expected that there are greater responsibilities to assume, more horizons to explore, and better opportunities ahead of you. Continue sharing your talents, capabilities, and resources for better service. Likewise, to those young leaders who had been left behind in the Lab Coop, the challenge to sustain, if not to surpass the legacy your older counterparts had done is in your hands. With your dedication, commitment, coupled with hardwork and strong belief in our Lord Almighty, you can continue to paint good things that make the history of Lab Coop a very good legacy to emu-late. Just do your part, we will also do our part, and for sure, God will do the rest to make our cooperative sustainable and progressive. Indeed, it is a great honor and privilege to be of service to cooperative members and the community. Congratulations to Claveria Grassroots Laboratory Cooperative! Kudos!

My warmest greetings to all the members of the LAB COOP on your 4th An-nual General Assembly.

Through the dynamic leadership of your Board of Directors and the full sup-port of your members you were able to send the first batch of your members to become regular members of your mother cooperative. I firmly believe that they are now ready to perform the duties and responsibilities of a quality member.

The LAB COOP is a development tool for the young to be prepared when they become regular members of the cooperative. Your cooperative has achieved a milestone and I encourage each one to continue supporting your cooperative to achieve its goals and objectives. Rest assured that your mother cooperative will always be at your side in all your cooperative endeavors.

Congratulations and more power!

Read a good speech and they’ll yawn. Role wise, the childish nature of LabCoop members is a challenge-a never easy challenge. One must put himself to his member’s shoes, exactly think like him, and find out how you, as a leader can teach him how to learn to follow your lead. You must think and act (sometimes)like a child to understand them but you must still plan like a leader, take one step forward and tell them how well the Coop is doing and how important he is to make it better. Leading young children whose motivation is merienda, aircon, visual pleasure using po-werpoints and animations, means they don’t listen to a good speech no matter how well you say it and how well you think of it. You only need to show them the “Income” figure in a project study and they’ll now whether to vote aye or naye. Contentment, for a leader, is not found. Is is earned. Finding this magazine widely read is an achievement, lecturing over more and more applicants is glory, and witnessing your succe-ssors perform well and even better than you, with your example, is REAL success. In reaching their legal capacity (18 years old), LabCoop members automatically become regular members of our mother Cooperative, the Claveria Grassroots Multi-Purpose Coopera-tive. This means that our responsibility grows bigger, and the skill to discharge it is LabCoop’s dedication among its members. As the outgoing chairman of the board, with pride and elation, I hold my head high to present the exeCutiVe PRofile and to dedicate it to our successors, to our Mother Coop who never left us as we grow more responsible, especially to the Board of Directors, together with our beloved staff from the various departments, and of course, our very supportive parents. Today and beyond, this legacy lives on, and it will keep on burning the mark LabCoop seeks to instill: Leadership, Integrity, and Competence. The Honor has been ours. The Lagacy lives on, and it is a lifetime achievement to be a part of it. Mabuhay ang Grassroots LabCoop!

These are the foundations of a Labora-tory Cooperative-a coop of young and ingenious minds with promising hearts-the next frontliners of Claveria. The changing soci-ety calls for a sturdy pillar to lean on to help it elevate the quality of life and en-sure sustainable progress

To formally organ-ize the LABCOOP, the first General Assembly was held on August 1, 2007. It was facilitated by the Chair-man and the Vice Chairman (Ex-Officio Chairman of the Education and training Committee) of the Board of Directors from the Claveria Grassroots Multi-Purpose Cooperative in the person of Dir. From a simple recom-mendation from the Cooper-ative Development Authority, the Board of Directors of the Claveria Grassroots Multi-Purpose Cooperative has conceived a promising organ-ization waybackJuly 2007. They are to have an affiliate cooperative f young individuals to train

21 members of the coopera-tive, ranging from elemen-tary to highschool students. Prior to the elections, everyone was asked to intro-duce her/himself. Eventually, the elections were conduct-ed through secret balloting. With a generous heart, Dir. Estorquia paid for the 210 (21x10) pesos membership fee of the incorporators. Short term plans and orientation on the starting guidelines were subsequently made. With initial efforts, the

and introduce the concept of coopertivism. To com-ply with legal restrictions, our mother cooperative has moved to provide by-laws, formally register our COOP, and start market-ing prospect members. There was a word of mouth campaign to reach out every qualified indi-vidual and join hands to-wards the fulfillment of the organization’s goals.

LABCOOP formally came to business with total assets of P 5,250, and 105 (21X5) issued shares of P50 par. One week after the formal organization, as a new affiliate of Grassroots, LABCOOP joined the found-ing anniversary of the Coop-erative. Newly elected offi-cials were also inducted to office, followed by the first inaugural address of the Chairman of the LABCOOP, Dir. Randell Dan P. Dalire.

Vision: A strong cooperative of young leaders imbued with cooperative values of independence, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity towards greater social responsibility, environmental awareness, cultural ad-vancement, values enhancement, and sustainable de-

velopment.

sume greater role in social responsibility through in-volvement in learning and experience-based activities geared towards entrepreneurship, savings mobiliza-

tion, values enhancement, and skills development.

Mission:

The execuTive Profile vol. 1 No.1

Souvenir Making

The proposed frame-work of the business is a sou-venir shop with tourists, both local and abroad as target cus-tomers. In view of the rising demand for these items sought by balikbayans and even techni-cians and regional officers, the Coop aims to utilize and posi-tively take advantage of the de-mand by selling souvenir items that best suit the tourists’ taste. Hence, this business pro-posal has a twofold purpose with the primary objective to in-volve LABCOOP members in a business activity. On the flipside is the purpose to attract more and more tourists and eventu-ally market our town in line with high class tourist destinations. The products are printed mugs packed in attractive designs to make it more marketable. It will be available in the Claveria Grassroots Shopping Center.

Activities and Standing Plans

These can also be pur-chased in bulk with a person-alized design as a token dur-ing family gatherings, wedding, christening, etc. with prices ranging from 180-250/pc. Con-tact number: 0928-464-6509

repacking BuSineSS

The Claveria Grassroots Shopping Center finds it more profitable and beneficial for consumers to buy products in lot sizes and repack rather than to buy ready packed products. The process is a non-skilled packing of sugar, pepper, etc. Strategy: LABCOOP members to undergo training in repacking. Trained members will follow a schedule and take turns during Saturdays and Sundays. Members on duty at Saturday will no longer work the follow-ing Sunday. There will be three members, shifting at a 4-hour alternate schedule (equivalent to 4 teams/ week).

Benefit: The job is an easy way to earn for the cooperative. The labor will be computed and paid per piece and 50% of the total labor cost will be received by the member in cash, and the remaining will be automatically added to his savings deposit. It is, by nature a voca-tional training for the members through simple business en-deavors and simplified exposure in the business world. Values learned: Honesty, Perseverance, Patience, value for labor, team-work and cooperation.

I was then hesitant, when they invited me, but then “mabalin kayo umu-tangpara scholarship” (you can avail of an scholar-ship loan) was the best line we heard. I was thinking of a cold cash to replace my 3315 cellphone.

Randell Dan, Hyacinth, Charmaine

Labcoop is an oppor-tunity for us to meet friends and participate in the suc-cess of Grassroots. I love the gatherings-friends, games, and of course, foods :)

Mark Kevin, Harvey, Franz

Labcoop gives me a different feel-ing hanging out with friends. We some-times cram, but in the end we’ll still be able to do it right. Lesson: Cramming can finish things :), the way they mustn’t be.

Kristel, Marjorie

I Love Lab-Coop!:). Thanks to our mother Coop for the guidance, the love, and the merienda :). It always revitalizes us during hot meetings.

Maria Therese, Cor Angelo

I’d love to hang out with my friends Eric and Crisel. T hrow-ing crumpled papers, making noise, and some other stuff. But we never forget to work when some-thing’s need to be done.

Ciara, Russel

My major ma-jor like is the coop-eration we have. Best things happen when: we end up with noth-ing all day, and then we realize “If only we have merienda.

John Patrick, Eric, Eden Jean

My friends always remind me to go. I also sometimes make it an alibi to escape some house chores, but I’ve always realized that it’s worth sacri-ficing sometimes, be-cause what I learn in the LabCoop are things I cannot learn anywhere I’d be.
