The Fear
Ben Howard
The Concept
Ben Howard produced the song ‘The Fear’ as part of his successful album Every Kingdom. We came to the decision of this song because of the main idea, the lyrics and the upbeat yet darker meaning.
This song significantly fits with our idea of how the pace quickens as we could adapt the speed of our shots which make an impact when layered all together. The idea of this ever-growing fear of the unknown exists in everyone and one of our main topic ideas is taking the fears of a few various individuals and paralleling there stories throughout the music video.
The Lyrics
The childhood aspect is adapted throughout of this journey growing old and coming to final death. The deep meaning could strike an impact on our audience as its powerful and relatable. Different fears can be experienced throughout life and so we will try and interpret the feelings through filming them.
‘The time is a little unclear’ could be constructed through the ultimate fear of death overcoming all of us.
The constant worrying is repeated signifying the power of our fears. In relation to the repetitive aspect the song emphasises the feelings of a specific individual and so within our video we will have one significant story going on.
Our idea
We want to portray the idea of personal fears throughout the video for this song. We will be experiencing a variety of different aspects of fear within one family.
In the family there will be 4 members: The mum, the dad , the son and the daughter. Each will be trying to overcome their own fear.
The Mum:
The Dad: death
The Son: water
The Daughter: failure
All these deep fears parallel each other and come together in a final ending of death. The morbid atmosphere will be emphasised by the darkened weather of our local areas season. The locations are very important to our group and we need to make them as easily accessible as possible.
Plans for the Narrative
We will follow 4 stories exploring each persons fear. We will use relevant shots and angles in effective locations to represent these. However, towards the end of the song, the four individuals will come together and the audience will realise they are a family each suffering from their own fear.
We will have a beginning voiceover in the introductory music which will describe fears which will then lead into the song.
Plans for the Performance
The father figure will be the singer as well as having his own fear. We will switch between the narrative and the performance and include a guitar to get the full impact of the singer.
