Our Teaching Philosophy

• All students must be challenged through high expectations and rigorous academic standards.

• Working together we provide every child with the tools necessary to succeed in our society.

Page 4: The Fifth Grade Team and Your Children Welcome You to Back to School Night

• It is only through demonstrating respect that we truly celebrate our uniqueness and diversity.

• This allows us the

opportunity to become a community of learners, aware of our individual strengths and needs.

Page 5: The Fifth Grade Team and Your Children Welcome You to Back to School Night

• We strongly believe that as parents you are the child’s first teacher.

• Working as a team, we can create an environment that will promote a positive learning experience for all children.

Page 6: The Fifth Grade Team and Your Children Welcome You to Back to School Night

Team Teaching

• Pairs of teachers are sharing responsibility of teaching your children.

• Your child’s teachers will be in constant communication with each other.

• Planning, grading, and report cards will be a collaborative effort.

• Teaming allows us to become experts in certain areas as we integrate the new common core

standards.• It will also help ease the

transition to middle school.

What can Parents do to Help?

Don’t prevent your child from understanding mathematics by saying: “Well I really didn’t get math when I was in school.”

Instead, say: “We can figure this out together!” And ask, what are you thinking about the problem?”

Ask your child to estimate about time, distance, weight, and money situations all of the time in every day life.

Notice, and talk about, all kinds of patterns in and around your environment.

Communication• It is important to have open

communication between teachers, students, and parents.

• Your child’s teachers know the most about classroom situations and expectations. Therefore, please contact them first as questions or concerns arise.

• Please understand that other responsibilities before and after school make it difficult to meet with parents on a “drop in” basis.

• E-mail or call and leave a message. We check our emails and messages daily and will respond as soon as possible.

• Let’s work together to help your child succeed!
