It has been fun, my friend. All those days in the Holland Heineken House, celebrating

and cheering together, eating hotchpotch and drinking beer. Sometimes we just

didnt understand each other, with all the different songs we sung and the different

dances we danced. But when it comes to partying and having a good night, it look

like we were quite the same. Goodbye, my friend. Lets hope we meet again in Soc

    in 2014. Photo: Sander Stoepk

Canada yesterday won their thirteenthgold medal of the Olympic games of Van-couver. Te undefeated mens curlers beatthe Norwegian team with 6-3. In a tightbattle at the Vancouver Olympic CentreCanada kept an iron grip on the nalearly on and were never behind throug-hout the 10 ends. Red and orangea perfect comboFor eighteen days, the Netherlands and

Canada came together for one big party.

They celebrated their medals, cried after

losses and enjoyed the Dutch hospitality in

the tenth edition of the Holland Heineken

    House.

From the moment Clara Hughes walked in BC

Place with the Maple leaf, until Kevin Martin

won curling gold for Canada. Together, we saw

Sven Kramer win gold on the 5K, and loose it

on the 10K. We witnessed Joannie Rochette pay

a tribute to her deceased mother and Nico-

lien Sauerbreij win the rst snow-gold for the

    Netherlands.

The Dutch and Canadian visitors in the Hol-

land Heineken House delivered some terric

moments, and experienced it with each other.

Sitting side to side on the oor, eating a kroket

sandwich, or chatting together at one of the

    picnic tables.

For the Dutch, the Olympics of Vancouver are

one with mixed feelings. There were surprises

with Mark Tuitert and Ireen Wst in the 1.50

meter speed skating event. But there were a

disappointments with the team pursuit and t

    bobsleigh team.

Team Canada delivered, according to their to

amount of gold medals, one of their best gam

ever. After not winning one Olympic title in1976 (Montreal) or 1988 (Calgary) , Alexand

Bilodeau won the rst gold medal in the mo

event. Many of his teammates followed his le

and made sure that Canada topped their tot

seven gold medals, that was set four years ag

    in Turin.

In the evening, the Holland Heineken House

longed to the party people. It didnt matter t

most of the music was Dutch. The Canadians

loved every song. Denitely, the most specta

performance came from DJ Armin van Buure

Although the 10K didnt deliver the expecte

gold that day, the audience went nuts when V

    Buuren showed up.

Tonight, the doors will close, and the Minoru

Arena will come back to life. Perhaps, there w

still be some orange left in the building. Just,

the memory of these last eighteen days.

While house band De Coronas is ready for their lastsong and the arrival of DJ Ben Liebrand, its speedskater, and gold medalist Mark uitert who takesanother shot at glory. Next to speed skating, uiterthas another passion he would like to share with thecrowd: rock music on guitar.

Accompanied by De Coronas, he plays Neil YoungsRockin in the free world. Tats the only songIm able to play straight out of my head, uitertsays, almost like a true rock star. I was watchingthe band, and thought they were really good. When

they were ready for their last song, they invited meon stage. I had a great time.Tat was totally mad, Hans Vorstenbosch of DeCoronas yells, just after they walked of the stage.Te complete band is really excited about Marksperformance. He can play with us more often, thecrowd went wild. Denitely, it was the best song ofthe evening. We gave him a high-ve behind thepodium, and asked what was tougher: speed skatingor a playing guitar on stage. He said: With speedskating, I get exhausted. When I play rock music, Iget more energy.Tis denitely was a highlight forus during these Olympic games. In the Medal Ceremony Hall, uiterts surpriseperformance is the talk of the night. Fantastic, he

was playing very well, and he was rocking himselfas well. Tat surely was terric to see. Fleur Bes-seling says.Te sisters Nathalie, Lisette and Marianne couldntbelieve their eyes when uitert entered. We heardthat he did it four years ago, at the Olympics inurin as well. It was great fun to watch him. Before the party evening really started, the atmosp-

18 days, 9 musical guests, 16.500 kroket sandwi-ches and over 120.000 visitors. Put it all together

and youve got the perfect mix for the tenth edi-tion of the Holland Heineken House.

Find a place, where Dutch sportfans can celebratetheir athletes, where they can socialize and havesome fun. Minoru Arenas turned out to be theperfect place where the Netherlands and Canadacould celebrate together. And celebrate, they cer-tainly did.Pascal Stolk, project manager of the Holland Hei-neken House, was surprised by the success. Afterthree days, we knew that we hit the jackpot. It wasgreat that so many Canadian and Dutch sport fans

wanted to visit our place.Instead of having 3.500 guests in the House, secu-

rity would hold people when there were 3.000 in-side. Stolk: We wanted to show the good, friendlyside of the Holland Heineken House. Every visitorshould have some space to dance. But even when you put only 3.000 people in thesame room, things can get out of control. Stolk wasvery pleased with the attitude of the Canadian visi-tors. Its very nice to see how well Canadians listento authority and are able to wait. Even when wetold them there wasnt any room left, the Canadiansleft nicely. Tat was great to see.

After doing the same job during the Olympicgames of Beijing in 2008, Vancouver 2010 will bethe last Olympic games for Stolk. Youve got toknow what you want to do: make everybody who

here was a little bit dull. Although the audiencewas in for a party, the four speed skaters, who wonbronze on the team pursuit event but didnt get theexpected gold, were not able to they were happy

with their medal. When the crowd started to applaud Sven Kramer,

Simon Kuipers, Jan Blokhuijsen and Mark uitea smile arrived on their faces. uitert: Of couryesterday we felt terribly disappointed. But tod

we wanted to get our revenge, to show the Ducrowd what we are really made of. And I think did.

is inside happy to be here. I think that Heinekethe Dutch Olympic Committee and the compl

Holland Heineken House crew were the basics this success. Teir perseverance made this an unfgettable experience for lots of visitors. All honoto them.
