FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
The Reach Texas Offering is the annual state missions ministry offer-ing of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention. It is a way for you and your church to participate in the Great Commission strategy for Texas. This is how we start more churches, and reach more people for Christ.
The statewide challenge goal is $1.3 million.
Week of Prayer and Emphasis for the Reach Texas Offering September 21-28, 2014
100% of your gift to the REACH TEXAS offering is used for Missions & Evan-gelism Ministries / Strategies (Disaster Relief, Church Planting, Evangelism and Missions).
Watch the Sunday Bulletin for more information about the Week Of Prayer Week Of Prayer Week Of Prayer for Southern Baptist mission work in Texas, and the chal-lenge to reach our church church church goal of $6,000.00. goal of $6,000.00. goal of $6,000.00. As we focus this month on mission work in Texas, we will learn why the Lone Star state is the Lone Star state is the Lone Star state is America’s future. America’s future. America’s future. Across Texas, churches and minis-tries are at the intersection of the old and the new. In every case, they are taking the “old, old story” and telling it in new and different ways to reach the lost, whoever they are and wherever they may come from. A part of the old Texas or the new Texas, they they they all need to know about Jesus all need to know about Jesus all need to know about Jesus
and his love.and his love.and his love.
Please join us in concentrated prayer, focusing on the lost people of Texas. Concern yourself with the spiritual condition of your neighbors, community, business con-tacts, as well as the multi-cultural sea of faces that are a part of the makeup of TEXAS today. This is our future. This is our calling, Our mission field. Share your faith. Share your gifts through the REACH TEXAS OFFERING. Let’s do our part to win the lost and REACH TEXAS for the Kingdom of God.

Children of the Day:Children of the Day:Children of the Day: 1 and 2 Thessalonians1 and 2 Thessalonians1 and 2 Thessalonians sheds light on the relationship shared by those who comprise the church. Together we stand shoulder-to-shoulder as we look outward, living in obedi-ence to God’s Word and in anticipation of Christ’s com-ing. The study is designed to be completed over nine weeks through a combination of daily individual study and weekly group sessions. There are 4 levels of study to choose
from, and you are encouraged to choose the degree of par-ticipation that best meets your needs.
Beth Moore reminds us that just as the New Testament believers carried the Spirit of God as they walked along the shores of Thessalonica, we also carry that light today.
“You are all children of the light “You are all children of the light “You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not and children of the day. We do not and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the dark-belong to the night or to the dark-belong to the night or to the dark-ness.” ness.” ness.” -- 1 Thessalonians 5:5
This God-centered Bible study can change your life. The sub-ject doesn’t have to be new; it just has to speak to the predica-ment you’re in right now.

September is here! Soon, the weather will begin to cool. Soon, things will return to normal, what-ever that is! Sounds like a good time to reassess things. How’s your spiritual life. Have you talked to your Savior lately?

to the Lord! Let me clear the air!
I identify with the problems I describe. I struggle with how to find time to pray, with feeling close to the Lord, with what to say and how to say it. I seldom feel worthy or even adequate. Of all who may read these in-serts, I, most of all, need to think about the suggestions and act on them.
What I do know is that there are great blessings to be had by developing a closer relationship with your Lord and Savior. There is a real presence you can feel. You can know real
peace, real assurance that God is in control. There is wisdom to be had, strength to overcome. There is joy in knowing
that you are loved and blessed.
I have experienced all of this. I know each of you has access

It has become common these days for advertising to include disclaimers. Drug ads really seem to go too far. There is half a commercial on how the new wonder drug can fix your prob-lems followed by a long list of side-effects and problems that sound a lot worse than what-ever you are curing! More in line with what I am getting to are the ads for some lawyer who promises to turn your mis-fortune into a fortune, and on the screen a message states he is not been board certified to do what he is promising to do for you!
I have been reviewing some of the “Thoughts” I have presented over the years. I am struck by how smart I seem to think I am! Page after page telling you how to improve your prayer life and grow closer

Mission Statement
As the body of Christ, our mission is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every person in the world and to make disciples of all the nations, as mandated for us by His Great Commission in Mat-thew 28:19-20. We do this under the authority of God's inerrant Word, to the glory of God the Father ("For in Him we live and move and have our being" - Acts 17:28a), under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and by the empow-erment of the Holy Spirit.

happenings
The Children's Committee is working hard to coordinate a growing and successful Children's Ministry within our church. The volunteers in the Children's Department are going above and beyond to help fill the gap and make sure our children's needs are being met and the Gospel of Christ is being shared. We had a very successful summer with children's camp, GA camp, family gatherings and our own RA's, GA's & Mission Friends program. With the beginning of school comes the beginning of other exciting programs. Pre-school Choir and Children's Choir meet on Wednesday nights at 7:10 p.m. for one hour. The Awana Program meets on Sunday nights at 5:00 p.m. for two hours. Beach Club meets weekly and kicks off this month at Lakeview Elementary.
