TRANSCRIPT
The first International Conference on Research Advances in Additive Manufacturing (RAAM
2019) was held on March 3-5, 2019, at the Nanjing International Conference Hotel in China. The
Scientific Committee Chair is Prof. David Bourell from the University of Texas at Austin, who is
also the chair of Solid Freeform Fabrication Symposium. The Organizing Committee Chair is Prof.
Liao Wenhe, who is the Vice President of Nanjing University of Science and Technology. More
than 180 experts and scholars from China, the United States, Belgium, the United Kingdom,
Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Singapore, Australia, South Africa and other countries attended the
conference. Sixteen well-known experts delivered high-level keynote speeches:
The conference set up six topics on materials, equipment and processes, simulation, complex
structure and design, hybrid additive manufacturing, and additive manufacturing applications. 62
reports were delivered covering the scientific theory of additive manufacturing, technological
innovation, innovative applications and the future development. 14 experts were invited to serve as
the chair of the parallel sessions. 2 best papers and 6 best oral presentations were selected.

On March 5th, the closing ceremony was held at the Caritas Hall of the International
Convention Hotel. Prof. Jean-Pierre Kruth, Prof. Ian Gibson, Prof. Eric MacDonald presented
certificates and monetary awards for the best paper and best oral report winners. The best paper was
recommended to the top journal Additive Manufacturing. The guests watched the cultural programs
showing Chinese traditional culture, including: Erhu performance "New Horse Racing", flute solo
"Spring to Xiangjiang", Guzhen solo "Snow Mountain Chunxiao".
