The First Thanksgiving
The Pilgrims meet the Indians
The Pilgrims left England because King James would not let them practice their own religion.
The Pilgrims sailed to America in the Mayflower .
The Pilgrims landed in Plymouth Massachusetts in December 1620.
It was a very cold, snowy winter when the pilgrims arrived. There was little food or shelter.
The Pilgrims soon met an Indian friend, Squanto. He taught them how to survive in their new land.
Squanto taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn, beans and squash. He also taught them to hunt and fish.
The pilgrims built homes and soon their harvest was plentiful.
The Pilgrims and Indians shared their bountiful harvest that fall, in October 1621. We now know this as the first
Thanksgiving.
