MEMBERSHIP

Trips are now on sale. If you haven’t already paid your membership fee of $30.00, come prepared to do so at the next meeting. You can also send your payment now to: Snowdrifters Ski Club P.O. Box 697 Batavia, IL 60510

Sue Stanciu Membership Chair

Credit Cards It is now possible to use a charge card to pay for your membership dues and trip balances. The caveat is that these balances must be paid in full at the time you charge them. Here is how it works. When you sign up for a trip, the Treasurer will register you for the trip on the Website when he receives your money. At this time Wild Apricot creates an invoice for the amount of the trip. Then your down payment is recorded against the amount due. For trips, we typically send an email receipt only for payments and we do not send a separate email with the invoice, so you may not be aware of the invoice. However, the invoice will show on your profile when you login. To use your credit card, log in and click “view profile” below your name in the column on the left. In your profile, click “invoices and payments” from the menu. You will get a response with a section for paying the total amount due for all trips with a list of the individual trip invoices below that. In the payment section there is a box marked “pay online.” By clicking on this you will be taken to the website for Affinipay, the company that provides charge card services for Wild Apricot. That site will ask you all the questions you have come to expect when charging things online. If you don’t want to pay for all trips at one time, you can click on the individual invoice number and you will be presented with a similar response that will let you pay for just the trip you selected. Here’s the catch: YOU CANNOT MAKE INSTALLMENT PAYMENTS WITH A CREDIT CARD. Wild Apricot only supports payments for the full remaining amount of the invoice. For folks who like to pay for the entire trip at one time, this is no big deal. For folks who like to pay in installments, you might want to pay only your last installment with a credit card, at which time you will be paying the full amount still due. The process is similar for paying membership dues. An invoice is created when a person clicks “Join Us” on the main menu. We currently do not generate invoices for renewing members since you are renewed at the time we receive your dues and we don’t need an invoice. If you’d like to renew by paying your dues with a charge card, let me know and we’ll figure out how best to do this. Fees: Yes, the Club is charged a fee when members use a credit card, but the Club has decided to absorb the cost and there is no cost to members for using a credit card.

Login. Then click on “view profile” in the left column. The total balance due is shown in the lower right corner.

Click on “invoices and payments” from the list at the top and get:

Click on “pay online” to pay the full balance due. Click on an invoice to get the option to pay only one invoice.

GOLF WITH YOUR FRIENDS!

We will be having Scramble Golf outing which I've heard it doesn't matter if you're a golf pro. This takes place at Pottawatomie Golf Course in St. Charles which is a 9 hole course. The cost is $14 per person and beginning at 12:00 p.m. PLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGE DUE TO BETTER THAN ANTICIPATED INTEREST IN THE OUTING! Currently, there are 23 players and diners set up! Nancy Lazarz and Joe Hopp are the organizers of this event. This is a Robert Trent Jones course ranked the 15th Best 9-Hole Golf Course in America by Golf World Magazine. It offers scenic views along the banks of the Fox River in St. Charles, it is a local favorite, a little gem. The unique 9-hole golf experience includes an island green on #3.

The course is a pleasure to walk. Electric carts are available for $10 per person or walking pull carts can be rented. There is nearby access to the Fox River Trail which runs alongside the river for those who prefer to bicycle or walk before our get together after the golf scramble. Don’t miss out on the 1st annual “Golf with Your Friends” Outing. Please email your preferences for golf and dinner, golf only or dinner only to Nancy Lazarz at [email protected] or Joe Hopp at [email protected].

Telluride Ski Resort, Colorado. February 4 - 9, 2020

Tuesday–Sunday Price: $1,400

SOLD OUT – Waiting list is established

If you haven’t been to Telluride yet, then you still have not seen the prettiest place you will ever ski. Don’t take our word for it, see for yourself! Every top-ten list of scenic ski area includes Telluride, and every top list of ski runs also includes the “See Forever” run at Telluride. Once thought of as a mecca for experts only, Telluride has been hard at work transforming into the perfect mountain for everyone. Those of us who just want to ski the easy stuff have plenty of space to relax and take in the amazing scenery. Located 65 miles south of Montrose airport (MTJ), Telluride is a ski resort that traverses two box canyons and has grown over the years to nearly 2,000 skiable acres. Telluride has plenty of powder, tree skiing and steeps. This is the terrain that many people have come to associate with Telluride Ski Resort, but 60% of the mountain is beginner or intermediate terrain. Telluride’s remoteness is also what makes the resort special. Weekend warrior skiers from the big cities don’t get there by car! This makes Telluride a more out-of-the-way, full-service ski resort with exceedingly short lift lines. Trip Includes: Package Includes: Roundtrip American Airline flight from Chicago to Montrose, CO Roundtrip ground transportation: Montrose Airport to Telluride (90 minutes) 5-night accommodations at Telluride Mountainside Inn 2 people per bedroom/bath with kitchenette 4 days skiing/riding at Telluride Ski Resort Group dinner or Pizza Party

RECIPE

Pasta with Roasted Summer Vegetable

INGREDIENTS

• 1-1/4 lbs (2 pints) cherry or grape tomatoes, halved • 4 shallots, thinly sliced • 5 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil, plus more for serving • 2 teaspoons salt • 1-1/2 teaspoons sugar • 1 medium zucchini, cut into 1/4-inch chunks • 1-1/2 cups fresh corn kernels, from 2 ears corn • 12 oz fusilli (or similar shape) pasta • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter • 1 teaspoon herbes de Provence (see note) • 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes • 1/2 cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese, plus more for serving • 1/2 cup tightly packed basil leaves, roughly chopped • 1/3 cup pine nuts, toasted (see note) INSTRUCTIONS Preheat the oven to 450°F. Line a baking sheet with heavy duty aluminum foil. Combine the tomatoes, shallots, garlic, olive oil, salt, and sugar on the prepared baking sheet. Toss with your hands or a rubber spatula until the vegetables are evenly coated. Arrange the vegetables in a single layer and roast for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the tomatoes are just starting to brown. Remove the pan from the oven and add the zucchini and corn. Toss with a rubber spatula (the tomatoes will collapse; that's okay) and spread into and even layer. Roast for 5 minutes more, until the zucchini and corn are tender-crisp. Meanwhile, cook the pasta in salted water until al dente. drain, then add the pasta back to the pan. Add the roasted vegetables and all their juices to the pasta, along with the butter, herbes de Provence, red pepper flakes, Pecorino Romano, basil, and pine nuts. Toss well, then taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Spoon into pasta bowls and drizzle with olive oil, if desired. Serve with more grated cheese. Note: Herbes de Provence can be found in the spice section of your supermarket. Most markets carry it but if you can't find it, dried thyme may be substituted. Note: To toast the pine nuts, put them in a dry skillet and cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently, until golden in spots, about 3 minutes.
