Girls on the Run is a program dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. The curriculum includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large. Below is a survey that will be used to gather a list of girls interested in participating in Girls on the Run. This DOES NOT sign your daughter up for this activity. Official enrollment takes place in August. We simply want to know if there is enough interest in this pro- gram to implement it this fall at SFA. Currently, we anticipate having a 6th-8th grade session from Sep. 4th to Nov. 11th. If we have interest and volunteers interested in coaching a 3rd-5th group, we will consider this program for our 3rd- 5th grade students. Completing this survey is not a commitment to participate. Groups are limited to 15 girls. https://goo.gl/a99w9G The day that our Second Graders prepared and waited for had finally arrived! March 11, at the 1:00 Mass was a great moment in these children’s lives. They re- ceived Jesus in the Holy Eucharist for the first time. Father Jarrod involved them in the homily by having them stand around the altar holding hands, telling them that they can help each other see Jesus’ light by being that light to one another. All it takes is walking Hand in Hand with Our Lord. First Communion is the first step in achiev- ing that. The children looked like little brides and grooms dressed in their white dresses and fancy suits and ties. Jesus gives Himself to them in Communion just as a Bride and Groom do on their wedding day. Afterwards, children expressed the joy they felt and excitement in continuing this journey with Our Lord.

The day that our Second Graders prepared and waited for had finally arrived! March 11, at the 1:00 Mass was a great moment in these children’s lives. They re-ceived Jesus in the Holy Eucharist for the first time. Father Jarrod involved them in the homily by having them stand around the altar holding hands, telling them that they can help each other see Jesus’ light by being that light to one another. All it takes is walking Hand in Hand with Our Lord. First Communion is the first step in achiev-ing that. The children looked like little brides and grooms dressed in their white dresses and fancy suits and ties. Jesus gives Himself to them in Communion just as a Bride and Groom do on their wedding day. This year’s theme was Llama, Llama based off the Anna Dewdney book series. Our evening was a huge suc-cess. This year, we invited new students as well as current preschool students. We were blessed to have sixty-five stu-dents in attendance. One special perk for coming, each stu-dent received their own selected new Llama Book to take home. Throughout the evening, we had several fun rotations. The kids played games, made Llama projects to take home, played Llama games at our IPAD Station, cookie decorating and special organized story time with Mrs. Wescott. This event is a great opportunity to meet other families and do something individually with your child. Our annual event is a must do if you are blessed to be in our program now or in the future. Invest in the best for your child! Sincerely, Mrs. O’Connor and Mrs. Edwards

Holy Week is the richest span of liturgical tradition in the Catholic Church. While we remember the suffering of Christ, let's take a look at some of the history that makes the time leading up to Holy Week such a rich part of our tradition. Origins and Early Traditions of Holy Week The earliest mentions of Holy Week are from St. Denis, bishop of Alexandria

in the third century. During the fourth century St. John Chrysostom called it “great week” : “Not

that it has more days in it than other weeks, or that its days are made up of more hours than other days; but we call it great, because of the great mysteries which are then celebrated.”

In the early centuries of the Church, various civil laws forbade work during part or all of Lent.

St. Leo mentioned in a sermon that the Roman emperors had a long-standing practice of releasing prisoners during Holy Week as a secular mirror of the spiritual forgiveness granted to penitents at Easter.

Emperor Justinian, while maintaining the laws forbidding the courts to be open during Holy Week and the week after, made an exception that any-one who wanted to free a slave during this time wouldn't violate any laws by doing so.
