The Flying Squirrel by: Justin Wilson

How do they fly?

• A lot of people think they can just go fly, but they cannot. They actually have an extra flap of skin. They can glide for more than 70 meters. The flaps of skin are called patagia.

The rodents

• The flying squirrel is a rodent. They are NOT a rare creature. They are nocturnal. They do most of their flying at night . They look kind of like a kite when they fly because the pataiga falls out like a kite.

A little bit of research

• There are forty three (43) different kinds of the flying squirrels. The normal height to jump for a flying squirrel is over one hundred (100) feet. The longest and the farthest one has ever jumped is in 2.5 miles before drifting down.

Where are they???

• They live mostly in the northern America and Canada.

What do they eat?

• They like to eat small bird eggs to gain protein only when they just had a baby. They can be carnivores. They also like nuts and other stuff that a regular squirrel would eat.
