Imprisonment of 12 months to 5 years and/or a fine of R500 000 - R5 000 000 can be imposed on any person using “jammers”.

Looking closely at the previous information, it is clear that radio users should comply with ICASA regula-tions to avoid penalties. This is how the FNA follows ISACA regulations: An annual licence fee is paid. A detailed database is being held of each person

who owns a radio in the FICH-Net radio network –therefore no FNA member may purchase a ra-dio with FICH-Net frequencies from anybody and also may not sell a radio to anyone without notifying FICH-Net management. One member who owns two radios may also not loan one of the two radio’s to a non-member.

Members are monitored. The radios of those, who do not qualify to utilise the FICH-Net frequencies any more, are taken in and are deprogrammed. If a person resigns, relocate or is in arrears with the FNA levy, such person may not utilise the frequen-cies and can be prosecuted if the radio is not sub-mitted to be deprogrammed.

The FNA adds value ... Each FNA member and member of the public should take note of the Electronic Communication Act of 2005 to avoid transgression of the law, whether conscious or unconsciously; this in regard to the FICH-Net radio network. ICASA regulates radio frequencies in South Africa. Their service includes broadcasting, viz. radio, TV, and the postal services.

1. LICENSING: No person may possess a radio without a license.

(The FNA is a registered licensee). The authority may enter a property to investi-

gate radio apparatus. The authority will seal an illegal radio to prevent

usage or they can issue a permit for a definite or indefinite period.

The authority may seize illegal apparatus.

2. APPROVAL FROM AUTHORITY: No person may utilise, provide, sell, purchase or

lease a radio without approval from the authori-ty.

3. OFFENCES AND PENALTIES:

The offences and penalties below are applicable w.e.f. 1 April 2015: Any person who contravenes these Regulations,

is liable to a fine not exceeding R200 000, i.e. when a person uses crude language.

A fine of R50 000 - R100 000 can be imposed on any person who uses illegal frequencies.

Imprisonment of 6 months to 2 years and/or a fine between R250 000 - R5 000 000 can be im-posed on any person who is convicted of using apparatus which was sealed or is in possession of scanners.

Recycling day: 16/9/2017 The collection of E-Waste is increasing year on year. Even residents of other neighbourhoods are support-ing the project. We thank Broll, Pick ‘n Pay Hyper, ADT, Creative Kilo-watt, Green Waste, FS E-Waste, Shell Fichardt Park service station, Tuffy, Ina Faber & Johanna Venter for sponsorships provided. A word of thanks is extended to all the Fichardt Park residents who support us. The total mass of recyclable products collected from 1 October 2016 to 31 July 2017, amounts to 245 962 kg. This equals about 8 huge, heavy vehi-cles!!! An amount of R1050 will be forwarded to the Draught Emergency fund.

Contact Rehan/Henrie tte Botha of FS E-Waste (082 895 2678) if you want to recycle E-waste. Contact Zirk (076 073 0360) for recyclable products.

Watermeters in FP The FNA is receiving enquiries regarding the installa-tion of the watermeters in Fichardt Park. Herewith clarity regarding the light blue and dark blue covers: The light blue cover means the the property has a 15 mm (½ inch) connection and the dark blue cover means the property has a 20 mm (¾ inch) connection. If your current meter has an inlet of 20 mm, the new meter should also have a 20 mm inlet. If your current meter has an inlet of 15 mm, it can be replaced by a 15 mm inlet OR you can request a 20 mm inlet to be installed. The owner of the property should ask the contractors what the cost implication will be regarding this change.
