THE TURTLE FOUNTAINA popular Roman legend claims that Duke Muzio Mattei ordered this fountain to be built overnight in order to win the trust of the wealthy father of a woman he wished to marry. His future father in law, however, wasn’t impressed and didn’t allow the marriage to go ahead. The Duke then decided to destroy the fountain but the girl persuaded him not to do so in memory of their failed love.

cturesque little restaurants and coffee bars. Santa Pudenziana, the first Christian chur-ch in Rome, was built on this road.
