Page 2: The fusion alternative

This project is basically about the innovation of a new technology regarding electricity generation

It is the fusion of two prevailing technologies i.e.

1. the wind energy

2. the tidal energy.

Page 3: The fusion alternative

A vertical tube with a large diameter, is placed just over the sea level

It has a turbine on its one end

Other end of the tube will submerged in water

As the water level of the sea moves up and down, the air column inside the tube performs its to and fro motion which rotates the dynamo which can be used to produce energy.

Page 4: The fusion alternative

The water column moves up and down and acts like a piston on the air, pushing it back and forth

Due to the motion of the air column the turbine on the top of the tube rotates

And which in turn rotates the dynamo which leads to the generation of the electricity

As we know power generated by turbine is:

Power =density of air * swept area*velocity

cubed/2

P =1/2.p.A.(V*V*V)

where, P is power in watts(W)

p is the air density in(kg/m cube)

A is the swept rotor area in (m squar)

V is the wind speed in (m/s)

Page 8: The fusion alternative

If we take the avg. value of air density in the costal areas, we find it is around 1.204 kg/m3

at 298k

And radius of blades is 0.50meter

From a survey we find that the average value of wind speed is 1.5 m/s

By calculation the power we can get 67kWhr per day if efficiency is 40% and if we take the system to work for 14 hrs

Page 9: The fusion alternative

This can be used to generate electricity in mainly costal areas of India and islands

It can help to tackle the prevailing energy crisis in many undeveloped and developing countries

Predictable source of energy (compared with wind & solar), it is independent of weather & climate change

Easy to install and cheap(compared with wind & solar)

Page 10: The fusion alternative

Highly efficient during only 14 hrs approximately for the rest hrs high tide and low tides may disturb the functioning

The tides are not so much efficient in all over sea , so system should be installed near sea coast

Page 11: The fusion alternative

Tidal energy is the most attractive method, having reduced environmental & ecological impacts and being cheaper & quicker installation

Still we did not utilize Tidal energy very much so it’s a startup to use in a new manner
