CEO’s Message
At the Al Ahli Holding Group, the year that went by has been quite fruitful. We have managed to not only carve a niche in the business-es that are our backbones – like steel, manufacturing, plastics, construction and engineering, but have also created historical path-ways into the world of entertain-ment and hospitality.
Following our founder’s vision, we at Al Ahli Holding Group have had a history of employing innovative ways to expand and diversify our line of industries and eventually penetrate new business fields and enter new markets.
Two recent projects that we pride ourselves in were the opening of the world’s largest comics and collectibles store, Comicave at our Outlet Mall and the launch of Alahli Publishing and Distribution, which deals in renowned pop culture comic books in the Arabic language. We also started Comi-cave Studios, a brand that has already raised an excitement in the toy making industry across geogra-phies.
While entertainment was the buzzword throughout the last year, 2015 kick started with the announcement of the Little Manila project in the Food and Beverages business segment, followed by the setting up of two event manage-ment companies for large scale entertainment events. We also announced our very own Comic Con event series that will dominate the second half of this year.
One common binding factor in all of our recent successes was our large pool of talent across various subsidiaries. You, the employees of Al Ahli Holding Group have come together as one strong unit to chart record breaking triumphs and create history in UAE in the last few years.
With this in mind, it only felt right to have a common platform where all of us can unwind and engage in light hearted and yet entertaining conversations. This internal group newsletter will aim at updating all our employees with the recent happenings, the latest buzz across the group and help us all transition towards a better and informed future – together.
This effort of ours is directed in the way of consolidating all our updates and latest happenings and put it together for employees to take pride in. Further, AAHG Insider is going to be a medium where we together take pride in our hard work, applaud the efforts of our employees aross the board, announce the upcoming attractions and also share the lessons we’ve learnt.
AAHG Insider is also an effort in the right direction for a conglomerate like ours to bond with our various businesses and industries to streamline our corporate portfolio, in a bid to bring all our 27 subsidiaries, across 20 countries closer and under one umbrella.

EditorialDear AAHG Team,
At the Al Ahli Holding Group, we believe that communication forms an integral part of corporate business. Through the medium of this internal newsletter, we want to reach out to all our employees across geographies and wish to establish a concrete bridge of communication that helps all of us understand and remain updated with the happenings of the diversified and dynamic business conglomerate that we are a proud part of. In today’s fast paced world where social media is taking the lead in communication, it is necessary as an organisation that we keep pace with new trends and use this technology to connect our company employees together. Corporate communication has two faces – one is the external communication where a major organisation puts out certain information in the public domain through press, media and other digital platforms. Meanwhile, the other integral and often ignored section of corporate communication involves internal communication channels.
In this first edition of the internal newsletter, we have put together two major features. One that is a round up of our achievements from the year gone by, including the inauguration of Comicave which is soon becoming a must visit attraction in Dubai; and the second feature that is a summary in action of our achievements from the first quarter of this new year. In Q1 ’15 too we chartered accomplishments that sure deserve a pat on the back for all our various subsidiaries.
After our successful announce-ments of Asia Pop Comic Con and Little Manila concept that will be launched across different regions, we are further enhancing the AAHG brand on the international map with major activities. We have moved together on the growth chart through the tie-up with leading Hollywood studio – Marvel, to unveil our Ironman collectibles on the Hollywood red carpet for the world premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron in Los Angeles, USA.
Our new subsidiary Alahli Publishing and Distribution is being launched across different platforms as you read this newsletter. It is once again another milestone to become the first ever company outside the USA to publish international comic books in English, Arabic and Persian. It has been a good quarter and we are heading towards bigger and better events, with a team of highly talented employees. This form of internal communica-tion, along with many other such initiatives that are currently in the pipeline, will further strengthen the bonds within and between each individual team that when put together form the strong pillars of the Al Ahli Holding Group. I sincerely believe that every employ-ee is AAHG’s brand ambassador and please play your part in enhancing the brand image that will only add to the Group’s brand equity at local, regional and international levels.

ISSUE 1 | Q1’15Cover Story
IN 2014 DREAMS WERE REALISED…Ask the insiders and they’ll narrate a story that began with dreams… big, fantastical, dramatic dreams. Little did they know, that this very dream would fill them up with such invigor-ating passion, albeit dipped in a tinge of their own blood and sweat – that living to tell the tale seemed like a distant dream. But 2014 was the year that this dream – Comicave, was realised. Not only will the year 2014 be remembered as a red letter day for the group, but the memories of the grand opening bring a smile to every proud employee of this organisation.
LIFESTYLES WERE REVAMPED…On the other hand, our employees at Gold’s Gym UAE returned with their most impressive contest of the year – Fat to Fit, but this time on a bigger scale. It was as if the fitness giant had decided that the bigger the weight losses, the bigger the award and so in 2014, both members and non-members joined in the challenge. Another feather in the cap for GGI was the successful sponsorship of Zumba Master Class by Beto Perez at Abu Dhabi – in a bid to support the Abu Dhabi Centre of Autism.
GLAMOURCAME ALIVE…AAHG’s Dubai Outlet Mall (DOM) is filled with glitz, glamour and events round the year… But memorable moments were those where customers walked out with huge smiles. Be it the Star Hunt 2014, where young modeling aspirants were crowned after rigorous training sessions – or the Dubai Shopping Festival 2014 that witnessed the hottest discounts of the year and stunning inflow of customers, all walking out with wide plastered smiles.
However, what made us the happiest were the festivities and celebrations that lit up the mall, each time with a décor that lifted customer spirits and also invited positivity in our hearts. Starting with Norooz and Eid, and then Ramadan, Christmas and the grand new year bash! DOM celebrated royally. Oh and we also forgot how we painted the skies with rainbow colours… at the DOM Kite Festival last year.
Sneak a peek into all our proud moments…

Feature Story
At the Dubai Outlet Mall, the quarter not only started with a cheer, it ended with a smile too. While the New Year and Christmas mood lingered in the mall space, not letting the holiday mood pass by too soon… it was all too close on heels of a big fat competition. But before the annual Star Hunt 2015 came the Dubai Shopping Festival. Customers were drawn not only to the unbeata-ble discounts, but returned home with bags full of prizes. Records were broken this year, with footfalls and raffle draw participant numbers soaring. Meanwhile, the Star Hunt put to test not only the participants but also our efforts at every stage and the victory of two of the top finalists – indeed reflected our hard work, efforts and sleepless nights that went into add the glitz in this event of glamour! The quarter ended with the Norooz celebrations, an event of peace and joy, close to all our hearts.
This quarter was also filled with big revenues, bigger projects and a myriad of offerings… One of our leading subsidiaries, Emirates Engineering Services & Factories began work on not just a big ware-house facility but also has a large showroom project in the pipeline…
Meanwhile, our Food and Beverages department set foot into Philippines this January to officially announce to the world what was brewing in the kitchens of their minds for so long. Lo and BEHOLD! Little Manila was launched…
And if you wanted to relax after that scrumptious meaty bit of information, here’s more: We also launched Alahli Publishing and Distribution (APD), where we not only have magazines and comic books by top studios being published in English – but Arabic too… A moment of pride ’Twas! Oh? Tired of all the toil, work and reading – Head to our Gold’s Gym Ladies Spa that is now offering 50% off for all AAHG employees…

Now you might want some entertainment, won’t you? Fret not! AAHG has delved into the world of entertainment and events in a big way… Asia Pop Comic Con is round the corner and preparations have already begun for the Manila event. And with our own in-house event auditorium coming up, our partnership with DONE Events to put together events with an international caliber will soon bear results.
For Gold’s Gym on the other hand, it was a quarter filled with laurels. Not only did we honor our employees, but we also narrated inspirational stories of our members’ success through a special campaign. We cheered along with our four clubs that celebrated their anniversaries and got busy working alongside our other clubs that are gearing up to take a victory lap of completing another year in the next quarter. Pssst… There’s a buzz around that indicates towards something big happening soon… we of course can’t tell you just yet… Sshhh!

ISSUE 1 | Q1’15What’s Trending Now?
March was also the month we connected with our colleagues in the USA, at the Rethink Leisure & Entertainment office. Starting off with the inspiring story of AAHG’s growth over the last four decades, Abdulla Mahmood engaged the Rethink staff with his spin on the corporate marketing strategies and social media marketing.
The Rethink office in California has a day called ‘The Brown Bag Day’ dedicated for employees to hear and learn from management speakers, either in-house or successful honchos from the industry. With the idea of nurturing the inquisitive side of an employee, the company each month hosts a speaker to deliver an informative and educational talk that would not only provide some mental nourishment, but would also add the de-stressing element in the employee’s lives.
It was his Triple-E mantra of corporate social media success that got Rethink team involved in an engaging discussion.
“Social media and marketing one’s product/brand on this medium involves content that needs to be Educative, Engaging and Entertaining, which is my Triple-E formula to success”, shared with our colleagues at Rethink Leisure & Entertainment. Loaded with real life success stories and concepts that have clicked, he spoke about the current role of social media marketing in day to day business across the globe.

The prestigious 21st Themed Entertainment Awards (TEA) that was held on 21st March, 2015 saw Mr Stefan Lawrence, creative director, Rethink Leisure and Entertainment, one of our subsidiaries based in Los Angeles making headlines last quarter. He was presenting the award for the best themed restaurant to a table-service restaurant concept at the Walt Disney Studios Park, Bistrot Chez Remy, based in Disneyland Paris.
Inspired by the scenes and recipes of the Disney-Pixar film Ratatouille, this 370-seater table-service restaurant serves French bistro cuisine and has been built by the lovable rat Remy and his friends, so that the guests are rat-sized when they dine. Do google them, you are sure to get dazzled by their concept.
ISSUE 1 | Q1’15Towards Betterment
Moving Ahead In Our Social DutiesOur CSR division focuses on the four major areas of entrepreneurship (global business opportunities), CSR development (CSR in action), social entrepreneurship (business for a cause), and capacity building (global youth forum/internships).
In many of their programs, young participants get a chance to interact with top business and academic leaders from various participating countries. Through these programs they bridge the gap between the Arab region and other cultures and promote constructive dialogue between the Arab leaders of tomorrow and the rest of the world.
The division is currently being spearheaded by Ms. Lina Hourani, who along with her team has successfully concluded many rewarding programs. The Global Business Opportunities program (GBO) is one amongst the top programs implemented. The team has through their tie-ups also translated the group’s vision into action by running youth development programs across 4 different continents benefiting youth from UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Greece, and the UK.
Inspiration can come in many ways, for AAHG it comes through the years of dedicated hard work put in by our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) division to better the society we all live in, and sometimes even beyond that.
AAHG was one of the first organisations in the region that leaped forward towards establishing a full-fledged CSR wing and since then there has been no turning back. Set up in the year 2008, our CSR wing has been conducting several program and launching initiatives with a one-minded vision to become a leading example for how an active private sector CSR division should be like in the UAE and the Arab World.
The division aims at empowering the Arab youth through inculcating skill development, widening the horizons and providing exposure to the youth in the society. The CSR department believes that this is possi-ble using the power of partnership and co-operation with different organisations. It has joined hands with many governmental and non-governmental organisa-tions to create the business leaders of tomorrow.

Towards standardization: Al Ahli Plastic Industries
IMPRINTED: Al Ahli Printing & Publishing
Al Ahli Plastic Team Al Ahli Printing & Publishing Team
One of the pioneering subsidiary of AAHG, Al Ahli Plastic Industries has formed the group’s backbone for several years now, in which it has won many laurels too.
Established in Fujairah in the year 2000, the company had within two years of its inception achieved tremendous growth by reaching production capacity of 20,000 tons per annum. Diversification was the key to further growth, employees recall and mention that the compa-ny’s Al Hayl factory in Fujairah has a built-up area of 12,500 sq meters, housing hi-tech machinery from leading European manufacturers.
Over the years, the company has formulated a strong vision of delivering high quality and competitively priced products with a focus on reliable service and timely delivery.
In the year 2014, the company charted further success and today is the second largest in the UAE market, in terms of capacity for flexible packaging.
API handled quite a few important projects in the year gone by, including projects for multinational companies like Nestle, Brazil Food, Kraft Food, DHL, and Americana amongst others.
Alongside, in 2014 through till the first quarter of 2015, the company attained ISO, HACCP, BRC and SEDEX certifications for quality production and service that accredited API to attract international customers.
Our subsidiary Al Ahli Printing & Publishing, in the last few years has emerged as one of the most sought after services, with the cost perspective in place. The company has through its high quality printing press, managed to accomplish many projects, not just for AAHG, but also for clients from across the region, including several projects from governmental agencies.
Amongst the top projects that APP has been handling successfully for AAHG are the printing of Dubai Outlet Mall magazine for the last five years and another monthly magazine – The Fujairah Observer that has been in print with APP since 2004. AAHG sends out a loud cheer to this subsidiary for its unfailing dedication to churn out quality work!
Mr. Ibrahim Kutty
Moments of nostalgia
Long hours injected with quality work, understanding of various processes and a divine passion towards work – these were the traits that defined Mr. Ibrahim Kutty.
Mr. Kutty who served the Al Ahli Holding Group for over three decades has ended his long tenure with this company and we would like to thank him for his endless hard work and lessons he taught those whose paths he crossed.
For over 30 years, Mr. Kutty handled various roles of marketing, logistics, sales and purchasing for our subsidiary Rabea Al Khaleej Trading Establishment, and came to be recognized as a man with most answers to logistics issues that the company faced.
People he worked with remember him as an enterprising individual who would go out of his way to resolve your problems and always had a soothing smile on his face.
AAHG and its team of employees across subsidiaries would like to give Mr. Ibrahim Kutty a heartfelt congratulations on completing milestone years of service towards this company and hopes that his honest service continues to inspire others within this organisation.

Rethink Technology Team
Standing tall on three strong pillars of infrastructure, support and devel-opment, our subsidiary Rethink Technologies employs 24 highly efficient technically knowledgeable employees who work endlessly to serve one client – AAHG.
The company has a total of 20 employees at its Dubai headquar-ters and four at its Fujairah office. For over the last year and a half, Rethink has been upgrading the overall digital capacity and capability of AAHG and its various subsidiaries, led by Mr. Abdulla Kolthoum, who along with his team shares a great passion for understanding and getting acquainted with latest global technological trends.
In the last year, Rethink has charted several accomplishments, apart from providing seamless day-to-day support for our staff members. In 2014, Rethink provided a compre-hensive point-of-sales solution for our Food and Beverages team, it also provided a temporary point-of-sales solution for Comicave.
Further, as part of its ongoing 2014-15 projects it created a track-ing portal for Alahli Publishing and Distribution and three mobile apps for Gold’s Gym, along with an android mobile app for Dubai Outlet Mall.
Assisting the CEO of a multi-diversi-fied conglomerate can certainly be a nerve-racking experience, but there is no tense moment at the CEO’s office in the Dubai headquarters of AAHG.
A large part of this is because of Ms. Zahra Harrouch, who has over the last few years lit up the place with a cheery atmosphere. Always on her toes with a cheerful personality and willing to assist people from different subsidiaries, all this has made Zara the top go-to person this quarter.
