Gamma Omicron hosted the Second Annual USOlympics on Sunday, April 6. More than 100 competitors competed in various field day activities to raise money for the USO (United Service Organization), a nonprofit organization that provides programs, services and live entertainment to United States troops and their families.
“The chapter raised more than $1,000 to support the troops,” reported Matt Brady, ΓΟ 2292. “Everyone who participated had a great time. It was a great way to spend Sunday afternoon.”
Lambda Chi Alpha hosted the inaugural Greek Frozen Four Hockey Tournament on the weekend of April 12-13, 2014, at Suburban Ice East Lansing. The tournament was created to benefit Lacey Holsworth and her family.
Lacey was an 8-year-old girl who became friends with Michigan State basketball star Adreian Payne during one of her hospital stays. She was a huge Spartans fan and became an inspiration to the team. Lacey lost her battle with neuroblastoma on April 8, 2014.
Four fraternities participated in the tournament and Lambda Chi Alpha placed second. The event raised more than $3,000 to be donated to The Children’s Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation. The Children’s Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation (CNCF) is a non-profit national health organization committed to finding a cure for neuroblastoma through research, education, awareness and advocacy.

21 Early Donors Contribute to the 2014 Annual Campaign for Lambda ChiContributions support alumni communications program & events
Thanks to the 21 donors listed below, Lambda Chi Alpha at Michigan State University has raised $2,975 for the 2014 Annual Campaign for Lambda Chi. Donations to the campaign go towards creating an effective alumni communications program and supporting alumni and recruitment events.
“This newsletter, the new alumni website at www.msulambdachi.org and managing the alumni database are part of the new alumni communications program,” stated Marcus Belanger, ΓΟ 2095, housing committee president.
“The alumni association supports the Chapter as it plans its annual alumni social events including the golf outing, homecoming tailgate and the spring ‘Alumni Mixer’. In addition, annual alumni contributions will be used to cover mailing costs and to support chapter leadership training for actives at the General Assembly and Local Conclaves. This is independent of the capital campaign, whose funds are restricted solely for the housing project.”
Alumni are encouraged to support the 2014 Annual Campaign for Lambda Chi today. All pledges may be paid monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or as a one-time gift. In order to make the payment process as easy as possible, you can set your pledge to be automatically drafted from your checking account or charged to a credit card on a recurring basis. Please make your pledge today by visiting www.msulambdachi.org and clicking “Support the Campaign.”

Alumni Spotlight: Albert Fracassa, ΓΟ 751 Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Albert Fracassa, ΓΟ 751 received the first ever 2014 Gamma Omicron Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award.
Albert Fracassa was raised in Detroit, Michigan and attended Northeastern High School. In 1951, he received a scholarship to play football at Michigan State University. Fracassa played quarterback but is most remembered for his scouting ability. He was able to mimic any offense, leading to numerous wins and the team’s success. He was a member of the 1952 National Championship Team and the 1954 Rose Bowl team. He also received the Fred Danziger Award in 1954 in recognition of outstanding contributions to the MSU football team.
Fracassa joined Lambda Chi Alpha during his junior year at Michigan State. “I was a member of the Ritual Committee,” explained Fracassa, “and really enjoyed it. I learned so much. I also enjoyed the camaraderie and brotherhood at 128 Collingwood. Whenever I was in need, someone helped.”
After college, Fracassa married Phyllis Secontine. He began his teaching and coaching career in the fall of 1955 as an assistant coach at Flint Mandeville High School. He spent two years in the United States Army (1956-57), before moving to Rochester High School. In 1960 he became head football coach at Royal Oak Shrine, where he stayed for eight years. Fracassa moved to Brother Rice High School in 1969 and stayed there for 45 years. With a career record of 332-91-7, Fracassa is the winningest coach in the history of Michigan High School Football.
“Coach Fracassa instilled character and discipline in his players, coaches and anyone else who was around him long enough,” stated active Brother and Brother Rice HS alumnus Kristian Wosik. “He is one of a kind - a strong man with a soft heart, who is humble of all his achievements.”
Fracassa retired from Brother Rice High School in May 2014. He and Phyllis have four children and seven grandchildren.
