David Healy met with Dr. Colien Hefferan,Director of the US National Arboretum, and fourothers at the arboretum on May 8.

He reports the good news thatNational Capital Area GardenClubs, Inc., and District I can eachhold two meetings a year rent freebut subject to user fees.

Our meetings generally do notrequire additional security or

staffing, he said. So the userfees will be limited to janitorialand perhaps utility costs.

He reports the fees are being worked on, but heanticipates they will be in the $100-to-$200 range.

In addition, he said, late this summer weshould regain access to the Arbor House basementas a use-free venue for some meetings. Theproblem with that venue is the stairs would be animpediment to a member with mobility issues andthe basement has been known to flood.
