We are looking forward to connecting with our Gibson families this month for our Virtual Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences on the evening of November 12th and during the day on November 13th. Starting today, you will be invited to book your time slot in Edsby and the shedule will close on Nov. 11th at 5 pm. You will receive a separate email when the schedule opens today.
Virtual conferences will be 15 minutes long and families will be invited to book a conference time through Edsby, beginning on Monday, November 2nd. All families will receive an email to alert them when the schedule is open on Edsby. If you have not registered for Edsby, please contact the office and we will re-send you an invite; OR feel free to call the office, or your child’s homeroom teacher, and we will be happy to book a time for you.
Telephone conferences are also available for families and can take place during the week of Nov. 9 – 13. If you would like to request a telephone conference, please contact your child’s teacher directly.
Special Education, French, Music and other subject area teachers will also be available on these dates. Please contact these teachers directly if you would like to speak with them regarding your child’s progress.
Just a reminder that Progress Report Cards will be sent home electronically AFTER the Parent/Teacher/Student Conference days on Nov. 19th and 20th.

Family Math - Problem of the Week
With the new Math Curriculum and the addition of new strands (Financial Literacy and Social Emotional Learning Skills and Mathematical Process), we will be working with our students using the T.A.C. K. Problem Solving Model. We encourage our families to use this same model when working with their children to solve the Family Math Problem of the Week which will be featured in each edition of the Gazette. Enjoy your first Family Math Problem of the Week:
The tower shown is made of identical blocks stacked on top of each other. Some of the blocks are not visible. How many blocks were used in all to make the tower? Try to solve this problem by finding blocks in your own house and trying to search for the solution. A possible solution will be shared in the next Gibson Gazette.
Renewed Computer Technology Program Continues As part of a partnership between YRDSB and Renewed Computer Technology (RCT), families with children enrolled in our Board will have the opportunity to purchase quality refurbished computers at a reduced cost ($60 or $200). A flyer in multiple translations was sent to families earlier this month. If you have any questions, feel free to
contact Miss Paulette in the office.
I.B. Programme Information for Grade 8s The International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme is student-centred with a focus on developing intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills for students who live, learn and work in a rapidly changing world. The Programme emphasizes critical, compassionate thinking, community involvement and intercultural understanding. It is founded on international standards and assessment. Students who complete the Programme earn both an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and an IB Diploma. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity for your child, please see the attached flyer.
Gibson Spirit Day Fridays
To show our ongoing Gibson Gators spirit, every Friday is Spirit Wear Day. All staff and students are invited to wear their Gibson clothing or our school colours - black, grey and/or maroon on that
day to show their school spirit.

Invest-In-Students DONATION DRIVE Extended
Thank you to the Joseph A. Gibson families that have already contributed to our Invest-in-Student Donation Drive. We have decided to extend it for one more week as we aim to get
to our next incentive of $3000. Donations can still be made on School Cash Online or by filling out the Donation Drive Form that is available from the office. All money raised will go towards supporting Gibson programs in the 3 A’s – Academics, Arts and Athletics in addition to our yearly commitment of updating student computer technology.
