Can Santa Find the Gilroys? Unbelievable! The chimney fell off! Amy was home by herself the first week of December with a big wind blowing outside. She heard some bumping noises, then a big crash in the backyard. Thinking … well she didn’t know what to think. She ran to the back window. There lay the chimney – smack dab on top of a smashed patio table and chairs. Dumbfounded, she called Mark who was boarding a flight for India – another story. He was equally dumbfounded. She next called a neighbor who said, “I bet that hot air balloon that landed on your chimney a few weeks ago knocked it loose and the wind blew it off.” Mystery solved. But one big question persists: “Why did a hot air balloon land on our roof?” Well, new chimney and patio furniture are coming – but Santa couldn’t slide down the chimney this year!

Keeping Up! Yes, it’s been seven years since we last published the Gilroy Gazette. Too busy? Witness protection? A little lazy? Take your pick!

Even if we haven’t done very well in keeping up, we still love to stay in touch with our friends through email, facebook, that antiquated system run by the US Postal Service, called “mail,” and even real life visits. Come see us! We moved to Nashville in 2006 and can be reached at:

Lindsey & Tomasz

Merrick Merrick is now a senior at DePaul University with

a major in Environmental Architecture. Take one part community planning, a dash of government policies, throw in the concept of “more sustainable” lifestyles and you’re getting close. He has had internships with Mayor Daley’s office and a hip hop record label. Graphic designer, waiter, writer – he can do it all! He is spending Christmas in Germany with his friend George and family. What’s after graduation? Rumor has it a trip around the world. But Merrick will be sure to surprise us!

Ashley Ashley graduated from SMU with big plans to find a job in New York City where she did her internships with Glamour and Women’s Wear Daily. Well she made it to the Big Apple but instead of finding a job she started two companies that keep her busy and traveling the world. She owns a jewelry line and a growing fashion company (www.bybindi.com). Loves living in NYC with her “baby” Marley – a loveable mix of lab and something else! Her boyfriend Michael is also an SMU grad and is an entrepreneur who always has something new in the marketplace! The Houston native is also an accomplished artist.

After returning to her birthplace for college, Lindsey graduated from Northwestern (undergrad) and University of Illinois (grad school) – and married a wonderful young man, Tomasz Czajka. The happy couple bought their first home in Evanston, Illinois, this year. Tomasz works in Evanston and Lindsey commutes downtown to her office in the Loop. In a theme that will be repeated throughout – the couple loves to travel and are usually plotting their next trip – the only question is usually mountains or beach? Tomasz immigrated to the US from Poland with his family as teenager. He is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology and Purdue (grad school). He is a holiday legend with the Gilroys for introducing the game Settlers of Catan.

Caroline Caroline is a senior at University of Tennessee (Knoxville) where she is finishing a degree in accounting. She has been a resident assistant for two years and is vice president of tri-Delta fraternity. This spring she joins Crowe Horwath as an audit intern and will live at home with mommy and daddy! Her plans are to study abroad in the summer (she’s already been to 18 countries) and then finish undergrad in the fall. From there it’s a master’s degree in accounting and the CPA exam! She is a runner and loves to play piano – she’s self taught – as long as no one is listening!

Bo

Bo is a sophomore at Samford University (Birmingham, AL) and is majoring in Entrepreneurial Studies. Though almost officially “retired” from football – after a great start he broke his leg third game of his senior year of high school – he has continued his athletic career as a college decathlete and was a top performer for the Bulldogs his freshman year, placing second in conference in decathlon. He’s appeared in numerous ads as a Ford Model – lots of quick flights from Birmingham! Loves being part of Campus Outreach and is strongly considering a beach ministry this summer – someone has to do it. Tight with his Sigma Nu brothers.

Zachary

Zachary is a sophomore at Ravenwood High School where he is active in football, track and socializing! He won AAU Indoor Nationals in 2010 – nice reward for his hard year-round work in that sport. He’s not absolutely “sold” on the idea of school work yet –and unfortunately has heard too many stories about his dad’s early academic career! Tons of friends – perhaps too many of them female – and active in Young Life.

THE GILROY GAZETTE WINTER 2010

Mark continues to run his own business as a “freelance publisher” for ministries, businesses, and retailers (www.markgilroy.com). Amy has flown for Delta Airlines for 32 years! Kids and husband won’t allow her to think about retiring due to the travel benefits! Both have celebrated recent 50th birthdays – and are healthy, happy, and grateful for many blessings! We wish you a blessed 2011!
