TTEEAACCHHEERRSS LLEEAADD::IInntteerrnnaattiioonnaall LLeeaaddeerrss iinnEEdduuccaattiioonn PPrrooggrraamm The ILEP, is a program of theBureau of Educational andCultural Affairs, US departmentof State. The programme providessecondary school teachers fromSoutheast Asia, Africa and LatinAmerica the opportunity to auditclasses and attend specializedseminars at US University. Theteachers also got to participate ina practical internship at a USsecondary school. A class X teacher from Amity International School, Noida wasselected from among the 18 otherteachers from 9 countries. Sheenrolled in the academic and theinternship program at NorthKentucky University from the 5thJan to 20th May 2010.This was across cultural exchange programand involved a lot of sharing andlearning, apart from acquaintingwith other cultures.

Successfully surmounting the hurdles ofAsian Regional Space SettlementDesign Competition (semi finals), an

annual competition sponsored by NASA &conducted by Atlantis Research, the AISspaceset team winners competed with 16other teams of the world at the finals in theUS. The finalists were clubbed with oneAustralian and 2 US teams under thecompany name Rockdonnell Aerospace andwere required to design a settlement on thesurface of Mars called Argonom. Thesettlement designed on the lines of inhabiting22,000 people in the year 2060 fetched greatreviews from the audience and the judgesAnita E Gale, a scientist, Boeing ShuttleDivision, USA and others. The Amitycompany was declared as the Runner’s Up.Set in the future, the competition is anindustry simulation for teams of high schoolstudents and aims at teaching industrialskills to the students. Odyssey of mind (OM) is aninternational educational competitiveprogram that offers creative problem-

solving opportunitiesfor students fromkindergarten throughcollege. The activitywas initiated inSeptember 2010 to putAmity Children’sScience Foundation,Delhi and India oninternational map ofCreative and innovative learning.The competition centers on 5 core problemsolving areas namely- ExtremeMousemobiles, As Good as Goldberg, Le TourGuide, Unhinged Structure and Full Circle. The same problem was assigned to all agegroups upto 17 years and required the teammembers to apply their creativity to solveproblems ranging from building mechanicaldevices to presenting their own interpretationof literary classics.Each team chose one problem and spendapproximately 6 months designing, testingand improving upon a solution,simultaneously practicing for a spontaneousproblem.

In each category (age group wise) the best 2projects were awarded with Gold and Silvermedals from OM India. In total 17 Amityteams met the eligibility criteria forparticipation in the World Fair and made thecut to the finals in May at the University ofMaryland, Virginia, USA.

WWhheenn:: April 25-30, 2011A team of twelve studentsaccompanied by Vice Principal, AISGurgaon Sec-43 and AERC headwent for cultural exchangeprogramme to Denmark. The students attended classes andvarious sessions at Sankt AnnaeGymnasium, a school world famousfor its choir. Staying with the hostfamilies was an amazingexperience for the students. They also visited LouisianaMuseum of Modern art, Humblaek,University of Copenhagen andEurope House to catch a glimpse oftheir tradition and culture.

Students of AISNoida played host families to the delegation. They hadthe special privilege of being invited as special gueststo watch the inaugural and valedictory functions ofAIMUN 2010, held in Amity University. During theirstay with host families, the delegates were exposed toIndian culture and developed a strong bonding with thehosts, thereby building a lifelong relationship.

The studentswere hosted by sixteen families from AIS Noida.

Hannah Schwarz, high schoolstudent from USA was the proud recipient of thisprestigious scholarship. The programme entitledteaching -reading, writing, listening and speakingskills in Hindi to enable the student to achieve anintermediate mid level(under the language testinginternational standards).Hannah was also involved in acommunity service program with students of Amitasha.
