• Mix of public and private.
• Medium to large.
• All R1 universities.
Shared Recruiting• Name exchanges
– Names from recruiting trips
– Our own undergraduates
– Our own PhDs ready to graduate
Shared Recruiting
• Common recruiting brochure
– Template with information for all members
– Blank space for each school to specialize
– Know each others strengths• recruit for alliance• direct potential students to best school• increase chances of success
Shared Recruiting
• New venues for recruiting – 18 midwest small liberal arts colleges
• Special programs:– Tuition scholarship for Fattah attendees with
1200 GRE who matriculate at Temple – possible adaptation at other members
– Possible application fee waivers for applications within alliance
Shared SROP Initiatives
• Search for and share new kinds of opportunities– e.g., Ohio State University connection to Law and
Criminal Justice Institute
• Possible shared, multi-year experiences – Students do two years at two institutions but working
on same research
• Alliance presence at SROP conferences– Group meetings between grads and undergrads from
across alliance– Joint presentations/discussions by alliance
Shared Workshops
• Joint sponsorship of video conferences– Temple – Diversity in Public Health– Wisconsin – Jobs in Library Science– U. Chicago (this spring) – Publishing
• Shared local workshops– Retention (statistics, writing)– Professional Development (how to negotiate the job)
• Alliance annual conference (planned)
