Message From Our President...

I hope you all agree that 2015 was a great year for the Glendale Coin Club and I think 2016 can be even better! We are lucky to have the ANA’s World’s Fair of Money in nearby Anaheim this August! Another great coin club medal is planned for 2016 and we have several interesting programs already scheduled too. That said, we are still looking for a few of our members to present programs this year, so please consider doing so. Finally, we will be having Show & Tell, Raffle and an Auction at the meeting so please bring some interesting items to share and to sell! See you all on Friday, Mike

I hope that you all had a wonderful Holiday and a Happy New Year’s! Thank you to everyone who made last month’s Christmas Party a great success! It was a great time for all and there were lots of prizes given out. The food brought by everyone was great, the Bingo games were fun and the special end of the year raffle was amazing, especially for those who won coins! See Pages 4 & 5 for all of the prize winners! This month, we are lucky to have a very interesting program which will be presented by Red Henry. I’m sure many of you will be able to guess the topic of Red’s program, even before you see the details which are found on Page 2.

This month, we will have a very special program by Red Henry on the History of Silver and Silver as an Investment. Red often shares his views on silver during our monthly show and tell, but through this program we will get a more in depth look at this precious metal that has been a favorite for coinage for thousands of years. Again, it’s great when we have programs done by our regular club members. Please let us know if you have an idea that you would like to present as a program to the club this year!

Holiday Party Prizes... BINGO Winners...

At the December Christmas Party we also played five games of BINGO for coin prizes. The winners of the first four games were: Connie Janson - 2016 Canada Maple Leaf Red Henry - 2016 Australia Kangaroo Luke Mitchell - 2016 British Britannia Dennis Berry - 2016 Australia Kookaburra Each person in attendance received one card for each bingo game to play at no charge. Additional cards were sold to those who wanted them for $1 each. Half of the funds raised through the sales of the extra bingo cards were retained by the club and the other half was added to the prize for the winner of the evening’s final game of bingo! An extra $37 was raised for the club. The winner of the final game of the night was James Feng taking home a Mexican Dos Pesos Gold and $37!

Over forty member attended our Holiday Party last month. As we did the prior year, the club gave out silver coins to each member attending (with a maximum of two coins per family membership). The coins were randomly distributed and they ranged from 1/4 oz. silver rounds up to a Mexican Dos Pesos gold coin with many great coins in the mix. Many brand new 2016 silver bullion coins from around the World were given out too. In total the prizes given out to members were as follows: 2 - 1/4 oz. Standing Liberty Silver Rounds 3 - 1/2 oz. Walking Liberty Silver Rounds 7 - 2015 Armenia 1/2 oz. Noah’s Ark 3 - 2015 Canada 3/4 oz. Silver Wolves 4 - 2015 Silver Eagles 2 - 2016 Canada Silver Maple Leafs 3 - 2016 Australia Silver Kangaroos 3 - 2016 Australia Silver Kookaburras 3 - 2016 Great Britain Silver Britannias 3 - 2016 Canada 1.25 oz. Recently, the ANA provided our club with a limited number of complimentary memberships to the ANA for us to use as we wish. They are available only to those who are not currently members and who have not been members in the last couple of years. Remember that the ANA World’s Fair of Money will be held in Anaheim in August 2016. With your membership in the ANA, you will be able to register for that show in advance and receive free admission.
