As long time GSSF members know (andnew members, too, if you’ve been keeping

up!), this year marks the 10th Anniversary ofthe GLOCK Sport Shooting Foundation. Andwhat years they have been! We’ve had 50,000+people involved over the years with the program, thousands shooting safely every year.GSSF has grown from a handful of matches peryear, to a recognized shooting “discipline,” withover two dozen matches a year, people fromother countries involved, and competitors of alldescriptions participating.

All of this has made all of us at GLOCK very pleased and grateful for our customers. Tocommemorate this year, GLOCK has manufactured a G17 with a rarely seen “extra”on GLOCK pistols: engraving. That’s right, as the highlighted (artificially enhanced) photographs show, this G17 is specially marked.*

That’s the good news. The little bit of bad newsis that this was a limited production run, with serial numbers beginning with “GSSF.” So, ifyou’re interested in a piece of shooting history, getyour order form in now! There is a special price ofonly $398.00 US.

Thanks again for your loyalty and support.

In Memory of September11, 2001;“Remember, Do Not Forget.”

On September 11th of this year, GLOCK employees around the world were first horrified, then deeply angered over the attacks on the United States. Truly, this day “the world

changed.” As this goes to press, recovery and reconstruction work continue, and the UnitedStates Armed Forces and our allies are seeking and bringing to justice those responsible, andthose who would assist evil.

We would like to note here with sadness, but also pride, that one GSSF member made theultimate sacrifice for his fellow citizens. New York City Police Officer Jerome Dominguezresponded to the World Trade Center with hundreds of other emergency services personnelthe morning of September 11th. He did not return. Your thoughts and prayers are requestedfor him, his fellow responders, the victims themselves and their loved ones.

GLOCK shooters from all over the globerolled into PASA Park in

Barry, Ill., for the USPSA Limited ChampionshipsSeptember 16-19, 2001. Like a family reunion, theGLOCK “tribe” within USPSA/IPSC spent three fulldays sharing notes and shooting their GLOCKS to winpositions all over the leader board.

USPSA/IPSC shooting pits a shooter’s speed andaccuracy against a series of “stages” involving anywhere from three to 36 shots. Shooters must drawfrom a holster and move safely through the course, negotiating obstacles, reloading, and shooting at awide range of paper and steel targets on the way—allunder pressure from the clock. There are no alibi’s forgun malfunctions, and every second counts.

To do well here, you need a reliable, accurate gun.As you might expect, for many shooters, that gun is aGLOCK!

Knock-down steel targets, moving targets, disappearingtargets, and targets as far away as 40 yards tested thecompetitors’ skills. The physical challenges involvednegotiating false-fronted buildings, plywood cars, lawn chairs, haybales, even a bed! All shooting isdone outdoors, rain or shine, putting even greaterdemands on the shooter and their equipment. Thisyear’s match involved 20 stages, consuming morethan 300 rounds.

GLOCK has been a part of practical shooting foryears and is a big supporter of both Limited Divisionand the new Production Division (where only out-of-the-box double-action and safe-action handguns maybe used). Shooters like Armando Valdes and Debbie

Ross regularly finish in the highest ranks of men andwomen in practical shooting events, relying solely ontheir GLOCK pistols. More than half of the shooterscompeting in Production Division used the GLOCK

platform this year, and some 10 percent of the shoot-ers in the main match also chose GLOCK.

GSSF shooter David Sevigny won USPSA’s new“Production Division” outright with his G34. SharonZaffiro from GLOCK,Inc. took high lady in Production, and seventh lady overall in the main match—a grandachievement given the “Production Division’s” strictrequirements. (Zaffiro was competing with a stock G34,10-round magazines, and lower-scoring ammunitionagainst women with custom guns and high-capacitymagazines carrying up to 20 rounds each!)

Debbie Ross used her custom G35 to place sixth inthe main match.

GSSF Benefit/Demo:GSSF had planned to run a demonstration match conjointly with the USPSA nationals as part of a promotional effort. Following the tragedy of Sept. 11,USPSA’s match was nearly canceled. When the decision to proceed was made, GSSF coordinatorsChris Edwards and Scott Gilbertson converted theirdemonstration match into a benefit match for thefamilies of police and firefighters who lost their livesin the World Trade Center. USPSA shooters queuedup to help bereaved New Yorkers, and experiencedGSSF shooting at the same time.

If you own a GLOCK pistol and a holster, you haveeverything you need to try USPSA/IPSC shooting. For moreinformation about USPSA/IPSC go to www.USPSA.org or call (360) 855-2245.

As many of you are aware,a number of champions

have shot their way into thewinners circle in a number ofshooting disciplines usingvarious GLOCK models. Thegreat Armando Valdes beganwith a G17L, claiming aworld championship title, and confounded other com-petitors with a G24 and thena G22. Just a few short yearsago, GLOCKs nearly swept

all the classes at the American Handgunner WorldShootoff Championships. Ms. Debbie Ross has distinguished herself at the World and National levelswith her GLOCKs. And now, seemingly from out ofnowhere, a young man from Connecticut has put himselfin the history books with two National Championship

wins within the space of a few weeks. Mr. David Sevignyhas once again shown the accuracy and reliability ofGLOCK pistols by first capturing the Production Class(and 2nd overall with a stage win) at the 2001USPSA/IPSC Limited National Championships. Davidused a G34 to pull ahead of literally hundreds of competitors, most of whom had expensive, highlycustomized pistols. His G34 was “box stock.” Justtwo weeks later, using the same G34, he secured theIDPA National Championship (Stock Service Pistol)with the low overall time for the entire match.Congratulations, Dave! We wish you many more winswith your GLOCK to go along with your 70+ club winsand your 18 State, Regional and National Titles.

Other champions were also present and wrote theirnames on the championship lists with their GLOCKs.Ms. Sara Dunevin of Arizona is this year’s Ladies

Finally, in the shooting of steel targets, where accuracy is crucial, speed paramount, and an equipmentbobble disastrous, two competitors using GLOCKsplaced 1st and 2nd at the Steel Challenge for 2001. Ourcongratulations to Justin Pettitt and Matt Kartozian.

I ’m sure you all know of theevents in New York City

last week, and it is with deepsorrow that I’m writing this.Jerome Dominguez is a friendof mine, and as a member ofNYPD’s Emergency ServicesUnit, he was among the first torespond to the World TradeCenter attack. There werenumerous people trappedabove the crashes who needed

to be rescued and without hesitation Jerome and othermembers of the service entered the South Tower tobegin the rescue effort. Shortly after this, withAmerica watching, the South Tower collapsed, likelykilling all those inside.

Jerome was a member of GSSF and about 5 weeksprior to the attack he had won First L.E. B class in WestHampton, NY. He was very excited and proud to havewon, and he looked forward to his prize. I am askingthat in the next GLOCK Report or GLOCK Annual you mention Jerome and his sacrifice to let the othermembers know how deeply this has touched us all.Thank you for your consideration.

A Surprised WinnerOn July 22, I attended the GSSF match at Coeur

d’Alene, Idaho. Having little experience withtimed matches, I planned to just shoot my best andlearn from the experience. The GLOCK staff werehelpful and provided some good tips on shooting, aswell as a safety review.

After shooting the match I went to see the armorers. They checked out my G19, informed me it had an 8 lbdisconnect, replaced it with a standard one as well asupgrading the gun with other new parts. The cost forthis service was nothing, thank you very much. TheG19 now shoots better for me but my G22 is still myfavorite and I shoot it best (bench rest groups under 2"at 25 yards are my norm).

Last week I was surprised to receive notice that Ihad won a GLOCK for Class “B” Category. Well, myorder is in the mail and you can bet I will be back next

year. This time to also shoot the major-sub categorywith a new G30. Thank you for a great match as well asan excellent firearm.

An Easy ExcavationA t the beginning of June, I had called my father down

to help me put in a sump pump, as I found that I hada large puddle of water accumulating under my house.

Prior to going under the house to start digging thehole necessary for the sump pump, Dad and I begantalking about the Oregon State GSSF Match that I had just completed the weekend before in Roseburg. My Dad then asked me if I had all the tools ready for our little “excavation,”— I told him I did. I showedhim the hand trowel that I had planned on using, asthere is approximately only two feet of space to digunder the house— absolutely not enough room to usea full size shovel. The dirt under the house is a veryheavy clay and large rock combination, and as I lookedat the hand trowel I knew it was going to be a long, difficult morning.

Then I remembered the trusty GLOCK entrenchingtool that I carry in my pickup for emergencies—it was perfect for this situation! After we finished the digging, I grabbed my camera and took this photo ofDad holding the entrenching tool under the house.“GLOCK Perfection” applies to everything that GLOCKputs its name on, not just pistols. By using GLOCK’sentrenching tool I probably saved several hours and alot of four-letter words.

The Best in 80 YearsIwould like to enter the next Pistol Give-Away, and

also tell you and anyone who is interested, I am now80+ years old. I have shot a lot of different handguns inmy life, from the cheapest to the high dollar weapons, some that are supposed to be the best on the market. Isaw my first GLOCK, a G17, when they first came out.It was in a store I worked in part time—when I saw itin the showcase,I considered it to be a plastic toy. Butcuriosity got the best of me. I took it to the range andtried it, field stripped it, etc. Then I gave it some teststo see if it would really do what the reports said itwould do. It did, and more. I have carried and usedGLOCKs ever since, and continue testing otherweapons. I have found nothing yet that will beat theGLOCK models I now have: a G21,two G22s, a G23 anda G27. I have owned G19, G17, and G30 models andhave never had a problem with one. I try to shoot oncea month even now and with GLOCKs, I am more accu-rate than any of the other makes. I just don’t believethey can beat the GLOCKs. I know they haven’t yet.

My Wife’s Having Allthe Fun!Without going into too much detail, when I lost my

favorite large frame S&W last August, I decided thatI would research the market and find the best handgunavailable—the most durabilility at the best price. However, I knew that my next purchase would have tosuit my wife as well, as she had never fired a handgunbefore. Polymers did not really bother me. Being a gruntin the Marines taught me the value of plastics, aluminumand alloy products to lighten the load.

When I narrowed it down to the two handguns thatwere affordable, the choices were semi-autos, and I knewthat the best defense weapon for my inexperienced wifewould probably still be a durable 38 Special revolver.

After several months of going to the range everyweek, she really started to enjoy herself. I was amazed ather natural ability. From the start she actually shot 12" to 14" groups, which made working with her veryeasy. My wife says “One of the nice parts about shootingis that even when you make mistakes, if you are consistent, someone can always help you get better.”

I got tired of watching her have all the fun anddecided to purchase my first G22, one of my originalchoices. I was amazed at the accuracy, low recoil andease of maintenance. I fell in love with it immediately.Marines do like their weapons, you know!

One day, after shooting about 200 rounds I relin-quished control of the G22 to my wife. After explainingthat the dynamics are a little different in the handling ofthe weapon, she was ready to go. At first it was awk-ward for her, as she has very small hands but once I felt comfortable that she could handle the G22, I slapped a10 rounder in and stood back. I told her to shoot at thetrademark at the bottom of the target because I didn’tfeel like reeling it in and dealing with the pasties.

I couldn’t believe my eyes. She just about cleanedthe trademark off at 25 feet. We immediately went intothe showroom, asked the owner to lay out all the .40S&W that they had and walked out with a G23.

Being stuck with the revolver is OK; good guns willalways be good guns, but we carry and shoot our GLOCKsregularly. We are both impressed with the extremely highquality and dependability of these products.

As a former Marine, I could not be happier with afirearm. As for my wife, well my guess is that she’ll beoutshooting me in no time.

Finders, KeepersW hen I began competitive shooting in the late 80s,

I started with a stainless Colt 1911. With therosewood grips I got a lot of compliments on how goodit looked. It shot well too, with only the occasionalfumble. About a year later a fellow shooter announcedthat he was selling his G22 in order to help finance anew 1911 race gun. After several negative comments, such as “That’s a plastic gun, it will never last,” and“Man, that is one ugly pistol,” the crowd dispersed andI got close enough to check it out. I had heard of them, but never had seen one in person. I didn’t think it was ugly, in fact it had a charm all its own and looked

page FifteenThe GLOCK Report® / Volume III, 2001 © GLOCK, 2001

efficient. I picked it up and it fit my hand perfectly. Theseller, needing the cash, threw in a lot of extras to sealthe deal so I went ahead and bought it. As it turned outI am still very happy today that I did.

The first thing I instantly loved about my G22 was thatthere is no thumb safety to fumble with. Just point andshoot, like a revolver, but with a much better trigger. The second thing I loved about it was the easewith which tight groups could be shot very quickly. It iscommon to have both bullet holes right next to eachother on the targets, sometimes touching! The third thingI loved about it was how easy maintenance is. Breakingthe pistol down is a joy compared to a 1911. Finally, thelast thing I love about my G22 took some time to revealitself. Match after match it never, ever jammed. It goesbang every time I pull the trigger. It gives me a chuckle tosee the shooters of the competition’s pistols jam or misfire. I always recommend a GLOCK to them!

I will never forget when the guy who sold me my firstGLOCK brought his new 1911 race gun to the match. Itwasn’t long before it jammed and the magazine flew outof the gun, hit the ground and ejected all the cartridgesinto the air. Some months later he asked to buy the G22back…ha!…not a chance! GLOCK’s excellence hassilenced any prejudices against it. Now there are lots ofGLOCKs at the matches and I have yet to see one fail. While some may think they are not pretty, if you want agun that runs right out of the box, make it a GLOCK!

Welcome to GLOCKI am a happy G17 owner. My friend introduced me to

his G17 and after shooting his, I knew I had to ownone. He is a master and what he can do with his, I hopeto do someday with mine.

Our first GSSF match was in Jackson, New Jersey. The match was run to perfection. In all my years ofshooting, I have never had so much help from theRange Officers. As you can see from the enclosedphoto, it was raining very hard.

WOWed by GSSFOne word sums up my first experience at a GSSF

match—WOW! I participated in the GSSF match inRoseburg, OR on June 3-4, 2001 and had a great time. This was my first shooting competition of any kind, andI admit that I was a little nervous because I didn’t knowwhat to expect. When I got there, though, I quicklybecame comfortable with everything that was going on,due to the helpfulness of the staff running the match.

I found that the GSSF matches are great places to getstarted in shooting competition. They are well organized, competitive, challenging, fun and most importantly, safe.I was impressed with the level of safety stressed at thematch I attended. For entry level to advanced shooters,GSSF matches are a great experience.

If you are not a GLOCK shooter you owe it to yourselfto get a GLOCK, join the GSSF and shoot in a match. Iam going to keep practicing to improve my scores, butmore importantly, I am going to keep shooting in theGSSF competitions to be around other shooters andGLOCK owners who want to have a safe, fun time andappreciate a high quality pistol.

I can’t wait until the next GSSF match in my area, and I guess the only real complaint I have to lodgeagainst GSSF is that they don’t have matches everyweekend year around in my neck of the woods.

Again, thanks GLOCK and GSSF, for a superior gunand a great sport shooting organization.

Dad Got His GLOCKI recently obtained my concealed carry permit and

joined a pistol club. My oldest son is an explorerscout and in the criminal justice program at his highschool. He and I took the basic class together, andsince he was going to work in law enforcement hesaid, “Dad, get a GLOCK!” After examining firearms ingun stores and reading article after article, I had toagree with him. We now shoot a G17 and my youngestwants to join the club as well—we will need moreGLOCKs in the family.

You folks at GLOCK would be proud of the glow ofenthusiasm on my son’s face when he shoots theG17—thanks for your fine product.

Come Rain or ShineIhave been involved in law enforcement and military

shooting and training for several years. During thattime I have shot with many fine shooters who used avariety of pistols. I have never seen a pistol that I trustlike my GLOCKs.

I’ve shot in the rain with the pistol lying on sandbags during down time. The wet sand made theother shooters hesitant to put down their pistols andthey eventually went home, but I kept shooting andhad no fear of jamming. I’ve been on the line with others as we waited for a malfunctioning name brandto be put back in working order, but my GLOCK neverslowed down the line of shooters.

As a bike patrol officer I went down on the asphalton my gun side, slid about 50 feet and had a bad caseof road rash. My GLOCK had a few nicks that buffedout, and it was good as new long before I was!

I have been privileged to shoot IPSC and IDPA withsome extraordinary shooters. I never felt embarrassedto draw my $500 GLOCK next to their $3000 gun. I wasn’t worried about mine getting dirty and I knew myGLOCK would be back in my waistband on the ridehome, not locked in a case awaiting more “tuning.”

On duty, I’ve dropped my GLOCKs more than once(don’t tell my Sgt.). I just picked it up, dusted it off andkept going. Not worrying about loose sights, scratchesor nicks in $100 wood grips is far more important tome than having the latest “Hollywood” cool gun.

I’ve found that the .40s can shoot better than I can andit is a comfort to know that things are going to go whereI want them, time after time despite rain, sand or asphalt.

I want to thank GLOCK for giving me a weapon thatI stake my life on. Every day. Stay safe.

All I Want for MyBirthday Is…Iam writing this letter to express my feeling about

your product. I am employed with the CaliforniaDepartment of Corrections Fire Department in Coalinga,California. I have been in the Fire Service for over 25years, six of them with CDC. I own a G23. I bought it about four years ago and carry it along with my concealed weapons permit. I enjoy the accuracy I haveachieved with the .40 caliber. I also enjoy the feeling ofsecurity I get knowing that when my family and I taketrips to the coast or mountains, I have the reliability of aGLOCK with me. I recently joined GSSF. I am lookingforward to going to a match in Bakersfield this month. Iplan to enter and hope to win, but I would be satisfiedjust to socialize with others who appreciate the highquality and reliability of your product.

I shoot at a couple of ranges with my wife and a goodfriend. We spend time each month enjoying the greatoutdoors and good company of others who take gunsafety and self-protection seriously. My wife is gettingpretty good. I also enjoy the ease of maintenance ofyour product. After the time spent at the firing line, Iappreciate the simplicity of cleaning and reassembly ofmy GLOCK. Gun safety has always been a #1 priorityand I make my family’s safety and security a #1 priorityalso. I am a little apprehensive about the Bakersfieldmatch, but considering the great fun I have shootingthe G23, I am sure this fine product and my shootingskills will carry me through.

I have been eyeing the new .45 Subcompact in yourmagazine — it has my name on it. I have been droppinghints to my wife like crazy. I have a birthday coming upthis February and it would make a great present. All shehas to do is add a box of shells and a bow. I am a GLOCKdevotee and I look forward to years of enjoyment withyour product. Thank you for the opportunity to shootsuch a fine handgun. I’m looking forward to the .45.

I have been visiting your website—I want to purchasea GLOCK hat and pin and find out more about GSSF.Keep up the good work!

Now I’m Having FunInever thought of competition shooting as fun. I have

watched my husband compete in an IDPA matchand I did not like the fast paced environment. I haveshot a couple of matches for fun at our local shootingrange, but never dreamed of entering a competition!

My husband was attending his first GSSF match in St.

Paul, MN, so I decided to go along and watch. However,on the drive up, he convinced me to shoot the match. Iwas very nervous and unsure of my decision to compete.

I borrowed a friend’s gun to compete, since I do nothave my own and I was off to the first course. I startedshooting the plates and was missing quite a few. I wasnervous and this was a gun I had never shot before. Therange officers, sensing I was nervous started yelling“high” or “low,” letting me know where I was hitting. Ithought this was wonderful and it really helped breakthe silence. I made it through the match and I am anxiously awaiting the next one! It was a great time.

Thanks, GSSF, for changing my mind about competitionshooting! Thanks again to all the range officers andGSSF members for making this a great event for me!

A Great GLOCK TeamI t has been a week since I traveled five hours one way

to compete in the Shelton, WA match, and I am stillreliving all the stages in my mind to see where I couldhave done better. I enjoy the matches and the format somuch that the travel time is only a minor inconvenience.I competed in the local match here in Roseburg, but I justcan’t seem to get enough of the matches, so I travel to theShelton match every year as well. In fact my enthusiasmhas converted two non-GLOCK shooters this year to full-time GLOCK shooters, GLOCK owners, and GLOCKcompetitors!!! My two buddies had never shot a GLOCKuntil they met me, and now because of my enthusiasmand “obsession,” we have formed a team that practicesregularly and promotes the shooting sports.

As a team we have made some pretty ambitiousplans to compete in the Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Piru, California matches next year. Among thethree of us we own eight GLOCKs and compete withall of them. It is because of the GLOCK family that wehave developed our friendships and enjoyed a lifetimesupply of camaraderie. We like to think that we form agroup of conscientious guys who promote safety firstand fun second. With that thought in mind, we are veryimpressed with the professional way in which thematches are conducted and the positive atmospherethat is generated. Your staff members are consummateprofessionals and are always very helpful. We wouldlike to take this opportunity to thank GLOCK and theentire GSSF staff for making the matches safe, fun andenjoyable experiences for the whole family!

I Love ‘Em BothI am the proud owner of a G19 and as a New York

State Court Officer in lower Manhattan, I carry itboth on and off duty. I witnessed firsthand the horrible

events of September 11, so I appreciate the confidencethat the reliability of the G19 gives me.

Unlike many of your other correspondents, I do notwant to knock another handgun brand or model in orderto sing the praises of GLOCK. GLOCK stands on its ownmerits as a great gun without any of that nonsense. As amatter of fact, my love for the Colt 1911, which startedback during my service with the 82nd Airborne, turnedme on to the GLOCK. That’s right—the simple, reliableand robust Colt .45 ACP converted me from dutyrevolvers to the GLOCK. Both weapons adhere to theK.I.S.S. principle of design and operation. The GLOCKhas the advantage of a simpler manual of arms and fewerparts, but both weapons break down easily and requirelittle maintenance compared to other handguns. BeforeI realized this, I did not want to convert from my 38Special revolver to the G19 for duty carry. I handled theGLOCK, stripped it down, talked to those who carried itand I was sold. It is a great gun and the perfect envelopefor the cartridge it fires. I’ll stake my life on it!

In closing, I’d like to say that I love my GLOCK anddo believe that if John Browning were alive today, heand Gaston Glock would be getting along just fine!

Disappointed JuniorBack in June, I took my 16 year old grandson, who has

been shooting handguns for over four years, to theGSSF match in Fulton, NY. He was not allowed to competein the match due to a new law which prohibits anyoneunder eighteen years of age (unless they have a valid NYSpistol permit) from handling or shooting any handgun.

About two weeks ago I took him with me to theGLOCK match in Harvard, MA. He was allowed tocompete there, under the strict supervision of therange officers. Safety is always uppermost at all of theGLOCK matches. We just looked at the results on theGSSF web site. There were 119 competitors in theamateur class that he competed in. He finished in 55thplace—taking High Junior honors, beating 64 othershooters. He was ecstatic, and is looking forward togoing to Topton, PA, and other states to compete in theGSSF matches with me.

Not to be outdone, I finished in eighth place, taking HighSenior honors—my best finish so far in the many GLOCKmatches I have competed in. Many thanks to GSSF forpromoting the shooting sports for all competitors.
