Grenada Football Association has set April 18th for the start of its first ever National Youth League.

The tournament which will see the best players from various communities representing their constituencies in the U-15 age ground competition will run for the next twelve weeks.

The aim of the tournament is to identify and select the best talent to continue training and also represent Grenada at the second biannual Concacaf U-15 tournament, which will be staged in the Cayman Islands in August.

Chairman of the Youth Committee and President of the association, Cheney Joseph believes the tournament will serve the GFA’s long term vision of producing better players for future national teams.

“We want to identify these kids much earlier and secure the proper training for them to play at a much higher level” Joseph stated.

GFA’S NATIONAL YOUTH LEAGUE a feeding ground for future success“We want to identify these kids much earlier and secure the proper training for them to play at a much higher level”

“If we are to really compete internationally, we must identify talent early and nurture them, hence the reason why we are now focusing on under thirteen and under fifteen boys and girls” said the President.

The National Youth League is an idea of the Executive Committee of the Grenada Football Association and is aimed at identifying talent at an earlier stage.

The aim of the League is to promote

football development in Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique and to nurture our local talent. That is the view of Technical Director, Lester Smith.

Twelve teams will participate in the inaugural tournament. The teams participating are St. Patrick East, St. Patrick West, St. Andrew North and West combined, St. Andrew East and South combined, St. John, St. Mark, St. David, St. George Northwest, St. George Northeast, St. George South and the Town of St. George.

The Grenada Football Association is proud to introduce Super 8, an elite tournament for the island’s best footballing teams.

SUPER 8An Elite Tournament for the Best

Come 2015, players and fans will witness a new tournament organized by the Grenada Football Association.

Judging from its name, “SUPER 8”, only eight of the best teams will get a chance at the big money prizes offered to the winners.

Marketing and Communications Director, Malaika Church, says the tournament was born out of an idea to increase competition for players, increase revenue opportunities and to showcase the nation’s talents.

“We have heard the cry for more football, better football and a grand finale and hence the reason why the Association has decided to introduce this competition” said Church.

The teams qualifying for the SUPER 8 will be the top five finishers in the Premier

League, the top two teams in the First Division and the Champion of the Second Division.

Chairman of the Competitions Committee, Patrick Francis says the competition should bring out the best in our players. He believes players will work hard at ensuring the product is of a high standard.

“This is our Champions League and teams in each division will have a chance to make the Super 8” says Francis.

Francis believes teams will now understand that only a few spots are allowed to each division and hence from the start he anticipate teams will be seeking to remain in contention to be among the best eight in local football.

The SUPER 8 will commence at the end of each division and end on December 26th annually.

“We have heard the cry for more football, better football and a grand finale and hence the reason why the Association has decided to introduce this competition”

Recently appointed Women’s Referee and Referee Assistant, Arsha Wellington and Tia Mc Intosh, respectively, participated in the third annual CONCACAF International Referees Symposium presented by Comex Futline held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The symposium included various classroom sessions with international guest speakers, field sessions, fitness activities as well as a fun match between referees and Comex and CONCACAF Officials.

Over fifty Referee Officials attended the Symposium this year from the 19th -22nd March.
