The Golden Duck (scenariusz)
Storyteller – Martyna & Dorota
A long time ago a young shoemaker called Lutek lived in Warsaw. Despite the hard work in the cobbler’s workshop he was very poor. In the evenings, he often sat in the pub and he listened to the stories of older citizens.
In the pub
Lutek’s friend - Amelka
Have you already got the money for shoes that you did for Princess?
Lutek - Eliza
Yes, I have. Unfortunately less than I expected.
Lutek’s friend
It’s a shame… Let us drink, brother, because I hasten /heisn/ to come to my house.
They drink. A friend gets up and leaves. Lutek is left alone. He is listening to the conversations of other guests /gests/.
Master John (Mistrz Jan) – Kasia Z.
He says in a whisper
Apparently, you can meet the Golden Duck on the Tamka, in the basement of the Ostrogski Castle.
Master Bartholomew (Mistrz Bartłomiej) – Dominika
I’ve heard that it is a beautiful bird, but also cunning and dangerous.
Master John
With amazement in his voice
Why dangerous? How can a duck be dangerous?
Master Bartholomew
You may get lost in the basement while you’re looking for a Duck and never come back to the surface.
Master John
And if someone meets the Duck?
Master Bartholomew
Then the Duck will make him rich ever after. Ever after – już na zawsze
Storyteller
After hearing the legend of the Golden Duck and riches which it protects, the boy decided to go on quest for the Duck. He headed /hedid/ for the castle. The shoemaker located the castle door leading to the basement, where he wandered for a while.
Lutek
Halo?!
Storyteller
He shouted, and when he did that, he heard a Duck. He went towards the sound. He came to the place where the floor was full of jewellery, coins, books, and where the Golden Duck was floating on water.
The Golden Duck - Klaudia
Welcome! You’ve found me, so you deserve a reward. Take this purse. There is one hundred of golden coins inside. You need to spend it in one day. Remember! You can’t share the money with anyone!
Voice behind the wall: Warsaw was waking up to life. The stores were opening slowly and people
were heading to do some shopping.
Lutek: I’m finally rich! He’s coming to the candy shop. Lutek: Mm, yummy! I want to buy something delicious. The boy’s bying some sweets and he’s walking to the sewer. Tailor: What would you like to buy? Lutek: I’d like to buy the most expensive outfit I can get. The tailor is carrying an outfit which is emblazoned with precious stones and gold. Tailor: I think that this outfit will be alright. Lutek: Perfect. Tailor: We have leather boots with golden spurs too. Would you like to try them on? Lutek: Absolutely! The tailor ’s bringing boots. Lutek’s trying them on. Tailor: They cost 20 ducats. Lutek’s giving the money and he’s walking away.
IN THE INN Lutek’s sitting. The host’s coming . Host: What would you like to order? Lutek: I’ll takethe most expensive meal and the best mead to drink, please.
The host’s bringing the food. After the meal Lutek’s paying for it. Narrator: In the afternoon, the boy bought the best horse, he ordered a golden ring with the biggest diamond in the jeweler’s, and in the midnight he went to the theatre, where he sat at the prince’s box. The evening came and there was only half of the amount in Lutek’s purse. The stores were closing slowly when he heard a voice. Bum: Dear lord, please help the old bum. The war took everything I’d had. Lutek looked around and he noticed a man. He was dressed in dirty clothes, which had been a beautiful uniform a long time ago. Lutek: I don’t know what to do with the rest of my money, so take it. You need it more than I do. Golden Duck: You haven’t fulfilled my conditions. You’ll be a poor shoemaker for the rest of your life. Lutek: All right. Money isn’t the key to happiness, if you can’t share it with others. I couldn’t live like that, because I wouldn’t be really happy. Narrator: The Ostrogoski Castle still stands on the Warsaw Tamka. On the other hand, nobody has heard about the Golden Duck again and the only thing which reminds of her is the statue.
