Summer may be over, but fall is here! Many consider the fall season to be the best time to ride a motorcycle. Many Chapter O members started off the fall season with a trip to Maggie Valley, NC. I was not able to join them, but I was told that it was one of best trips they have had. I’m looking forward to hearing all about the trip at the gathering. I was glad to hear that everyone made it home safely.
To start our fall riding season, October is full of great events you will not want to miss. The first week is a dinner ride in Evansville, a ride to Loogootee, IN, and a ride to Tell City, IN. October 10th is the Fall Festival Parade. We will be staged on West Franklin St. between Fulton and 7th Ave-nue. This year the parade begins early. We will need to be in place at 3:30, and the parade starts at 4:30. This is great fun! So decorate your bike in red, white, and blue and join us. This is a good opportunity for us to promote the chapter to the public. The more bikes we have show up, the better this will be. On October 11th, Dennis and Debbie Juncker are hosting the chapter for our annual clay pigeon shoot. It starts at noon, and please come hungry because lunch will be served first. Bring your shot guns, shells, and clay pigeons. Don’t worry if you do not have a shot gun. There will enough for all of us to share. This is a great time, and I look forward to it every year. Thank you Dennis and Debbie for hosting us. Following the shot gun shoot is our monthly gather-ing at Archie & Clyde's. Our gatherings have become so much fun. I enjoy all the participation from our members. Try not to miss it! On October 17- 18, Charles and Kathy Friedman are lead-ing us on our Ride to Ride Ride. This is an overnight trip to Tennessee that should not be missed. It’s not too late to make arrangements to join us. We are staying at the Econo Lodge in Dickson, TN. We will meet for breakfast at Shoney’s in Henderson, Ky at 8:00 am on Saturday, October 17. We will depart fueled and ready to go at 9:00. Thank you Charles and Kathy for planning this ride. On October 24, I have scheduled a ride to Pine Room Tavern in Nashville, Indiana to view all the fall colors. On October 25, a ride to the Pennyrile Forest State Resort Lodge is scheduled. The state park should provide a scenic ride.
This month there is something for everyone. I hope you all have an opportunity to attend some or all of the events. I guarantee you will have a great time.
I hope to see you all on October 11th at our next gathering.

To All Members and Members to be,
Wow!! How time flies when you are having fun. I believe we all have been out riding our motor-
cycles and enjoying what time we can when we have the time. Many of us have participated in Chapter
O’s ride schedule and some of us have gotten together with fellow riders and enjoyed rides close and
far. Many of us travel by ourselves when others are not available and still find many people on their
adventure who enjoy riding as well as we do.
On the trips that you and your co-rider are riding by yourself I hope you are informing and keep-
ing in contact with those that are important to you just in case something comes up which might delay
your arrival somewhere. It is very important to let someone know of your travel plans and if you
change a destination be sure to let the parties involved what is going on to keep a piece of mind on
those who care so much about you.
This time of year we like to plan trips to see the fall colors of the trees and meadows that surround
us. If traveling in large groups plan your stops so everyone can enjoy the scenery and get those photos
of your group to remind you and them of what a special time that everyone can enjoy for years to
come. Many of us look back at what trips we took and times spent together with those special people in
our lives so we can reminisce.
Things we do not like to remember are unplanned downtime with unexpected breakdowns. Saying
this, I would just like to bring up that a good maintenance schedule and complete check of your motor-
cycle or trike can relieve the stress caused by an unexpected problem. Not all breakdowns are caused
by lack of maintenance, but being the machine that they are it is a machine and they will break down.
As all of us know certain bikes have certain problems that come up and this can most of the time not be
predicted. Alternators on the 1500 and sometimes 1800 can quit without a symptom that it is going
bad. Drive shafts on trikes have been known to give issues along with batteries and tires.
Knowing this a good insurance plan is to have some type of rescue or towing plan and to keep that
number with you at all times. You may never need it but if you do it can relieve the stress and worry
that comes with a mechanical problem while on vacation or just a day ride. Every one of us knows how
our steed is performing and realizes when something is wrong. If you are traveling in a group and ex-
perience a problem get on the radio and let someone know of your situation so whatever needs to get
done can be done safely for everyone involved. As a group we look out for each
other and that is what makes a “Chapter O” click.
Ride safe so we can meet again, Vernon Hunt (Rider Educator)

Discussed last months’ rides
Chapter Team Reports
Vernon discussed that preparation is the key to success. Have your Gold Book in your bike at all times incase
of emergencies. Remember you have a tow package but most tow trucks do not carry double ended loops and will
need your assistance with securing your bike.
Don showed off the old chapter flags most old timers use during parades. He came up with some new ideas
for improvements to the flags. Don found someone up at Wing Ding who can make the flags for the Chapter at a rea-
sonable price.
Mike S. discussed the trip to Maggie Valley. He would like to honor Linda Stonestreets’ memory by placing
some of her ashes in Johnathon Creek behind the motel.
Dan discussed that the Medication Forms and T-clock forms are on the website and can be printed out.
Chapter Shirt order forms will be on the Websiite Soon
Cathy described some of the changes coming to the newsletter in the next few months.

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is
an annual campaign to increase the awareness of the
disease. While most of us are aware of breast cancer,
many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect
the disease in its early stages and encourage others to
do the same.
Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant cancer
cells form in the tissues of the breast.
Women in the US get breast cancer more than any
other type except for skin cancer. An estimated over
220,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer
and more than 40, 000 will die. An estimated 2, 150
men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approxi-
mately 410 will die each year.
One of the earliest signs of breast cancer can be an ab-
normality that shows up on a mammogram before it
can be felt. The most common sign of breast cancer is a
lump in the breast, or a change in the shape or color.
Remember: Early detection can save lives!!
An Early Breast Cancer Detection
Plan should include:
Beginning at age 20: Perform
breast self-exams and looking for
any signs of change.
Age 20-39: Schedule clinical breast
exam every three years.
By the age of 40: Have a baseline
mammogram and annual clinical
breast exams.
Ages 40-49: Have a mammogram
every one or two years depending
on previous findings
Ages 50 and older: Having a
mammogram every year
