FROM THE VICAR’S DESK

T his year’s Holy Week and Easter will take place this month of April. Thousands of

Christian churches are preparing to offer services and worship in their own worship

tradition to Christians and non-Christians around the world, and Holy Faith has

joined the effort to commemorate these Holy and joyful occasions.

Holy Week and Easter are yearly special church events with the purpose to remember and

commemorate Jesus’ death and resurrection as well as to increase our faith in God through

Christ. During this season, however, many people look for churches in their neighbor-

hood to join the festivity with their families. Thus, the question; what can we do to invite

potential newcomers to celebrate with us these Holy events in the life of the Christian

Church?

Some experts suggest to advertise in the local paper, social media, radio and television.

Others suggest to place door hangers on homes, mail invitations to people in the neighbor-

hood, post information on church website, and much more. All these suggestions work

very well when a congregation has financial means to invest in advertisements, nonetheless,

the two methods of invitation I found effective in reaching out to newcomers and potential

members that needs little or no financial investment are: first, by personal invitation; in

other words, each member personally and intentionally invites friends and neighbors to

worship at Holy Faith; and second, having attractive and fun events for children of all ages.

These two, if done properly, can bring dozens of visitors and potential members to Holy

Faith on Holy Week and Easter. The challenge is keeping the enthusiasm going all year

long.

Advertisement could be very costly and the outcome could either be successful or unsuc-

cessful. However, each member inviting a friend or neighbors to church is a cost-effective

method. This is the same method Jesus and his disciples put into practice in the early

church to grow congregations.

The following are ways members can extend invitation to friends and neighbors;

Pray for the person or neighbors you are planning to invite.

Invite, invite, invite.

Plan to pick them up at their house that morning if they don’t have transportation.

Invite them to lunch or dinner after the service or during the week and ask them to

share their experience.

In conclusion, one important group we must never forget as we extend invitations to attend

Holy Week and Easter this month, are the children; they bring parents and friends. If we

prepare the church to welcome the children and keep creating ways to retain them, we

might see a substantial increase of attendance in our worship. Therefore, go and extend

invitations to friends, neighbors and children to celebrate Christ with us this Holy Week

and Easter and help us prepare the church to welcome future members!

Las siguientes son formas en que los miembros pueden extender invitación a amigos y vecinos;

Round and Round It Goes!

'Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart....'

2 Corinthians 9:7 NIV

The Bible says: ‘…Whoever sows … generously will also reap gener-

ously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart

to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful

giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things,

at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good

work.’ (2 Corinthians 9:6–8 NIV) When you give what God tells you

to, He’ll give you back more. When you know that, it’ll revolution-

ize your approach to giving. Paul isn’t talking about people who’re

trying to get rich; he’s talking about ‘cheerful givers’ who want to

finance God’s purposes. He’s saying not only is it safe to give, it’s

the way to greater blessing. That’s especially good news for reluc-

tant givers, because when you give something away it can feel like

a loss. But contributing to God’s work isn’t giving something away;

it’s investing—with a guaranteed return. A farmer who sows

doesn’t lose his seed, he gains a harvest. Can you imagine a

farmer praying this prayer? ‘God, give me a crop. I’m trusting You

to get involved, but I’m holding on to my seed just in case.’ Is that

what you’re doing? If so, here’s some good news. When you sow

generously, God gets involved in your finances. Can you imagine a

more secure position to be in? The Bible says, ‘The generous will

prosper…’ (Proverbs 11:25 NLT) When you give, it enables God to

return to you even more, which in turn enables you to give even

more—and round and round it goes!

Easter Lilies

Now that the season of Lent has begun, penitential in-

trospection is the norm. That introspection will lead

to a renewed commitment to our Lord. That in turn

will lead to great rejoicing at the arrival of Easter Day

when we commemorate the victory won for us by

Christ’s rising from the dead. One way we can express

our joy is by donating towards purchasing the lilies that

will decorate the sanctuary at Easter. Donations may

be made in thanksgiving for blessings received, or in

memory of loved ones who have gone before. Enve-

lopes are available in the narthex. I would like to

appeal to everyone to be especially generous this year.

Unfortunately, with the escalating cost of living that we

all know so well, the price for lilies has increased dra-

matically this year as compared with previous years .

We are counting on your generous giving and for that

generosity we say , “Thank you in advance.”

Paula Smith for

HOLY FAITH MEMORIAL GARDEN AND COLUMBARIUM The renewal of an ancient custom, it has been said, “Don’t be buried from the

church be buried in the church”, or in our case in Holy Faith’s Memorial Garden.

Years ago most churches had church cemeteries, however now that cremation is

acceptable we have the Columbarium for the internment of ashes.

Holy Faith Memorial Garden Columbarium was established in 1980, with 128 nich-

es. Each niche will contain your ashes, or that your loved ones. The Columbarium

is constructed of concrete, similar to that of a vault, and is encased in marble and

bronze for complete permanency.

There are nameplates for each niche, on which the name, date of birth, date of death, and any symbol can be

inscribed.

Our Memorial Garden and Columbarium is located in a secluded spot adjacent to Shenandoah Hall, enclosed by

a solar block wall and trees creating a place for meditation and there are benches where one can sit in peace, to

be near their love one

Visit our Memorial Garden at your convenience and experience its tranquil atmosphere, truly an asset to our

church grounds.

There are niches available for purchase. A single niche cost $600, and a double cost $1000. The price includes

container or urn, inscription on the bronze enclosure; internment and perpetual care, there are no additional

costs. This facility is available to the community, not just the members and friends of Holy Faith.

Payment arrangements can be made.
