As we prepare our hearts and homes to give thanks to

God later this month, I want to thank all those who have gave me

Pastor Appreciation cards in October. I am thankful for you and for

the opportunity God has given me to serve as your pastor over these

past 14 months. Your words each week encourage me.

Most encouraging of all is your eagerness to receive the Word—

whether preached or taught. You welcome the opportunity to examine

the Scriptures and it has been a pleasure to share my sermons and

Bible studies.

Each monthly newsletter provides a list of upcoming sermon

Scripture passages in the weekly bulletins and monthly newsletters. By

giving you this information ahead of time, I encourage thoughtful

engagement with the Scripture passage prior to hearing the sermon. In

this way, I hope people will better grasp the Word that speaks with

authority and grace to all who will hear it.

Last Sunday I began a four message sermon series on Malachi. On

November 8, I will be preaching on Malachi 1:6-2:9. On Thanksgiving

week (Nov. 22), we will examine Malachi 2:10-17. On the first Sunday

in Advent (Nov. 29), we will conclude the series by looking at Malachi 3-4.

Finally, there have been several questions about our Inductive Bible

Study of the Revelation. Yesterday we had 29 people present for the

study and we’ll resume the study on Nov. 11 by looking at Christ’s

message to the church at Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17). Look for

more information on the dates of future studies in the December

newsletter. The remaining sessions on the seven churches will be:

“Thyatira: the challenge of consistency” (Revelation 2:18-29); “Sardis:

the emptiness of reputation” (Revelation 3:1-6); “Philadelphia: the pain

of exclusion” (Revelation 3:7-13); and “Laodicea: the danger of

self-reliance” (Revelation 3:14-22). Bring your Bible and see you here!

Greetings from the Children's Department! Thanksgiving is upon us

already! What a wonderful time to celebrate with family and friends and to

be thankful for all that God has done for us. For the Children’s Mission

project, please remember to let me or Linda Hamilton know if you are

interested in helping with filling the Thanksgiving Food boxes and/or the delivery of

the food boxes on Saturday, November 21st. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall at

9:00 AM. What a great way to show Gods love to those in our community. Come be

a part of it.

Let us praise God for His glorious grace, for the free gift He gave us in His dear

Son! EPHESIANS 1:6. In His name, Shawn McLain

Greetings, Fishersville Baptist Family!

Youth and Family,

We completed a Bible Study, Not A Fan, by Kyle Idleman.

We had a “back-to-school” bash, the youth went bowling and then went to

the Carters’ home for pizza and a movie.

Looking Forward: We are going to begin doing outreach to our homebound

and elderly church family. We look forward to doing visitation and service

projects. We will be reporting back to the congregation on our visits and

helping everyone to get to know our homebound members.

Blessings, Heather Carter, Youth Leader

Music News By H. Keith Harris, Minister of Music

Remember to be Thankful

Thanksgiving is coming, which reminds me of the many things that encourage me; and for them, I give thanks. One

encouragement that comes to mind is people who give their hearts to the Lord. Last year I was able to baptize

seven in our fellowship in only six months! They helped me recall a special time in my life, and remember my own

baptism. As we come upon Thanksgiving once again, I am ever more aware that we must remember to be thankful.

In this fallen world we tend to forget the GOOD and remember the BAD. . .

So we must remind ourselves what to remember.

In this verse from 2 Timothy, notice how many times it says “remember.”

2 Timothy 1:3-6, Thanksgiving

3 “ I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember

you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of

your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded,

now lives in you also. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through

the laying on of my hands.”

We need to remember the faithful who have gone on before us; we need to remember to pray for those we love and

even pray for our enemies. We need to remember to pass the torch of our faith to the next generation and we need

to remember to develop the gifts that God has given us. Most of all, as verse 3 reminds us, we need to remember

to say “Thank You” to God. Especially at this time of year . . . we must remember to be thankful!

A Thanksgiving Prayer...

Dear Lord, remind us of Your goodness, even in this fallen world. Lord, help us put the negatives of the past be-

hind us. We are thankful, O Lord, for all the good You have sent our way: for family and friends, for gifts to serve

You and for the gift of life. Thank you for Your salvation, a hope so dear and bright.

In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

To the Soldiers of America Standing right beside us

We forget that you are there When trouble comes to find us

We turn to you with prayer.

Without a hesitation You step into the fight, Standing right before us

To protect us day and night.

You leave your home and family Knowing where you’re bound,

With courage, strength and valor You stand a piece of ground.

Security, peace and freedom Are the gifts that you supply

The Soldiers of America On you we can rely

THANK YOU!!!

Greetings from The Neighborhood Church in Syracuse!

1012 Oak Street

In one of my last emails I introduced you to our new friend Toufan. After

getting to know him a little better, I feel that I must share his very interesting

story. Toufan has been in America for just a few months. He is a refugee from

Iran. He grew up in a Muslim home. Many years before, his grandmother and mother were

led to Christ by missionaries, but because of fearing for their safety, they kept their

conversion quiet. Iran is one of the places in the world where it is “against the law” to

openly profess or share Jesus in public. Toufan has told me of two Pastors in Iran that are

in prison now for sharing Jesus.

Toufan’s testimony of his own salvation is one of the most amazingly wonderful events I

have ever heard. As a teenager, he and four other family members were walking through the

city in Iran when a man… wait for it… wait for it… on roller skates… wait for it… dressed in a

Santa Claus suit skated up to them and tossed a handful of New Testaments to them and

skated on without saying a word. Toufan, his sisters and cousins scooped up the New

Testaments and went off together to read them. THAT NIGHT, all five of them gave their

lives to Christ and were baptized shortly after at the same time!

Toufan later met missionaries from North Carolina and Canada that “spiritually adopted”

him and allowed him to join them in their work. He was the perfect translator to help them

share Jesus. Now living here in Syracuse, his dream is to one day become a missionary

himself and go back to where his people are and share the same hope that he has received.

He is going to be helping us at The Neighborhood Church to reach out to other Muslims,

while at the same time, we will be helping him to prepare for returning to what he believes is

his true mission field in Iran.
