Hi I’m Brandon

I am Dustin

Page 3: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

We chose to study goats because we have goats.

We have goats

because Mum wanted the best milk and nutrition she could get

for us.

Goats Milk is SO good for you... It is the closest milk you can get to human’s milk. That is why before

there was formula mothers gave their babies goat’s milk if they could not feed them their own milk.

It is also easier to digest than other dairy. Most people that can not tolerate cow dairy can tolerate goat’s milk because it doesn’t have the alpha S1 casein protein. In fact this is one of the things that makes it great for the medical world.

Goats milk is a complete protein and contains every essential amino acid.

Doctors recommend it for cancer patients, HIV patients , stomach ulcers, and skin elements.

It prevents iron deficiency and bone demineralisation

Page 5: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

It has the highest amount of calcium at 326mg a cup.

It is full of Vitamin A. In fact 134% more than cow’s milk. Vitamin A is good for your eyes, the internal muscles, and cell reproduction. It is a major cancer fighter. Which is why cancer patients are encouraged to drink goats milk.

It is a good source of all the B vitamins

It also has 134% more potassium and 350% more niacin than cow’s milk.

It is higher in chloride, copper and manganese and the essential nutrient selenium than its counter parts.

It also makes a good pet milk.Top dog breeders feed it to their dogs.

UMMM! This is Good!

Page 11: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

All of this goodness comes from goats milk. But you can’t get it from just any goat. So we had to choose which kind

of goats to get.

Page 12: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

There are many different breeds of goats used for many different things!

Page 13: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

Some are used for their fleece.

These goats are used for their meat.

And there are dairy goats that are used for their milk.

British alpine Toggenberg

Saanen

Page 16: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

We chose Saanen

We chose Saanen because they are friendly and they give more milk than any of the other goats.

Page 17: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

Now we have the goats, but that is not all it takes to

get that good Milk.

Page 18: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

A doe has to have kids before they can give milk.

We let the kids have all the milk for two weeks. Then we separate the kids from their mother at night so that we

can milk them in the morning.

Page 19: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes
Page 20: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

There is a lot of work involved. And a lot of studying and research to do.

Page 21: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

Being a member of the Dairy goat Society of Australia is a great resource.

• You can learn from experienced farmers.

• You get a year book with lots of information.

• You get magazines that have very helpful articles.

• You make friends that can help you along your way.

Page 22: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

They Need lots of clean water.

Page 23: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

You must keep their housing clean, because it will cause disease if

kept dirty

Page 24: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

Tattooing a goat is important

because it shows the ownership of

the goat.

Page 25: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

It is also important to clip their hooves

because they never stop growing.

Not taking care of the goat’s feet could

result in a disease called foot rot.

Page 26: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

It is always good to have help on the farm.

Having a good shepherd makes rounding the goats

up a lot easier.

Page 27: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

To get good milk

production you must feed your

goat properly.

Page 28: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

We feed our goats crushed oats, Lucerne, black

sunflower seed, horse mix, dolomite, seaweed and molasses. However,

there are several different ways to feed them but

you must remember that they can’t eat just

anything.

Page 29: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

Goats get most of their food from the paddock, but if the

paddock is not in good condition then they will need

feed and hay.

Page 30: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

In the paddock you have to watch for poisonous plants.

Blue Heliotrope

Capeweed

laurel

azalea wisteria

Yew tree

Page 31: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

It is important to keep the goats off of the paddock when it is wet, because of parasites

and bloating of the goat.

Page 32: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

When the grass is wet parasites move to the top of the grass. Goats like to eat the

tops of the grass.Wet grass+ parasites =sick goats

Page 33: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

When they get these awful parasites you must drench them . When you drench a goat you need to know how much they weigh to give the right amount of drencher

that goat needs for it’s body size.

Page 34: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

Having a horse in the paddock with goats is good

because parasites that harm goats do not harm

horses. Instead the parasite dies if eaten by the horse. Thus making the paddock

healthier for the goats.

Page 35: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

After heavy rain periods the grass is very rich. It isover rich with minerals that other wise would be goodfor a goat. Too much of this rich grass will cause a goatto scour (diarrhoea). When goats scour it is dangerousand could even cause death.

Page 36: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

There are also other reasons goats scour.

• Diseases; Enterotoxemia, salmonellosis, and Johnes Disease.

• Feed scouring: This is when a goat eats too much grain.

It is very important to watch for scouring because it shows that there is a problem. The first thing best to do is to take the goat to the vet if you can.

Page 37: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

•Restrict concentrated feeds•It is also important to give fluids because they will lose their fluid and get dehydrated. •Be consistent with your treatment. • Keep a log of what you do for a reference to come back to later.

In the case that you can not get the assistants of a vet, here are some things to do.

Page 38: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

This goat has what is called bottled jaw. When a goat has a bottled jaw it is a sign of sickness.

• It could be an allergic reaction

• It could be parasites

• It could also be from a vitamin deficiency.

Normal JawBottled Jaw

Page 39: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

When the left side ofthe goat is big and the right is normal size this means the goat is bloated. Bloat is were there is trap wind inside the goat that can not come out . If it is not taking care of the goat may die.

Page 40: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

Another disease you have to watch out for in dairy goats is Mastitis.

Mastitis is an infection in the udder. It has many causes.

•Dirt getting in udder.a) By famers not using

sanitary methods such as cleaning the udder before milking.

b) Goats having too big of holes in their teats can allow dirt to get in.

•Goat being low in minerals•Parasite infection•Eating poisonous plants

Page 41: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

Taking care of a dairy goat farm is a lot of

work. But it is a lot of fun as well. Plus you get the added benefit

of the Goodness of Goat’s Milk.

I think it’s time for

some fresh goat’s milk!

Page 42: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

That sounds good to me . Mum I'm hungry!

Can I have some of that fantastic milk!!!

Page 43: The goodness of goats milk dustin and brandon gaddes

Wow! Mum. All that hard work

paid off.

Yea, This is good stuff.
