TRANSCRIPT
The governors at Wicklewood School are the people who
work quietly behind the scenes supporting and challenging
the school. They are ultimately responsible for the running
of the school, although the major part of that is delegated
to the head teacher on a day to day basis.
The governing body acts as a critical friend to the school,
offering opinions, evaluating progress, and being part of all
major decision-making.
The governors also have individual responsibilities for
curriculum areas such as Maths, Literacy, Health and
Safety, Special educational needs etc, and all sit on the
various sub-committees:
Finance
Curriculum
Premises
Staffing
The clerk to the governors is responsible for setting the
meetings, all the associated paper-work and any legal
requirements.
Clerk to the Governors: Kirsten Mower
I have lived in
Wicklewood for nearly 11 years, and have two children at
Wicklewood School: Elizabeth in Reception, and William in Year
3.I have a degree from UEA in English and History, and worked
for the Norfolk Library Service for 15 years, mainly in Norwich
Central Library. As you might expect from that, my favourite
pastime is reading (!), but I also love to bake, and have recently
fulfilled a long-held ambition by starting piano lessons. I am
Treasurer of the Friends of Wicklewood School, and I come
into school twice a week to help the children from Wren and
Greenfinch classes with their reading.
Andrew Thurston: Partnership Governor.
I have been a governor at Wicklewood since 1991, and was
a parent governor at Wymondham High School from
1987/91.
I was chair of
governors from
1992 to 98, when
Wicklewood
School went
Grant
Maintained. This
also coincided
with the building
of the first four
“new class rooms”.
I have been Chair of the Finance Sub Committee since
1998, and am a member of the Premises sub Committee
and also one the ‘Maths Governors’.
My two children attended Morley Primary School, as I was
the farm manager at Morley Research Centre for twenty
six years, retiring in 2008 to live in Barnham Broom.
Chair of Governors
Paul Sully 45, is
married to Marion and
is dad to Owen year 7
and Emily year 5. He
was a Parent Governor
at Wicklewood Primary
School for a total of
six years, starting when
Owen joined Reception
class, before transferring to the role of community governor,
and has had the post of Chair for the last two years.
He started his working life in the RAF and after getting
married in 1992 he was initially based in Norfolk. After many
moves around the UK he ended his 9 year RAF career as a Flight
Lieutenant - Station Adjutant at RAF Aldergrove in Northern
Ireland.
Work was responsible for Paul and his family moving back to
Norfolk and after a brief period working for Rehau windows and
conservatories in an HR role, Paul is now employed as a Human
Resources Advisor for Norfolk Constabulary, based in
Wymondham.
During his spare time Paul enjoys spending time with his family
at weekends and school holidays in their caravan, walking the
dog, cycling and would like to get back to paragliding now the
children are getting more independent.
Lucy Jeffery is deputy chair of the governors and is a
parent governor - mum to Hamish and Poppy. Lucy also
works really hard for the Friends of which she is currently
joint chair. In her spare time she is a teaching assistant at
another local school!
John Spratling, is a parent governor, and is dad to Joshua
in Year 2 and Hannah in Year 4. He is also a member of the
Friends, and does a great deal for the school in the way of
helping with fund-raising, repairs, and providing a loud
voice at events such as the summer BBQ etc!
Vicki Myhill is a parent governor (Freya in Year 3, William
in Year 1 and Christopher in pre-school). She has been a
governor for 2 years and is also very well known for her
work with the Friends of Wicklewood. She lives in the
village and is a farmer’s wife. In her spare time (when she
gets any!) she enjoys peace, quiet and a good book, or time
on the coast with the family!

I am a
parent governor
with 2 children
at Wicklewood school; Maxwell, currently in Lapwing class,
and Tilly, currently in Robin class. When I left University I
worked in London at one of the large accountancy firms
where I qualified as a chartered accountant and
specialised in fraud investigations and risk management. I
currently look after the finance side of a software
company (Redrose Software) which I run with my husband,
Kevin. I am also a very keen musician and regularly
perform in a brass band, both on the concert stage and
also at various national competitions.

My three children spent happy years at Wicklewood
School where I have been a Parent Governor for seven
years. I am now a Partnership Governor and sit on the
Curriculum and Staffing Commitees. My subject interests
are Maths and Music.
I work as a GP ( Dr Pereira) at Wymondham Medical
Partnership in Postmill Close. Outside work, the children
and an old house plus smallholding take up most of my time.
I spend any free time out of doors on a never-ending list
of projects.

My family and
I moved to
Wicklewood
in summer
2011 having
spent the last
ten years
living and
working in
Oxford. I am
a
conservation
ecologist and we moved here to allow me to take up a
Lectureship in Sustainable Agriculture in the School of
Biological Sciences at UEA. My research is based
predominately in the UK and Europe but I do my best to
maintain links to conservation projects around the world to
ensure at least one research trip to an exotic locations is
in my diary each year! I have three daughters, two of
which are currently at the school (Wren and Swift class),
and am acting as a parent governor.

I completed a German and Marketing degree with French

Norwich. I was originally an MFL teacher teaching German
and French. My first school was in Hertfordshire and
then I taught at Flegg High School and Caister High
School where I was Head of MFL and then Head of
Citizenship. I currently work at Wymondham High
Academy as Head of PSHE/Citizenship teaching students

I am married with two children - Alice who is 6 and Charlie
who is 4. They both go to Acle Primary School (Year 1 and

my spare time I
love reading and

a caravan which
we use most
weekends when
the weather gets
nicer.

I am originally from Lancashire but moved to Norfolk in
1989 to take up a teaching post at a high school in
Norwich. I greatly enjoy life in Norfolk and moved to
Wicklewood in 1999. My wife and I were married at the
village Church and our 14 year old son attended
Wicklewood school from 2004 - 2009. I'm looking forward
to making a contribution to our village school.
Simon Underhill
I grew up in
Birmingham, son of
cobbler, loving school
and thriving off the
many opportunities to
develop my passion
for music and playing
the clarinet. I
attended the Royal
College of Music
Junior Department
every Saturday aged
16 – 18. I studied for
my undergraduate
degree in Music at the University of Birmingham, after which I went
to the Royal College of Music for two years to study for my Mus.M.
Determined to be a professional clarinet player, I was successful in
getting one of twelve British Fulbright Scholarships, enabling me to
attend the Manhattan School of Music to study under one of the
great clarinet virtuosos, Charles Neidich. Subsequently, I worked
with many orchestras including The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic
and the BBC Philharmonic. My passion for teaching and working
with young people gradually took over, leading me into my career as
a Primary School teacherI now live in Hingham with my wife and
two amazing children, thriving on the experience that Wicklewood
Primary School provides. It's a wonderful place to be, with an
almighty bold, capital T in team being at the heart of how the school
continues to grow and strive for excellence.
